[Bug 28852] New: [KMS] radeon artifacts when switched to graphics after boot

2011-02-10 Thread bugzilla-dae...@bugzilla.kernel.org
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28852

Summary: [KMS] radeon artifacts when switched to graphics after
boot
   Product: Drivers
   Version: 2.5
Kernel Version: 2.6.38-rc2 (branch airlied/drm-2.6.git/drm-fixes)
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
  Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P1
 Component: Video(DRI - non Intel)
AssignedTo: drivers_video-dri at kernel-bugs.osdl.org
ReportedBy: oldium.pro at seznam.cz
Regression: Yes

I have running lines on the screen when the radeon driver takes control (see
attached video from system boot). In 2.6.37 it worked fine (some old
drm-radeon-testing branch), but in 2.6.38 drm-fixes it started to appear.

I will attach dmesg output for both 2.6.37 and 2.6.38 with drm.debug=3.

I don't know, because the same month I reported it, I moved to a HD 5450,
which, also using the Gallium driver shipped with Mesa 7.10, works fine.

In the next days I'll retry with the onboard video and report any success or
failure.

OK, I haven't raised the bug report yet, but I now know how to create it -
reboot via kexec which is what I must have done when I built and installed the
kernel to test your patches. I guess not having booted via the bios is leaving
the card in an odd state. Do you care any more, please? If you do, I'll open
the bug report.

OpenArena Anholt Demo

2011-02-10 Thread Sedat Dilek

I reported the issue to the Debian maintainer via PM and he answered
(quickly) that it is a bug in the current package in unstable.
Fixed release is underway, for more details see his bug-report [1].

[Bug 34156] New: r600g performance regression between 780c183b and 862ebb41

2011-02-10 Thread bugzilla-dae...@freedesktop.org
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34156

Summary: r600g performance regression between 780c183b and
862ebb41
   Product: Mesa
   Version: git
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drivers/Gallium/r600
AssignedTo: dri-devel at lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: dawitbro at sbcglobal.net

Performance suddenly improved by 50-150% across the board in late January, so
I've been very happy with Mesa r600g lately! I've been trying to do quick
builds for testing every couple of days when I get home from work, watching out
for any changes in performance.

My last build was at commit 780c183b (Feb. 6), and that was working great.

Tonight's build was at commit 862ebb41, and performance was degraded severely.
For example, the previous build allowed torcs to hit fps in mid 30's,
occasionally hitting up to 60 fps; tonight I'm getting mid 20's, occasionally
hitting 30 fps. Other apps, and even the desktop, are noticeably more
sluggish. (Reinstalling the previous packages restores excellent performance!)

I will try to bisect this, but some home improvement projects will prevent me
from attempting it until tomorrow night at the soonest, and more likely
Saturday morning. Sorry for the delay.

Hardware: Radeon HD 5750 (Evergreen JUNIPER)

Software:
  kernel 2.6.37 (+ radeon cherry-picks from drm-fixes)
  libdrm 2.4.23
  xorg-server 1.9.4
  xf86-video-ati 6.14.0

OpenArena Anholt Demo

2011-02-10 Thread Sedat Dilek
Hi,

after Debian/squeeze was released a newer (version of) openarena made
its was from experimental to unstable.

Unfortunately, the OA-E-D does not run as benchmark, I end up in the
main menue of OA.

I have tried to dig into the problem by compiling latest mesa-from-git
and ddx-from-git for my radeon RV250.
Furthermore, I have unpacked the TGZ from [1] to ~/.openarena/.

Currently, I have no idea what's wrong, so I attached the output of...

$ LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose $(which openarena) +exec anholt
2>/tmp/openarena_anholt.log

... Xorg.log and dmesg.

[ JFYI: I am using a linux-next kernel and libdrm with driver-date &
core-date removal. ]

Any help, hints, money... appreciated.

Regards,
- Sedat -

[PATCH 2/2] drm/radeon/kms: use linear aligned for evergreen/ni bo blits

2011-02-10 Thread Alex Deucher
Not only is linear aligned supposedly more performant,
linear general is only supported by the CB in single
slice mode. The texture hardware doesn't support
linear general, but I think the hw automatically
upgrades it to linear aligned.

[PATCH 1/2] drm/radeon/kms: use linear aligned for 6xx/7xx bo blits

2011-02-10 Thread Alex Deucher
Not only is linear aligned supposedly more performant,
linear general is only supported by the CB in single
slice mode. The texture hardware doesn't support
linear general, but I think the hw automatically
upgrades it to linear aligned.

[PATCH] drm/radeon: fix race between GPU reset and TTM delayed delete thread.

2011-02-10 Thread Dave Airlie
From: Dave Airlie

My evergreen has been in a remote PC for week and reset has never once
saved me from certain doom, I finally relocated to the box with a
serial cable and noticed an oops when the GPU resets, and the TTM
delayed delete thread tries to remove something from the GTT.

This stops the delayed delete thread from executing across the GPU
reset handler, and woot I can GPU reset now.

I've tried to apply it on top of 2.6.38-rc4, and now it doesn't hang
when I start X, but it hangs when I resume from suspend to RAM.

Since intel_reg_read won't work, can you try this patch instead? Just
patch it in, then cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_drpc_info

[PATCH] drm, drm/i915/lvds: Honour video= parameter to override LVDS fixed mode

Yeah not like this.

you want to make the command line the *last* option we use, the final
fallback. LVDS panels have EDID and VBT hardcoded modes for a good
reason, they don't work with other modes that well. You always want to
use a scaler on the LVDS panel to do modes not the native mode. So if I
have a VBT or EDID and you set video= I should get a scaled mode, not
garbage.

So what I suspect you really want is to leave video= alone or enhance it
somehow, or maybe add i915.lvds_native_mode= parameter.

Dave.

I think the priority can be lowered, since it seems to affect only me (most
people don't run a 7-year old machine I guess). Also, I'm not seeing any
crashes any more with these kernel settings:
CONFIG_HZ=100
CONFIG_NO_HZ=y
CONFIG_PREEMPT=y

I also removed Pulseaudio, which seems to have dropped my idle system load
(while playing music) from 0.60 to 0.01 according to top, and am now running
2.6.38-rc4.

Yes. The exact same thing is still happening to me on 2.6.38-rc4 and
xf86-video-ati git.

As I already mentioned the garbled screen issue goes away when using xrandr
after resume. I personally fixed this for me by executing the following *dirty*
quirk-script on resume:

> export DISPLAY=:0
> export XAUTHORITY="/home/$USER/.Xauthority"

But obviously this cannot be a permanent solution.

Remove dot-openarena directory, copy files/dirs to (new?) ~/openarena/ dir.

$ rm -rf ~/.openarena  cp -av anholt.cfg demos ~/openarena/baseoa/

Unfortunately, the OA-E-D does not run as benchmark, I end up in the

Furthermore, I have unpacked the TGZ from [1] to ~/.openarena/.

Currently, I have no idea what's wrong, so I attached the output of...

 $ LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose $(which openarena) +exec anholt

(In reply to comment #12)
As I already mentioned the garbled screen issue goes away when using xrandr
after resume. I personally fixed this for me by executing the following
 *dirty*
 quirk-script on resume:

Can you dump your regs before and after calling xrandr? using radeonreg
available here (http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~airlied/radeontool/)

(as root after resume):
radeonreg regs all broken.regs
(run xrandr)
radeonreg regs all fixed.regs

Since intel_reg_read won't work, can you try this patch instead? Just

Is this likely to be related the the irq issues your patch addressed or
is it a separate thing that I should report separately?

It's the i915 IRQ alright, but I'm not sure what the cause is. An
unexpected interrupt arrived, although you don't use any paths in the
driver that use interrupts, nor should one be generated when all we are
doing is initialising the device structs. Should just be a minor nuisance
 fortunately.

If you can open a bug report to track it and attach
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_gem_interrupts maybe we can work out from
the interrupt that arrived, why it was triggered.

[Bug 28852] New: [KMS] radeon artifacts when switched to graphics after boot

2011-02-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28852

Summary: [KMS] radeon artifacts when switched to graphics after
boot
   Product: Drivers
   Version: 2.5
Kernel Version: 2.6.38-rc2 (branch airlied/drm-2.6.git/drm-fixes)
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
  Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P1
 Component: Video(DRI - non Intel)
AssignedTo: drivers_video-...@kernel-bugs.osdl.org
ReportedBy: oldium@seznam.cz
Regression: Yes

I have running lines on the screen when the radeon driver takes control (see
attached video from system boot). In 2.6.37 it worked fine (some old
drm-radeon-testing branch), but in 2.6.38 drm-fixes it started to appear.

I will attach dmesg output for both 2.6.37 and 2.6.38 with drm.debug=3.

[PATCH] drm/radeon/kms: fix pll algo quirk function

2011-02-10 Thread Alex Deucher
I'm sick of fighting this. Just add a new pick_pll_algo()
function and quirk specific boards as they are reported.

Add a quirk for the pll algo selection on the MacBookPro2,2.

[Bug 34156] New: r600g performance regression between 780c183b and 862ebb41

2011-02-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34156

Summary: r600g performance regression between 780c183b and
862ebb41
   Product: Mesa
   Version: git
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drivers/Gallium/r600
AssignedTo: dri-devel@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: dawit...@sbcglobal.net

Hardware: Radeon HD 5750 (Evergreen JUNIPER)

  kernel 2.6.37 (+ radeon cherry-picks from drm-fixes)

  xf86-video-ati 6.14.0

I don't know, because the same month I reported it, I moved to a HD 5450,
which, also using the Gallium driver shipped with Mesa 7.10, works fine.

In the next days I'll retry with the onboard video and report any success or
failure.

With the current HEAD Im getting screen flickering really bad to point

it looks like the screen is damaged and/or half plugged-in etc..

 the bisect pointed to here:

 commit 619efb105924d8cafa0c1dd9389e9ab506f5425d

 doing a git revert 619efb10592
gets the screen working properly again.
I havent looked much through the code to see if I can fix this. for the
 time
being I'll revert this on my machine with the current, until later on.

The attached patch should fix it assuming I got your pci ids correct.
I'm done with the pll stuff; too may fixes break other boards.  Just
add a quirk table and be done with it.

The attached patch builds on the previous one and fixes an additional
 regression.

alright... didn't mean to keep you waiting(out of my office for most of the
 day)..
Anyways patch applied, and everything looks good no screen jitters or
 flickering etc..

Thanks for sending this my way so my machine works..

Justin, can you try without these patches, but with the following patch instead?

Does this kernel have the problem patch included? Or is it reverted?

That was without the patch reverted, now I've reverted it and this is
the output:

---
HD boost: yes
Boost freq: 3
HW control enabled: no
SW control enabled: yes
Gated voltage change: no
Starting frequency: P9
Max P-state: P0
Min P-state: P9
RS1 VID: 0
RS2 VID: 8
Render standby enabled: yes
Current RS state: RS2 (RC6)
RSTDBYCTL: 0x474c3000
---

It seems the same.
