[Drakelist] Virtual Drake
I have been coding some cool analog meters for SDRSharp, a SDR program. The latest features my R4C, some on the list may have an interest. http://tinyurl.com/la6na6a http://tinyurl.com/la6na6a de wb8yqj Don___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
Re: [Drakelist] Virtual Drake
Jim, I can do a TR-7 meter but need a very high resolution, well lit photograph taken directly in front of the meter. I have C and B line but no TR7... [Drakelist] Hayseed Caps
Hello All, I have a pair of R4C's and an R4B that will get new electrolytics. They are stock at present. First job is removing the old cans. All I have is a Weller gun at present100/140 for the removal. I have a standard iron for installation. If anyone can suggest the best way to remove this solder from the chassis and twist tab - a specific tool or method, the rest of the job should be managable at first glance. Thanks in advance, Don ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist

I have been keeping a mint original stock C Line stored away in reserve for some years now, can anyone say what it would fetch these days? [Drakelist] Simple R4B troubleshoot
Hey guys, The fuse blew out on my R4B today. There are 2 filter caps that I am inclined to check, one is mounted underneath the power transformer, the other is the larger silver can mounted above the chassis. Can these be tested with a simple VOM? What readings to look for - shorted? Also wondering what else to test before tossing another fuse in line. The wiring attached to the NOTCH pot also seems to be disintegrating all by itself - interesting. Thanks, Don Rasmussen Carlsbad, Ca.___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
[Drakelist] Deoxit debroke it.
I sold a Drake C Line to a ham friend a few years back. It had been fully functional for me for months and the fellow came over to pick them up. I fired them both up in front of him, on my antenna and went everywhere, all bands, everything worked - HAD FUN! He carried them out to his truck (smiling), they went on the passenger seats with towels over them. I get a phone call an hour after he left (here), him wondering why this receiver is DED. Nothing - flat out unresponsive. My jaw hit the floor. Something happened in the cool down period at my place, during the truck ride, or upon setup on his side. He's an honest and smart ham. I learned never to assume any cause nor affect with things so mechanical in nature. My guess - the deoxit may seem like a red flag but it could be s many other things... Steve Berg wa9jml at tbc.net Tue Mar 2 22:18:41 EST 2010 I have used de-oxit many times on old National, and Clegg equipment, both on switches and on pots. So far, I have had no trouble from it. I may even have saturated the wafers on a switch or two in the process to no ill effects. I am much more careful with it now, though. Many of these components are almost if not impossible to find now, and I don't want to take any unnecessary chances in wrecking something. I cannot argue with the transmit fidelity which is noticably the best on the band. But on receive, all of the DSP receivers that I have listened to sound distinctly digital (which to my ears is not natural having grown up with DRAKE), and so, not fitting to emulation. Elecraft somehow got the AGC right and you can hook up a big honkin speaker to it and fill a room with the audio. Close your eyes and it's... Drake. Anyone have a DSP rig that sounds analog like K3 Don - Very nice!! Now all you have to do is make a skin for the PSDR or GSDR Software Defined Receivers.. http://code.google.com/p/powersdr-iq/ http://code.google.com/p/powersdr-iq/downloads/list 73, Garey - K4OAH Glen Allen, VA ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist

Hey Guys, I've made an R4C skin for the PC and Elecraft K3. Take a look here: http://www.zerobeat.net/wb8yqj/DR4C.jpg http://www.zerobeat.net/mediawiki/index.php/K3_DRAKE_R4C_Emulation http://www.zerobeat.net/mediawiki/index.php/K3_BSR-SM_Version_7 You can see in the first image I added NR, PREAMP, and ATTN indicators on the CW positions, and the DSP bandwidth went in the Auxillary Crystal selector but for the most part the rest of it is stock. The K3 does a better job than most at emulating the FB R4C. Cheers, Don ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
[Drakelist] How to clean Drake knobs?
A Bounty towel will polish the Black to a high shine, then take a Bounty sheet, fold it into quarters and lay on a flat solid table. Take some cheap white model paint (I used Testers) and lay the paint in the groove at the top of the knob and then in the groove at the front with a model style paintbrush (cheap). Slop outside of the grooves slightly and load the paint well in the groove. Let it dry for a minute then wipe each side of the knob on that paper towel. That will take the slop from outside of the groove and polish the knob. That's how I did these: http://www.zerobeat.net/wb8yqj/DR4C.jpg It goes fast and easy... [Drakelist] How to clean Drake knobs? Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] I always used the lacquer sticks..available from engravers supply pl;aces. The only problem with them is the knob lines are very wide and deep--relative to normal engraved lettereing--so it is easy to get a kind of gobby application if you aren't careful. Lately, since starting to use them in modelling, I love the white paint pens..from artist supply houses. If you try a couple of different tip sizes, you will get one that lays right into the knob slot with no fuss and no muss. My opinion is these are now the way to go. And if you feel wild, they are available in a rainbow of colors :) Curt ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
