[libreoffice-documentation] How to give subtitles to a video using kdenlive in ubuntu ? - YouTube

2020-12-07 Thread Paul Sutton

Hi All

I installed kedenlive earlier so have now also found a video showing how
to add captions / subtitles to a video, so am going to have a go with a
video from the source files I have here for Libreoffice.

Hopefully I can add some captions to the videos too.

Should be fine for most of them, the one where I am adding numbers
together in a table may be more tricky, as the bar is at the bottom of
the screen.

I need to add a solid background to the caption so any wording stands
out properly but I will try and figure that one out.

Paul

[libreoffice-documentation] Getting started + working on the wiki?

2020-12-07 Thread Katie Knish
Hi everyone,

I'm still working on getting started. Does anyone have advice on where an
editor should start? Potentially anything that needs to be rewritten? I'd
eventually like to write, but since I was an editor for 8+ years, I thought
editing/reviewing would be a better place for me to start.

I think I'm most interested in helping with the Wiki. Can someone tell me
where to start?

Thanks so much, and I apologize if these are questions with obvious answers.

Katie

Why not create them in .srt text format with some subtitling software
instead? You can upload .srts to YouTube:

An example of a FOSS subtitle editor: https://subtitlecomposer.kde.org/

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Thoughts on Rafael Lima's suggestions in updated Preface of Writer Guide

2020-12-07 Thread Rafael Lima
Hello everyone!

Thank you Jean for your feedback. I believe you're right bringing this
discussion to the mailing list because it might affect other guides as
well. I'd like to make some additional remarks:

1) I checked out the AOO forum and there are some recent questions made by
users, but it's nowhere near the amount of questions we receive in Ask
LibreOffice. I believe that the link to OpenOffice forums should be removed
because many features work differently now (menus, dialogs, etc) and this
might confuse users instead of helping them. An alternative to removing the
link is to add a Caution note explaining that there might be differences
between OO and LO.

2) The "Check for Updates" feature is not available in my installation of
LibreOffice. I'm using LO 7.0.3.1 on Ubuntu 20.10 (the PPA version). AFIK
the PPA maintainers disable some features in their build of LO, which might
explain the lack of the "Check for Updates" feature. Maybe we could add a
Note explaining that the "Check for Updates" may not be available in
packages provided by third-parties.

Regards,
Rafael
