Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Image anchoring problem
Hi Drew, Thank you, I finally got it working under Linux by adding a couple of extra steps in the image properties: * Uncheck keep ratio. * Reset to original size Best Regards Dave On 30.05.2019 04:50, Drew Jensen wrote: > Oops - I had to go play around and add that sound file! rendered one image > with half the screen capture gone and uploaded that, so that link is no > good. > The full 3 minutes of riveting video is here instead > https://youtu.be/xzq7VI0hrYQ > > On Wed, May 29, 2019 at 11:36 PM Drew Jensen > wrote: > >> Howdy Dave, >> >> OK Yeah, it is a bit of a pain now isn't it. >> >> Did a screen capture.. here it is https://youtu.be/1HrKJSrn7bU >> >> Somebody should see if the first problem, start of the video, is already >> in the issue tracker ;-) >> >> Drew >> >> On Wed, May 29, 2019 at 8:33 AM Dave Barton wrote: >> >>> Yes, creating the frame and inserting an image into it is a partial >>> workaround, but it is not they way OOo and earlier versions of LO >>> worked, even if anchoring was not always great. >>> >>> Inserting the image into the frame is fine, but the auto-generated frame >>> around the inserted caption still cannot be resized. >>> >>> I have tried just about every possible alternative to do what is the >>> easiest thing in the world to do with AOO. >>> >>> Tested with 6.2.4.2 and 6.3alpha under Windows 7, 8.1 & 10 both 32 & 64 >>> bit. 6.2.4.2 64bit on Linux kernel 5.2 & 4.20 Haven't had time to test >>> on macOS, but wouldn't expect any different result. >>> >>> Dave >>> >>> >>> On 29.05.2019 12:38, Dan Lewis wrote: I have the same results as Drew. Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Image anchoring problem
Yes, creating the frame and inserting an image into it is a partial workaround, but it is not they way OOo and earlier versions of LO worked, even if anchoring was not always great. Inserting the image into the frame is fine, but the auto-generated frame around the inserted caption still cannot be resized. I have tried just about every possible alternative to do what is the easiest thing in the world to do with AOO. Tested with 6.2.4.2 and 6.3alpha under Windows 7, 8.1 & 10 both 32 & 64 bit. 6.2.4.2 64bit on Linux kernel 5.2 & 4.20 Haven't had time to test on macOS, but wouldn't expect any different result. Thanks Drew, Yes, that was the bug and linked blog from where I picked up that " TDF put up a tender to improve the situation with image handling". Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Image anchoring problem
Yes, I have seen most of Bruce's articles, including this one. I was under the impression that TDF recently paid a developer to improve the software's image handling. Now the really disappointing part, I just opened the chapter document I am reviewing in AOO 4.1.6 Writer and the image handling/anchoring frame resizing works perfectly and images do not disappear. You find the meta issue for known issues related to that work here: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116280 Then of course there are still some issues open on the meta issue 47148 referenced above. That said I am able to resize a frame without resizing an image in the frame, but that is not the default behavior. To do so first I need to select the image, open the context menu 'properties' and on the first tab of the property dialog under 'size' ensure that 'autosize' and 'relative to' are not selected. Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Image anchoring problem
Neither. I believe Writer's handling of images is astonishingly buggy, and has been for many years. I draw your attention to https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47148 and also http://www.linux-magazine.com/Online/Blogs/Off-the-Beat-Bruce-Byfield-s-Blog/The-mysteries-of-positioning-pictures-in-LibreOffice-OpenOffice luke On 28/5/19 11:23 pm, Dave Barton wrote: I have just run into an issue I don't recall having encountered previously. Another odd-ball situation I found is that changing the anchoring of the image causes it to disappear and the input jumps to the end of the document. Has something changed in Writer's image handling in recent releases, or am I doing something wrong. [libreoffice-documentation] Image anchoring problem
I have just run into an issue I don't recall having encountered previously. After inserting a small PNG image and adding a caption, I want to increase the width of frame without resizing the image. I have tried several different combinations of anchoring the image and frame, but nothing prevents the image being resized in the same ratio as the frame. Another odd-ball situation I found is that changing the anchoring of the image causes it to disappear and the input jumps to the end of the document. Has something changed in Writer's image handling in recent releases, or am I doing something wrong.
