Maybe. But it _used_ to work fine under xfree86 4.1.0 4.2.0.
Has anyone had any success with Tribes 2 and the Radeon TCL drivers?

Try the workaround patch I just posted. The initial symptoms I started
chasing when I got my lockup were the same as yours (freelist_get returning
NULL - not that that particular error message turned out to have much to do
with the real problem, as was pointed out to me when I started wondering
aloud about it). Possibly you're running into the same problem?

I wish i could test with tcl enabled, but i dont know why, glxinfo gives
me that:

-unknown chip id, assuming full r200 support
-disabling TCL support

I have an ATI Radeon 8500 QL (if it can help)

I must say i'm impressed by the performance of these drivers, as i
get the same fps with ati closed source ones.

TCL support hasn't been written yet. What's there is the leftover radon 7xxx
code, so I just disable it. It's being worked on now.

There have been some other program related problems, that are only visible when using
TCL. Read
the list from last week there is a good example, Tux Racer. Since the problem only
happes with
this one app we need to know more about this app. File another bug report against the
app, giving
them the dri-devel e-mail address as they will want to talk to us, once they duplicate
your
findings.
Lets not focus too much on where the problem is, but on what the problem is.

For all things there are many solutions.
For some DRI related bugs the fix can be maid in the app or driver.

The lockups occur only after I move the mouse (which moves
the 3D scene
around). But anyway ...
/var/log/XFree86.0.log didn't move at all after the Tribes 2
game menu
had loaded (ie nothing appeared before or after the lockup).
dmesg was completely full of:

[drm:radeon_freelist_get] *ERROR* returning NULL!

What can I do to get you some more info relating to this?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

You can do this: Dont touch the mouse... use the keyboard.

sounds hoaxing maybe, but isnt.

But if the problem is related to the mouse coursor or alikes
then it should not happen with the keyboards. I just dont know
if your application does support keyboard inputs.

Regards,
Alex.

Thanks Alex and others who have helped so far.

I don't think it's directly related to the mouse. I have tried with
direct mouse input on off (in the game) and also tried not touching
the mouse at all. My PC locked hard as soon as I used the keyboard to
move forward.

The version of xfree86 I am currently using is the main DRI cvs trunk
from 03-07-02. Note however that ALL texture and lighting installs (and
all kernels) I have tried out so far have had the same problem, and I
have been trying for a long time. Also I know it's not related to the
new Mesa stuff because I had also been trying out the Mesa4 branch and
not experienced this problem.

dmesg is full of:
[drm:radeon_freelist_get] *ERROR* returning NULL!

Here is my xfree86 log (which didn't move between when everything was
working and when the lockup occured; but I could still run commands from
my remote box via ssh):
