Re: [Dorset] Gnome root terminal/GDM3/XDMCP

2012-10-14 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Hi Tim,

I'm running out of ideas and wonder if you should open a Debian bug on
GDM3 since that seems to be where the discrepency crept in.

When XDMCP'd, with gksu(1) not working, do you find your two environment
variables match, as mine do?

$ env | g 6Iyfy5
GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL=/tmp/keyring-6Iyfy5
SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/keyring-6Iyfy5/ssh
$

Cheers, Ralph.

[Dorset] Apache gone awol

2012-10-14 Thread Tim
I have Apache installed on my PC (along with MySQL and PHP), this was
simply to play with and get to learn how thing work, I have in the past
loaded to web pages onto Apache and accessed them from various PC on my
network in the past without a problem. I simply accessed then via
http://127.0.0.1/mywebpage. Yesterday I installed phpmyadmin (intending
to play with mysql) and when I tried to access it I was unable to.
Further test showed that I can't even access the Apache default index page.

When I try I just get page inaccessible, I have checked the
/var/log/Apache for error etc. but there are no,listed errors, I have
tried reinstalling Apache but this made no change.

As I am new to this I don't know what to check next, any suggestions

My distro is Debian Mint XFCE (debian testing)

Tim

have you checked that Apache is actually up and running?

ps -eafw | grep apache

The apache 'error' log should show a line from when the server was started,
similar to

[Sun Oct 14 08:09:15 2012] [notice] Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu)
PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.18 with Suhosin-Patch configured -- resuming normal
operations

(obviously yours won't say Ubuntu)

Re: [Dorset] Apache gone awol

2012-10-14 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Hi Tim,

 Just as an update, I just tried accessing my web server from another
 pc on my network (don't know why I never tried it before) and I got
 the standard test page (I used the url
 http://192.168.0.55/index.html). So the problem seems to be local to
 my PC

What if you try http://192.168.0.55/index.html from your local PC?

Cheers, Ralph.
