Oups, that's true.
Colibre on Windows and macOS, Breeze on KDE/QT, and Elementary on Gnome/Gtk.
Fallback is Tango.

The very outdated Chapter 2 "Producing LibreOffice User Guides" of the
 Documentation Contributors Guide reads:

The setting for one View option (Icon size and style) is important for
consistency when capturing screens to illustrate our documents.
Go to Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View and make sure the choices for
Icon size and style in the User Interface section near the top are set
 to Small, Tango.
If you are using Ubuntu or another Linux distribution and the icon style
drop-down list does not show Tango as one of the choices, go into the
distribution’s package manager and install the libreoffice-style-tango
 package.

I don't believe there has been any discussion on this subject in recent
times, but for my contributions I have used the default install icon
set, which in the case of LO 6.2.x & 6.3.x on Windows 10 is Colibre.

Although it is not my personal preference, I feel that we should use the
default icon set, since this is what most new users will see and more
experienced users are likely to understand LO has various icon sets.

Tango is a nice and neutral theme but be aware that some icons for new

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Icon Set for Guides

2019-08-10 Thread kees538

Hi Olivier

Thanks for the information.
In my opinion however it is very useful to use icons and toolbars in the
guides.

Because pictures are more clear than text.
And without them the guides would be less interesting to read.
Besides, icons are in the screenshots too.
But I think it would be good to be consistent in using icon sets.

Kind regards,
Kees

Hi Kees

We discussed that in one of our doc meetings (5/29/2019), and opted to
avoid using icons and tolbars in the Guides for this reason. For
command

descriptions, better refer to the menus.

The issue on icons and toolbars are real:

- We have several icon sets
- The default icon set depends on the operating system
- Toolbars can change the user interface dramatically, e.g Notebook
bars

variants
- Toolbars can be customized

--8<---
+ References to toolbars icons shold be de-emphasized
+ icon theme issues
+ hard to insert icon in text
+ breaks paragraph layout smoothness
+ depends on toobar customization
+ Mention toolbar with no icon specific
+ mention context menu
+ Context menu is a set of commands available to the selected
 object
--8<---

I think it is valid to *rewrite* the parts that refers to toolbars and
icons.
