I've enabled dovecots debug-log after the problems happened, so there
are no corresponding lmtp logs.

 To test LMTP try this:

telnet to your LMTP port, or for an Unix socket:

 socat - UNIX:/var/run/dovecot/lmtp

 Then speak LMTP:

 LHLO loc mail
 from:bounce-mc.us5_9954939.11045-jg+introversion=larptreff...@mail33.wdc03.rsgsv.net

  rcpt to:jg+introvers...@larptreff.de quit

and without the +detail in rcpt to. If you get to enter the QUIT
without losing you connection, your postfix log entry does not
makes sense to me. 2xx responses are successful, 4xx temporary
error, 5xx errors. You should not see no other resonse codes.

Okay, the log entries make no sense at all it seems. With socat it
works like charm.

See the Dovecot log and probably monitor the system for an abort
or segfault of a Dovecot LMTP process.

As far as I see there are no segfaults. Postfix and dovecot are
logging to syslog -- mail.log, and there is only the given output.

Thankfully I've configured a cronjob for a daily pflogsumm-report, but
I don't understand this. It worked for months like a charm.

It seems this only happens on mails with +-Delimiter.

In my opinion there is only one thing which could cause this problem:

I will try to downgrade again, did someone have a clue? Changelog from
2.2.7 didn't show changes on lmtp.

[Dovecot] [OT] xi.rename-it.nl dovecot-2.2 stable-auto

Hi there,

I check my mail-server for debian package-upgrades with Nagios, so
everyday I got a mail for 8 new dovecot-packages on this server. I
think that wasn't so in 2.1 stable-auto, but I'm not sure about that.
Maybe someone who uses the 2.1 stable-auto repo could response to this?
But 2.2 released only few days ago, maybe the repo-admin hadn't time to
change this, or my memory about this is wrong.

[Dovecot] Dovecot 2.2 LEMONADE extensions

2013-03-26 Thread Jan Phillip Greimann

Hi there,

I read an article about dovecot 2.2, which includes the LEMONADE
extensions, and was fascinated about the feature Forward without
download. We have a small internet-uplink in our office and our CEO
loves to receive mails with large attachments, he also reply/forward it,
so every time the full attachments get downloaded and uploaded again.
Now the question is: Is LEMONADE supported by desktop-mailclients like
thunderbird or just mobile Clients? (Google said nothing to this, maybe
searched the wrong words)

I hope someone can help me with this.

[Dovecot] zlib plugin bug?

Hi there,
got a problem with the zlib plugin, just wanted to test it on a

I've send an email to a blank maildir++ mailbox, the file is saved as
gzip compressed file, but the Z flag is missing in the filename.

Is that a bug in the plugin, or in dovecot?

Wellas you see, your mail-client tries to speak PLAIN, so it
shouldn't work.

I didn't know ADs well, but...can't you simply add the Field? In LDAP it
should be possible, if you use MS AD, i dunno.

I could use some unused field to

get what I want. Let's say set Attribute1 to group1. The problem is
how to get that info. I guess I have to edit dovecot-ldap.conf and put
in user_attrs something like that ,=acl_groups=Attribute1. Any
 suggestions?

Currently I have dovecot working with Active Directory authentication and public folders

for me to use one group instead of 50 users but I can't get it to work. From where does
dovecot get the group attribute for a user? Can it read the groups that a
user belongs from AD?

Here a sentence to this, found in the dovecot wiki.

ACL groups support works by returning a comma-separated acl_groups extra
field from userdb, which contains all the groups the user belongs to.

It seems to be possible, I had an acl_groups field in my MySQL Database
for this, I'am sure it is something like that in an AD too.

STOP TALKING AND TAKE MY MONEYelf

Am 31.03.2012 23:28, schrieb Timo Sirainen:

For the last few days I've been thinking about my company and what it really
should do, and as much as the current plan seems reasonable, I think in good
conscience I really can't help but to bring up an alternative plan:

The support for Dovecot is quite good already, but wouldn't it be better if it
was GUARANTEED that your email server was ALWAYS working with zero downtime or
other problems? After some thinking, planning and consulting with my spiritual
guides I realized I really should just go ahead and do it:

From now on you can buy blessed Dovecot stones
(http://www.dovecot.org/tmp/stone1.jpg), which are guaranteed to keep your
email server running. I don't think there's really any further reason for me
to provide commercial support. Probably the whole Dovecot mailing list will be
pretty much useless after this as well, so I might as well stop posting there.
If you have any problems, you'll just buy a Dovecot stone and the problem will
go away. If for any reason that doesn't work, it means that your problem is
more difficult than most and you need to buy a few more stones. Please
remember that each shipment may take up to 3 weeks to reach you, so get your
stones early and in sufficient quantities.

A small email server will be happy enough with a single small Dovecot stone,
but the more users you have the more stones you'll likely need. This is
because most people are rather unhappy with their lives, and they project their
negative energies towards their surroundings, including their email servers.
To overcome this negative energy you need to have a counterbalancing positive
energy, which the Dovecot stones will provide you.

The Dovecot stones are hand painted from the finest materials available to the
sister of the author of Dovecot that she could find in the local shops. Each
stone contains such love and dedication towards the well being of Dovecot that
you will shed tears when you lay your eyes upon their physical being. The
images provided here unfortunately don't do justice to them.

http://www.dovecot.org/tmp/stone2.jpg - This is how i keep my home desktop
running all day every day. I have NEVER broken a single hard drive in my life.
I don't even bother to keep backups, because I KNOW it is useless for me.

A small Dovecot stone can be bought for 10 euros, a medium sized stone for 100
euros and a large stone for 500 euros. Each large stone can usually handle
around 1000-2000 users before you need to buy more. If you have millions of
users we'll need to find you a larger rock from my parents' backyard. There
are only a limited number of such rocks available (we disposed of most of them
to our neighbors' yards years ago), so their prices need to be negotiated in
advance.

[Dovecot] Question about Dovecot-ACLs

2011-06-09 Thread Jan Phillip Greimann

Hi there,

i try to create an php-script to control acl's for public folders
without file-manipulation.

For this i use imap_setacl() like this example:
  imap_setacl($mbox,INBOX/test, em...@domain.tld, lrwstipekxa);

The acl-file looks so:
  ~: cat dovecot-acl
  user=em...@domain.tld akxeilprwts

But i have a problem with the follow function:
  imap_setacl($mbox,INBOX/test, em...@domain.tld, );

This command only delete the rights from the email, not the whole entry
in my dovecot-acl file.

Now my acl-file looks like this:
  ~: cat dovecot-acl
  user=em...@domain.tld

Did this affect dovecot by any way?

Thanks,
Jan

Yeah, i can do that, or change the user homedir, but i need some time to
change scripts.

But, is normal to dovecot show a file as a mailbox? And have any kind of
option to hide this one?
If your Home-Dir is the maildir? Yes, .filename could also be an
MBOX-Mailfolder, so please put your maildir in a subdirectory, not in
the home-root.

Re: [Dovecot] Managing public folder ACL files

2011-04-06 Thread Jan Phillip Greimann

Hi Keith,

i have the same Problem as you, but in a much smaller variant.

Our user_db is in MySQL, so i define acl_groups in user_db and make many
group-settings for all situations per public folder.

But that could be hard for 1000 folders, so the user must have 1000
group memberships. Okay, some groups could be combined.

I think a global public-folder management would be nice, in example via
ldap or mysql (or in a file). Dovecot reads this and create mail-folders
and acl files for the configuration.
