RE: [DQSD-Users] Any dqsd equivalents that don't require IE?

2003-08-25 Thread Shawn K. Hall
Hi SGP,

Can any of the DQSD developers give me an idea of how
entangled the DQSD code is with IE? Is it really a
 strong dependency?

To give you an idea, the toolbar itself is a webpage that runs in an
IE process. The dll has hooks into shlwapi.dll and wininet.dll, both
of which are part of the integration of IE into Windows. The
shell-toolbar functionality (which makes DQSD what it is) is an
exposed feature of IE4+.

I'm pretty sure it would be pretty difficult to make it work without
IE. I've attempted to make it into a search-box on a webpage - and
will post information here if I ever do finish it - but I've had less
than perfect results already. ;)

Regards,

I've never used 98lite but from what I've read you
 can install IE after
doing the 98lite teardown (or install from scratch
 if thats what you're
 doing).
Is that an option for you?

Not really an option. I tried installing IE60 over
98lite before, bat basically 98lite was back to Fat
Win98 with some features not working.

I think adding IE60 to 98lite kind of voids the
purpose of using 98lite in the first place, and I'm
planning to install 98lite in the micro
configuration, the slimmest, which means even using
the Win95 explorer exe.

Can any of the DQSD developers give me an idea of how
entangled the DQSD code is with IE? Is it really a
strong dependency?

[DQSD-Users] Any dqsd equivalents that don't require IE?

2003-08-21 Thread SGP
I realize this question has been asked before, and
that the answer is In order to work at all, DQSD
requires the IE engine to be installed on your PC.
However, I need to revive an old Pentium machine by
installing 98lite, which strips IE from Win98, and
running Opera to browse the web. But I'm so attached
to DQSD that I need to find something equivalent to
it. Most likely, it would have to be a web-based
service/page, although I'm still hoping for the
miracle of someone saying, I did it, I modified DQSD
to run without IE!
Any suggestions anyone? Thanks
