I booted from a Kubuntu 10.10 live disk and it gave me the option to install - as a new partition- on the big main disk. Also Dolphin showed all the partitions/disks and I could see all(?) the contents. I have used a utility that I found called 'Rescatux' to rebuild grub, which it did, but kubuntu 11. went into reboot cycle. So I chose an older version from the grub menu, the failsafe option, and again rebuilt grub. From this I can choose the option to 'load normally' and i end up at the command line. Cannot get gui on 10.10 yet though, and if I can get that running I will try and upgrade again. Peter Can anyone tell me how I can upgrade the system from a CD, using command line instructions? Hi Peter, Can anyone tell me how I can upgrade the system from a CD, using command line instructions? You can do it from an alternative CD. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NattyUpgrades#Upgrading%20Using%20the%20Alternate%20CD/DVD Although if you upgrade is underway but didn't complete then you may something like the normal sudo apt-get dist-upgrade picks up from where it got to, assuming the machine has network access. Cheers, Ralph. -- Next meeting: Blandford Forum, Wednesday 2011-05-04 20:00 Meets, Mailing list, IRC, LinkedIn, ... http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ How to Report Bugs Effectively: http://goo.gl/4Xue
