[Bug 96351] System hangs up after update to any kernel newer than 3.12*

2015-05-02 Thread bugzilla-dae...@bugzilla.kernel.org
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96351

Hello, guys!
I've made another bisect and the result is
61cf16d8bd38c3dc52033ea75d5b1f8368514a17.
I hope, I did it right.
But I can't check it on my own because I can't do a "git revert 61cf16d8bd":
it always shows me this
> git revert 61cf16d8bd
> error: could not revert 61cf16d... PCI: Add pci_try_reset_function(),
> pci_try_reset_slot(), pci_try_reset_bus()
> hint: after resolving the conflicts, mark the corrected paths
> hint: with 'git add ' or 'git rm '
> hint: and commit the result with 'git commit'

I found that I need to resolve this conflict manually, but I don't know which
conflict I need to resolve.

Can anyone help me?

[Bug 89685] Cripling Dota 2 freeze with Morphling at hero selection or loadout

Today I tried building and installing llvm from git but I still have the issue.
Could anyone tell me if it looks like I did this correctly? Do I need to do
anything special for 32-bit vs 64-bit support? Should I remove llvm installed
from Arch Linux repo before this?

mkdir llvm-git
cd llvm-git/
git clone http://llvm.org/git/llvm.git
cmake ~/builds/llvm-git/llvm/

This bug, which is triggered by dota2 (Valve game), locks up both displays for
a few seconds before they blink black and freeze in the last frame displayed,
requireing a system reboot. The bug seems to happen with others (same symptoms
/ log messages) using other applications (chrome html5 video was mentioned),
but dota2 seems like one of the few recreatable ways to trigger the bug.

Steps to recreate:
Have steam and dota 2 installed (might have to remove steams own bundled
libstdc++ libraries as they conflict with mesa).
Launch dota 2 with any video settings
Start a new lobby with "cheats enabled" and "all pick" game mode (these don't
matter, but make it faster to recreate)
Pick the hero "Chaos Knight" and enter the game
Type in chat "-lvlup 24" to gain max level and skill up everything
Click R to use ulti (which spawns copies of himself)
Hold-drag mouse over all the illusions and the hero.
When the mouse button is released the above bug triggers, crashing the
displaydriver and taking the computer down with it.

In the log attached (journal_log) the bug is triggered at 17:43:50, the first
line there is: "kernel: radeon :01:00.0: GPU fault detected: 147
0x000cc801"
I noticed a few lines later the following lines appeared:

May 02 17:44:01 archfractal kernel: [drm:radeon_pm_resume [radeon]] *ERROR*
radeon: dpm resume failed
May 02 17:44:01 archfractal kernel: [drm:ci_dpm_enable [radeon]] *ERROR*
ci_start_dpm failed

I guessed the bug had something to do with dpm, and disabled it (kernel
parameter radeon.dpm=0). When I had done this the bug could still be recreated,
but the log showed completely different error messages. This log is also
attached as "journal_log_radeon_dpm_is_0"

I had to gzip the first log to fit within the 3M file size limit

Thank you very much for your effort of bringing gpu switching to RMBP, I
tried your patchset, including the one in this email, on my laptop. It is a
Retina MacBookPro, late 2013 version, which is how ifixit calls it. It seems
to work at least partially. Here is the results I observed.

First of all, I use gfxstatus in OSX to force the system to use the intel
gpu. So when I boot into Linux the intel gpu will be activated and I can
turn of the discrete nvidia gpu to save power.

After booted with the patched kernel (on top of v4.0). I can use "echo DIS >
/sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch" to switch to the nvidia gpu. The
console turned black, I guess the system is incapable of switching to the
nouveau's framebuffer at this moment. But after I startx through ssh, I can
use everything without any problem. After quit the X the framebuffer is
recovered as well. I can switch back to intel gpu and start X again no
problem. However when I activated the discrete gpu again, I got a black
screen after startx, the log of X seems normal, just no display on the
screen.

I also tried to use the gfxstatus to resume the "normal" (dynamical
switching) behavior in OSX. Then the nvidia gpu will be used when booting to
linux. I switched to the intel gpu but it appears the gpu did not find the
correct screen. After startx I got a black screen, xrandr does not give me
the eDP output, only some Virtual and VGA outputs.

I hope these information can help to improve those patches. I am happy to
try any (hopefully not dangerous) patches if you have any new ones.

[PATCH/RFC] i915: fix screen flickering

My Lenovo X201s shows the same symptoms with v4.1.0-rc1, and your patch
seems to help.

Another detail: The flickering only happens when both outputs are
active, using xrandr to disable one output makes the other one working
fine, again.

I don't have synergy installed, so this can't be a strict requirement
for triggering the bug.

On my machine this only visible thing this radeon.dpm=0 does is to silent the
error message at resume from sleep. I see no graphic perf increase (at least
with glxgears) and still scrolling issue for the app that had it (assuming it
is actually related to graphics).

I compiled this into kernel 4.0.1 on arch linux. I have an APU with an R7
graphics chip. All went well and after rebooting I was able to switch
output_csc to tvrgb. I tested it with a few different pictures and the black
levels seem to be true. I only eyeballed it though. It looks dramatically
better on my tv. I've been using catalyst proprietary drivers for their
support of limited RGB, but the catalyst GL isn't always friendly to gaming
through Steam. This solves the problem, so many many thanks!

it always crashes for me, when i run https://github.com/abma/qvdpautest

are there some instructions how to debug such crashes/freezes? what info do you
need?

Daniel and others, you might want to recheck this.

I guess unsafe-fp-math might be reenabled now if is stabilise SI and of course
because of better radeonsi performance.
