Requests For Proposals for hosting XDC 2024 are now open

2023-06-19 Thread Ricardo Garcia
Hello everyone!

The X.org board is soliciting proposals to host XDC in 2024. Since XDC
2023 is being held in Europe this year, we've decided to host in North
America. However, the board is open to other locations, especially if
there's an interesting co-location with another conference.

If you're considering hosting XDC, we've assembled a wiki page with
what's generally expected and needed:

https://www.x.org/wiki/Events/RFP/

When submitting your proposal, please make sure to include at least the
key information about the potential location in question, possible
dates along with estimated costs. Proposals can be submitted to board
at foundation.x.org until the deadline of *September 17th, 2023*.

Additionally, an quirk early heads-up to the board if you're
considering hosting would be appreciated, in case we need to adjust the
schedule a bit. Also, earlier is better since there generally will be a
bit of Q with organizers.

And if you just have some questions about what organizing XDC entails,
please feel free to chat with previous organizers, or someone from the
board.

Thanks,
Ricardo Garcia, on behalf of X.Org

2023 X.Org Foundation Election vote results

2023-05-04 Thread Ricardo Garcia
The Board of Directors election and the vote on the By-laws concluded at
14:00 UTC on May 1st 2023 and these are the results:

- We had 75 members this year, of which 55 cast a vote, so the turnout
is 73.3%.

- On the question "Do you accept the proposed By-Law changes to make SFC
the new fiscal sponsor of the X.Org foundation, replacing SPI?" 52 of
the 55 members voted yes (94.5%). Among all 75 members, approval is
69.3% (52/75, over 2/3), so we can consider this change approved using
the current by-law rules.

- On the question "Do you accept the proposed By-Law changes to modify
the special voting quorum requirements to be limited to present (meaning
voting) members?" 48 of the 55 members voted yes (87.3%). Despite this,
48 votes represent only 64% of the members, which means the by-laws
change does not pass.

- In the election of the Directors to the Board of the X.Org Foundation,
the results were that Daniel Vetter, Lyude Paul, Arkadiusz Hiler and
Christopher Michael were elected for two-year terms.

The old full board is: Emma Anholt, Mark Filion, Ricardo Garcia, Samuel
Iglesias Gonsálvez, Manasi D Navare, Lyude Paul, Alyssa Rosenzweig and
Daniel Vetter.

The new full board is: Emma Anholt, Mark Filion, Ricardo Garcia,
Arkadiusz Hiler, Christopher Michael, Lyude Paul, Alyssa Rosenzweig and
Daniel Vetter.

Full election results, sorted by points:

* Daniel Vetter (367 points)
* Lyude Paul (348 points)
* Arkadiusz Hiler (286 points)
* Christopher Michael (263 points)
* Manasi Navare (195 points)
* Uma Shankar (157 points)
* Thomas Adam (105 points)
* William Weeks-Balconi (51 points)

Thanks everyone,
-Ricardo Garcia, on behalf of the X.Org elections committee

2023 X.Org Foundation Membership deadline extended

2023-04-20 Thread Ricardo Garcia
Several people reported getting multiple membership and election emails
recently for the first time when we flushed the queue of messages which
had been unfortunately held in moderation in the eve...@lists.x.org
mailing list queue. Thanks Luc, Laurent and Harald for getting in touch!

Thanks to other mailing lists, we believe to have reached a wide
audience in any case. Membership numbers look good and we already have 8
candidates lined up for the upcoming voting process that was scheduled
to start this week.

Still, we believe it's fair to extend the membership application/renewal
deadline until the end of this week for those who haven't had the chance
to do so yet. The new deadline is April 23rd 23:59 UTC.

Please note that only current members can vote in the upcoming election.
If you are interested in joining the X.Org Foundation or in renewing
your membership, please visit the membership system site at:
https://members.x.org/

In order not to delay the process further, however, we will not accept
new candidates. You can see the current list here:

https://wiki.freedesktop.org/xorg/BoardOfDirectors/Elections/2023/

The election will start on April 24th and end on May 1st as was
initially planned, so members will have 1 week for voting instead of 2.
Reminders will be sent throughout the election week to memb...@x.org.

Thanks again for your attention,
-Ricardo Garcia, on behalf of the X.Org elections committee

2023 X.Org Board of Directors Elections timeline extended, request for nominations

2023-03-24 Thread Ricardo Garcia
We are seeking nominations for candidates for election to the X.org
Foundation Board of Directors. However, as we presently do not have
enough nominations to start the election - the decision has been made to
extend the timeline by 2 weeks. Note this is a fairly regular part of
the elections process.

The new deadline for nominations to the X.org Board of Directors is
23:59 UTC on April 2nd, 2023.

The new deadline for membership application or renewals is April 9th,
2023. Membership is required to vote on the elections.

The Board consists of directors elected from the membership. Each year,
an election is held to bring the total number of directors to eight. The
four members receiving the highest vote totals will serve as directors
for two year terms.

The directors who received two year terms starting in 2022 were Emma
Anholt, Mark Filion, Alyssa Rosenzweig and Ricardo Garcia. They will
continue to serve until their term ends in 2024. Current directors whose
term expires in 2023 are Samuel Iglesias Gonsálvez, Manasi D Navare,
Lyude Paul and Daniel Vetter.

A director is expected to participate in the fortnightly IRC meeting to
discuss current business and to attend the annual meeting of the X.Org
Foundation, which will be held at a location determined in advance by
the Board of Directors.

A member may nominate themselves or any other member they feel is
qualified. Nominations should be sent to the Election Committee at
electi...@x.org.

Nominees shall be required to be current members of the X.Org
Foundation, and submit a personal statement of up to 200 words that will
be provided to prospective voters. The collected statements, along with
the statement of contribution to the X.Org Foundation in the member's
account page on http://members.x.org, will be made available to all
voters to help them make their voting decisions.

Nominations, membership applications or renewals and completed personal
statements must be received no later than 23:59 UTC on April 2nd, 2023.

The slate of candidates will be published April 10th 2023 and candidate
Q will begin then. The deadline for Xorg membership applications and
renewals is April 9th, 2023.

Cheers,
Ricardo Garcia, on behalf of the X.Org BoD
