  Dear Quick Search,

I had been using DQSD for some months
quite happily with no problems. But recently I upgraded from Windows ME to XP,
since when I cannot re-install Dave's Quick Search Deskbar. The previous thin
grey toolbar at the bottom of my screen is now a thick blue one (you know?)
and it won't accept the new toolbar. And I really miss it!

Every time I try to install it, I get the
  following error message:
  'DQSDTools.Keyboardhook - can't install
  hook'.

What does this mean? And what can I do
get my deskbar back? Please help.

  Yours truly,
  Hugh
Terry.

[DQSD-Users] Win-S and multiple monitors

2003-03-10 Thread Kim Gräsman
Hi,

I'm running DQSD both at work and at home.

At work, I have the following setup:
- Win2000 SP3
- IE6
- 3 monitors

At home:
- WinXP SP1
- IE6
- 1 monitor

For some reason, at the work machine, when I press Win-S, the search bar
seems to "loop", i.e. the cursor is blinking wildly, and whenever I type
something, I can only get one character in there, then it selects the
char so the next thing I type overwrites the last one. I'm not sure how
clear that is :)

To make things even stranger, whatever I click with my mouse, after the
looping has begun, is copied into the bar (so if I would click this mail
in Outlook, it would copy in "Kim Gräsman Win-S and multiple monitors må
2003-03-10 18:15") and searched for.

I can't really put my finger on where the problem is, but I'd be happy
to hear about similar experiences.

I'll see if I can narrow it down a bit later, i.e. disable all but the
primary monitor, keep the bar on there and try to find a pattern.

Thanks!

RE: [DQSD-Users] Help

2003-03-10 Thread Kim Gräsman
Clarification:

> I had to get rid of it to get some things to work...

I've never run it with DQSD, so I don't know if there's a clash.
When I said "some things" I meant some non-DQSD things.

Richard,

Have you recently installed Norton Antivirus? They do some funky stuff
to prevent scripts from running, so that could get in the way.

I had to get rid of it to get some things to work...

Best regards,
Kim

Dear Users:

For the past couple of months I no longer can get my DQSD to install. I
keep getting error messages:
1. Internet Explorer Scrip Error
Line: 229
Char: 7
Error: Permission denied
Code: 0
URL: file://C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar\search.htm

2. Internet Explorer Script Error
Line: 768
Char: 3
Error: 'gowidth" is undefined
Code: O
URL: file://C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar\search.htm

Each asks do I wish to continue running scripts on this page? I've
uninstalled, redownloaded more times that I can remember. The program
had been doing just fine. I've no idea what I changed to cause this to
happen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated in that, because of my work, I
make a lot of use of DQSD.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm no expert at DQSD quite yet (only used it about a week), but
in the docs it makes note that several settings are persisted
through installations. It's possible that one of these is being
persisted and is causing your installation of the files that are
'bad' to be ignored/bypassed - thus causing the predicament
you're in.

Try renaming the directory "C:\Program Files\Quick Search
Deskbar" to "*...backup" or something similar and reinstall. If
you have any settings that you've changed after that point,
migrate them over one by one, (!) reload, and test them, after
each change to see in which change the failure occurs.
