The original poster has come back and said:

'The problem seems to be caused by an update to ghostscript. My ghostscript
9.26 was
updated today. I tried another Linux system with an older version of
ghostscript 9.26, and
it worked nicely. I then updated ghostscript on that system, and then I got a
blue
background.
How do I force the system back to the older (working) version of ghostscript?'
I too would like to know how to roll it back and add the rider; what will it
break if I roll back
ghostscript without rolling back the other stuff.

That must have been posted after I did my search today.

Well not a lot that meant anything to me. I tried typing:
   apt-cache policy $packagename

exactly as you provided it, but it didn't really show anything useful:

apt-cache policy $packagename

I then tried:
  apt-cache policy $hplip

and got exactly the same.

However, Synaptic informed me that HPLIP is provided by 3.18.7+dfsg1-2ubuntu2),
but the
changelog says it has not been changed since October.

I see that dfsg appears in the apt log, but that is dfsg-3, not dfsg1. I'm not
sure how
relevant that is.

I've posted the content of the apt log to the Ask Ubuntu site above in answer
to the
original question.

I await results

Not familiar with that one. What about /var/log/apt?

What's the package that provides HPLIP? What does `apt-cache policy
$packagename' show?

Cheers, Ralph.

Don't know if there's anyone else on the LUG in the same boat, looking

utility using the API but web development isn't my bag.

[Dorset] Linux bridging software for MTDfV

Hi
