 It is appalling.

The visuals are expanded and detailed so as to give a clearer set of options

take up to ten seconds to respond.
Bearing in mind that this netbook came with optional Vista Business as
standard, and you see that UNR must have some seroius issues.
Summary- very attractive, but practically unusable.

I've put the excellent 9.10 desktop back on.

What hardware are you running it on Simon?

My son runs it on his Acer One and it's fine. It won't be taking on any
super computers any time soon, but it's certainly usable.

I've been using the XFCE edition of Mint on my netbook for the last
month or so. I can't rate it highly enough.

Funny thing is, it works fine with the Desktop version; maybe it is

I may be wrong here, but isn't UNR optimised for Intel Atom CPUs?

It might explain your experience if that is the case!

I had the same problem on my HP 2133 so I think it is the laptop not
UNR. I also run Ubuntu desktop without any problems.

Here you go:

Actually, the issue is with the graphics drivers and not CPU ptimisation.

Ah, well, that would be a financial matter then. The HP2140 is Atom-based

I'll just have to soldier on with desktop, and hope that they fix the
microphone bug.

The Via chips are pretty poor performers, if you are getting it to do
large amounts of graphics work without offloading things onto a GPU then
its not massively surprising it being slow.

Do you know if its got a dedicated GPU? if it does I would advise
installing the drivers (even the binary ones if you have too) and giving
it another shot.
