[drakelist] TR-4C Help needed.

2008-05-25 Thread Bent
Hello

I need some help for my TR-4C which I have bought as beeing OK, but was not.
Hopefully someone are able to give me some useful ideas.

The receiver seems to be OK on all bands.
But something is wrong on the transmitter side.

I have added a table to show what happend if I try to tune on the different
band.

All the voltages from the AC-4 seems to be OK.
When I push on the relative output nothing happend when I try to tune up.

Thanks in advance.

CW and tune up only work with the sideband switch in the X position. I
believe the behavior you observe is normal. Once tuned up, you can switch to
the sideband you want to use for SSB.

Hallo John

Thanks for your response.
You have misunderstood the problem
As you see in the table it is not possible to tune up in following combinations:

80m LSB
40m USB
20mLSB
15m USB
10mUSB

When I push on the relative output nothing happend at all when I try to tune up
YES combination.

Bent,
Is receive good in those positions? Is the carrier oscillator close to 9
mhz? If you cannot get RF output in the X filter position and receive
sounds poor you may have a bad LSB filter. This is not uncommon.

[drakelist] TR7 2nd IF Audio board

2008-05-25 Thread David Chris Drake
Hi,
Does anyone know about when, by serial number, Drake went to the newer version
2nd IF-Audio board?

As much time has passed, I know that unless one is sure his/her radio is
original, it may be hard to tell due to possible board changes before the
current owner. But does someone out there has a good idea?

FYI, my current TR7 is SN, 5392, split rear panel, late version NB, Late
version pre-driver, early version digital control board and early version
IF/Audio. I may be wrong, but the NB is likely a newer addition.

I did notice that my IF/audio board has been repaired, an IC replaced and a
poor soldering job that I had to clean up. I guess, bottom line, I'm trying
to figure out if my audio board is original to the radio or not.

Thanks,
David

Tom,
From my saved Drake archives, Garey Barrell reported the change was
around s/n 6000, so yours might well have had the version 1 or 2 as
original.

Thanks, the 6000 number does make some sense of the ones I've seen. You
never know with the number of parted out 7's out there today.

If anyone out there has a 7 with the first version board above 6000, and you
think its stock, let us know. That would be good to put in the book.
