Hi Timo,
many thanks, I could restore all emails.

Oliver

When you delete a folder with Thunderbird it usually renames it under
Trash (e.g. box - Trash.box), so you should still be able to rescue it.
If Trash was already compacted, then Thunderbird issued a DELETE command
which causes Dovecot to unlink() and rmdir() everything.

[Dovecot] Restoring a deleted/moved imap folder

2007-08-25 Thread Oliver Schulze L.

Hi,
one user of my imap server just deleted a whole folder, blame thunderbird

I have the server disk and running Stellar Info for deleted files recovery.

My cuestion is about how dovecot deleted an imap Maildir folder?
The imap client is configured to move the deleted mails to the Trash
folder, so I think dovecot would delete every Maildir email after
successfully

moved it.

In the case a folder is deleted, is something special dovecot does to the
email? Or it just run the unlink() function?

In the case of compacting a folder, I think thats just a client side action.

Many thanks
Oliver

[Dovecot] Thunderbird body search and multiple imap process

2007-07-25 Thread Oliver Schulze L.

Hi,
I'm having an issue with dovecot and Thunderbird and it is reproducible
all the time.

You do many body search from TB and you end up with multiple imap processess
consuming all the CPU and with linux load 20+

Setup:
- Centos 4.5
- Thunderbird 2.0.0.5
- Dovecot 1.0-7_53.rc29 and 1.0.1-1_58.el4

How to reproduce:
- have an imap account in Thunderbird with 12000+ emails
- user maildir in dovecot
- do a: ps auwx|grep user1|grep imap|wc -l
- in the main window of TB, in the sarch box select Entire Message
- search one random word and wait 30 seconds
- search another random word and wait 30 seconds
- search another random word and wait 30 seconds
- search another random word and wait 30 seconds
- do another: ps auwx|grep user1|grep imap|wc -l
- watch that the user1 have now more imap process
- watch the linux load, it just rocketed from 1 to 20
- killall -9 imap
- watch the linux load return to 1

I'm thinking its TB fault, anyone has seen this issue too?

Thanks
Oliver

With v1.0 there's not much you can do about it.

Hi Gabriel,
thanks for the suggestion. Will be researching about perdition, google
should help.

My idea is to open only IMAPS port to the internet, and then limit only
a few users the check their email from home.

Thanks

What sort of response would the imap server give? Obviously you
allow all sessions to connect else you would handle this with
iptables, and when the user/pass/cert is validated and you have the
user:rip what response would you give the client? Any security issues
are moot since the user/pass is over the wire in order to determine if
they have access.

Re: [Dovecot] Is there a connect acl ?

2007-06-04 Thread Oliver Schulze L.

I got the response from Timo,
in the shell script i can use the variable $IP which holds the remote IP
(rip from syslog)

so, doing a grep with the $IP and the subnet will do the trick.

Will update the wiki when its done.

Thanks

you can run dovecot twice (one instance for the LAN and one of the
internet), each with its list of users/passwords...

[Dovecot] Is there a connect acl ?

2007-06-02 Thread Oliver Schulze L.

Hi,
I have been reading the acl documentation and it seems that a connect acl
is not available.

I need to limit the users that can login in an IP number, is that
posible with

dovecot 1.0? (i.e. only these users can login from the Internet)
Or a new plugin should be written? It is complicated to do that?

Thanks

Re: [Dovecot] Released 1.0.rc31

2007-04-09 Thread Oliver Schulze L.

A feature request is not a bug, so it won't stop the 1.0 release.
I think all new feature request are being implemented in the 1.1 devel
version, so

if your feature is implemented, it will be implemented in 1.0.1 or 1.1

It would be quite convenient to have support for multiple SSL server
certificates, based on remote IP address. When a single IMAP server
supports both LAN clients and WAN clients, at times either or both the
domain names or server names may vary - and then a single server
certificate results in some clients receiving SSL warnings.

It is possible to allow for this using split-horizon DNS - but I'm
lazy. I don't really need split-horizon for anything else.

Also, it seems that dovecot detect and build vpopmail even if you don't use
the --with-vpopmail

Re: [Dovecot] Replacing qmail + vpopmail with: sendmail + dovecot.

2007-03-22 Thread Oliver Schulze L.

Hi David,
thanks for your email.

It would be nice if you have a working dovecot.m4 for sendmail that
is different from the one in the wiki. Could you please post your .m4 file?

Also, do you use the dovecot deliver LDA ? Have your chmod u+s it?

Thanks
Oliver

David Robillard wrote:

Hi,
I wonder if it posible to replace qmail + vpopmail with sendmail +
dovecot?

The idea is like this:
- use sendmail + milter API to filter spam/virus and deliver the
email to

 the dovevot MDA (LDA)
- dovecot should save the email to the directory as specified in the
vpopmail DB
- maintain the vpopmail BD (users + passwd)
- use dovecot pop3/imap for the clients
- use sendmail again to receive the email from the pop3/imap users and
deliver the email to the internet as usual.

Anyone has done this? It is posible in the paper, in the real world?

Hi Oliver,

We run sendmail + dovecot on FreeBSD for around 3500 users. It runs
smooth. We also run two other FreeBSD machines with Sophos PureMessage
for Anti-SPAM and Anti-Virus cleanup which is linked via sendmail's
milter.

You're going to need Procmail to link sendmail and dovecot for local
mail delivery to the user's mbox or Maildir, which ever you prefer.
We're using Maildir here to serve both IMAP over SSL and POP3 over
SSL.

If you need any help in the setup of sendmail + procmail + dovecot,
just tell me.

Of course, if you're more experienced with Postfix, then use it. IMHO
it's not as flexible as sendmail. But YMMV.

Have fun,

David

[Dovecot] How does vpopmail support works?

2007-03-21 Thread Oliver Schulze L.

Hi,
I'm still trying to migrate a running qmail + vpopmail to sendmail +
dovecot.

I need the milter stuff from sendmail.

I got sendmail + dovecot running using the migrated tables from the vpopmail
DB, but I'm facing the UID problem in pop3.

So, now I'm following the vpopmail authdb path.

My questions are:
- what do I need, a running vpopmail server (lib + binary, etc)?
- or only the DB?

This is on Centos 4.4

Many thanks
Oliver
