RE: [DQSD-Users] ANN: DQSD 3.1.8 goes final!
Monty, It seems you're right, it already does all of this, except the localsearches. I'll see if I can fix that today... Re: [DQSD-Users] ANN: DQSD 3.1.8 goes final!
The installer might already have this behavior, but I dont know offhand... Its been a while since any of this was discussed on the group.. IMO the installer should: Not over-write any local* file if one already exists.. I think the bundle comes with a couple of empty local* files localsearch.css and localprefs.js ? Create the localsearches directory if it doesnt exist. The uninstaller should: Not delete any local* files at all.. Not delete the mrmenu.txt and history.txt files.. Again, I think this is largely the behavior anyway... RE: [DQSD-Users] ANN: DQSD 3.1.8 goes final!
Hi Monty, > Does the uninstaller remove the local* files and directory? > I think these are left untouched along with the menu history and the command history > files... Yeah, it does - I thought the same, but I just now accidentally uninstalled DQSD, and lost my local*. I've been thinking that should be fixed, but I wasn't sure if it was by design. > Shouldn't the installer create the localsearches directory if > it doesnt exist? Yes, it might as well, so people don't have to figure out the name of the dir. > What about asking for an install path? Is the C:\Program Files... > directory hardcoded somewhere? ; The default installation directory InstallDir "$PROGRAMFILES\Quick Search Deskbar" This translates into the default Program Files directory of your Windows installation, which is usually C:\Program Files, but C:\Program on a Swedish Windows installation. I definitely think users should be offered a chance to pick install location, but again, I thought it was by design... I'll look into it. Re: [DQSD-Users] ANN: DQSD 3.1.8 goes final!
Does the uninstaller remove the local* files and directory? I think these are left untouched along with the menu history and the command history files... A couple of questions about the installer: Shouldn't the installer create the localsearches directory if it doesnt exist? What about asking for an install path? Is the C:\Program Files... directory hardcoded somewhere? I typically install applications to my D:\Program Files... directory, but I am not afforded the opportunity to pick a different location in the install process... RE: [DQSD-Users] ANN: DQSD 3.1.8 goes final!
Hi Ed, I'm not sure (though I probably should be). However, a lot of files have been removed/replaced with others in this version compared to 3.1.6, so for cleanliness, I'd remove 3.1.6 and install 3.1.8 fresh. In case you don't know - to backup your settings, save the following files somewhere: - localsearch.css - localaliases.txt - localprefs.js - localevents.xml - localsearches directory Then you can uninstall DQSD safely, reboot, and reinstall DQSD 3.1.8. Copy the files back into the DQSD install dir, and you should be back to normal. Do we need to uninstall the old (3.1.6 in my case) before installing the new DQSD? --On Sunday, January 18, 2004 8:54 PM +0100 Kim Gräsman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Hi all, I decided to add Monty's new theme support, hope it serves its purpose well!
