Re: [Dorset] 2010-10-06 The Broadway, Bournemouth.
Very comprehensive summary of the evening and loads of interesting links, excellent to follow up on the conversations we had (I was about to google Vala tonight but you've cut out the search for me, especially as I wasn't too sure how it was spelt ;-) ). I agree re: the pub - snug area was nice and location was practical to both drivers and public transport users, but karaoke was too loud so we'd be better off meeting on another night of the week. I think that the problem wasn't so much with the speakers in the snug area but that we actually could hear directly from the speakers in the karaoke area. At least, this is how it sounded to me. I could actually see the karaoke if I looked towards the bar, so there was a direct way for the music to get through, from the karaoke, over the bar, to us. Thanks for the IRC plug, I hadn't realised it was active. I have to admit I haven't used IRC in years, this will bring me back to the 90s lol -- Next meeting: Crown Hotel, Blandford Forum, Tuesday 2010-11-02 20:00 Meets, Mailing list, IRC, LinkedIn, ... http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ How to Report Bugs Effectively: http://goo.gl/4Xue

And quoth Ralph: There is a column of controls behind the bar, one of which is labelled Snug, so it may be they can control the volume of their normal music on non-karaoke nights. The intention is to move Bournemouth meets from a Wednesday. Action: Victor to do further research at the pub, IATJBSGTDI, to find out if they've a Sh! Domino players are thinking night of the week. Also, could you find out if that is a control to mute the snug's speaker? Indeed. I was fortunate to be rather more shielded but still struggled against the overflow of sound from the main pub area. However, if there is a quieter evening then the pub is likely to put muzak of some sort over the room speakers so having the power to have those down too would be good. ( Sadly, I don't expect the pub music player would respond to a TV_Be-Gone, be interesting to give it a go if anyone has one ;-) -- Next meeting: Crown Hotel, Blandford Forum, Tuesday 2010-11-02 20:00 Meets, Mailing list, IRC, LinkedIn, ... http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ How to Report Bugs Effectively: http://goo.gl/4Xue At the end of the day, having looked back through the emails for Terry's 3 key needs, reasonably close parking, a decent Wi-Fi connection and reasonable seating.
