Re: [Drakelist] T-4X Troubles Solved

Curt et al,

I've had good success with Antique Electronic Supply on the web at
http://www.tubesandmore.com/

They have lots of good NOS tubes and you might be able to request a particular
brand such as Sylvania.

Subject: [Drakelist] T-4X Troubles Solved

The behavior of my T-4X with plate current dip normally and load properly on 80
& 40 but not on higher bands ended up being the 6JB6 tubes.  My T-4XB worked
fine on all bands, so first I installed the final tubes from the T-4X into the
T-4XB.  When I did that, the T-4XB behaved as the T-4X had, no dip on 20, 15, &
10.  These final tubes were RCA tubes, and suspiciously clean externally.  Then
installed the dusty Sylvania tubes, with "35" written on the outside of each
from the T-4XB into the T-4X, whereupon the T-4X plate current dipped and could
load the transmitter on all bands.  The neutralization seems on-the-money as
well.  So, now the T-4X works perfectly, the T-4XB is "sick".

I await receipt of two "NOS" 6JB6 tubes to see how well they will work in the
T-4XB, am not sure what brand they will be.  Wish knew a source for "known
good" 6JB6 tubes, would buy a few for spares.
