Re: [dspace-tech] DSpace CRIS showing Title only in current language - is that expected?

2023-10-11 Thread Oliver Goldschmidt

Hello Jarmo,

from what I know, this is a specific DSpace-CRIS function. It's true,
that DSpace-CRIS will only show the metadata in the language
corresponding to the language chosen by the user. But in contrast to
what you are descibing, the language of the UI should be taken to
choose, which metadata will be displayed.
This behavior cannot be turned off! But I guess it would be possible
just to set no language at all (maybe it also works with your proposal
to use different language codes - I have not tried that).

Best
Oliver

Hi all,

I just noticed an unexpected behaviour in our DSpace-CRIS 7:

If a publication has multiple titles or abstracts in different
languages, only one of them is visible in the UI, both in details and
full view. In our case it seems to be the one with "EN" as a language,
even though our UI is in German (DE). If I remove the language
attribute or enter an unknown code, all copies are visible.

Questions:
- Is this behaviour specific to DSpace-CRIS or is it normal DSpace
behaviour?
- Can it be turned off somehow? We do want to have all Versions
visible as we do not plan on providing the UI in multiple languages.

One possible workaround would be to use ISO632-2 language codes with 3
letters (eng instead of en) for title and abstract - then all versions
are visible but that feels a bit like a hack.

Cheers
Jarmo

RE: [dspace-tech] How to post the values through api

2023-10-11 Thread Fitchett, Deborah
Hi,

The functionality you’re creating sounds interesting but it’s important to be
aware that it’s not really how DSpace is designed to work.

It’s open source software so of course you can absolutely do this! But:

  1. It’s likely that no-one else has done what you’re doing before so there
may not be anyone on the list with the expertise to answer your questions.
  2. The API and other core functionality won’t have been designed to support
your use case so you may need to change a lot of code in order to make it work.
If something breaks while you do this, probably no-one else will know how to
help you troubleshoot (see #1).
  3. If you change the database structure/code, it will be more difficult to
upgrade to take advantage of new functionality or (more importantly) security
patches.

There are projects out there that have extended DSpace database
structure/code/functionality in interesting ways so it definitely can be done.
But my impression has been that quite a lot of work is involved so I’d suggest
making sure you understand the full scope of what you need to do (both in
initial development and longterm maintenance) before you get too involved.

Hi,
Is anyone know how epersongroup2eperson and community2collection table was
stored?

I have created a new table called eperson2community in that i want to store the
eperson_id and community_id.

It is like i have created a column in new user register page (i have attache
the image for that) normally when a user register its values were stored in
database like email, password in eperson table. So i have added an new dropdown
field called community there i have fetch the available community names from
the database.

Now when the user submit the form i want to store the community_id from the
selected community name through drop down and the eperson_id in
eperson2community table.

And also i want to know is there any end points for this 2 tables :
epersongroup2eperson and community2collection

[dspace-tech] How to have customized submission form for different collections on DSpace 7.6

2023-10-11 Thread Lewatle Johannes Phaladi
Dear DSpace Colleagues,

When creating customized submission submission form for different
collections which steps should I follow? For certain collection users want
different field to apply and others they want different fields to be used.
I am using DSpace 7.6 version.

Regards,
Lewatle

Re: [dspace-tech] DSpace 7.6 ORCID iD badge on author name

2023-10-11 Thread 'Bollini, Andrea' via DSpace Technical Support
Hello Tuan,
it is currently not possible to display the ORCID badge in a plain DSpace fully
respecting the ORCID logo guidelines.

In short, in DSpace you can eventually know that the ORCID stored in a person
item is authenticated but the user is allowed to alter this information
manually, so it cannot be fully trusted.
It is also more complicated if you want to display it on a linked publication
or product as there is no process in DSpace currently that allow the researcher
to "claim" a publication or eventually to discard misattribution.
Organization policies could eventually alleviate/solve such issues.

These issues are not present in DSpace-CRIS but the solution depends on
advanced capabilities of DSpace-CRIS (granular security, management of
references, content notification at the researcher level, etc.) that have been
not yet ported in DSpace and that would require a not trivial effort and
discussion.

I will talk also about that today, in a ORCID promoted webinar
https://dspace.lyrasis.org/22804-2/

Best regards,
Andrea

Subject: Re: [dspace-tech] DSpace 7.6 ORCID iD badge on author name

Hello Tuan,

on https://tore.tuhh.de we are using DSpace-CRIS and not generic DSpace.
DSpace-CRIS comes with a special layout of the itempages (like
https://tore.tuhh.de/entities/product/BalticSeaSandLabTests/researchdatadetails)
and this layout can be configured to show the ORCID badge. I know, that it was
planned to port the display of the ORCID badge to DSpace 7.6 [1], but I don't
know, if that really happened (maybe the developers of DSpace-CRIS at 4Science
can say more about that).

Hope that helps a bit further, best regards

Oliver

[dspace-tech] DSpace Development Fund Request: Ensure Compliance with Web Accessibility Guidelines

2023-10-11 Thread Maureen P. Walsh
As the DSpace Community plans for the next phase of development, we want to
ensure that DSpace lives up to its promise as the software of choice for
open access digital repositories by making it open to all, including users
with disabilities.

Between now and December 31, 2023, funds donated to the DSpace Development
Fund can be dedicated to ensuring compliance with web accessibility
guidelines in DSpace, starting with remediation of the latest DSpace 7
release.

By giving to the DSpace Development Fund, your institution will facilitate
an accessibility audit of DSpace, as well as paid development to remediate
accessibility issues. Donors will be recognized as DSpace Accessibility
Champions in the DSpace wiki

and
in the DSpace newsletter.

Here are some ways you or your institution can support this DSpace
Development Fund priority:

   -

The best way to support DSpace is through membership
   . If your organization
is not a member yet, please join us, and if you like, we can dedicate this
year’s membership dues towards the DSpace Development Fund priority of
   ensuring web accessibility compliance.
   -

If your organization is already a member, increase your membership fee
one time only, or on a recurring basis. We'll count the increase in this
year’s fee toward the DSpace Development Fund.
   -

If your organization can't commit to membership or would just like to
contribute outside of the membership program in support of DSpace
development, you can make a one-time contribution of any size to the DSpace
   Development Fund.

Would your organization like to contribute to this DSpace development
priority in some other way? Contact us to discuss some options.

If you would like to know more and/or contribute to the DSpace Development
Fund, please contact us at

dspacedonati...@lyrasis.org. You can also visit the DSpace wiki

for
more information about the DSpace Development Fund and see a list of
institutions that have already contributed.

DSpace continues to grow and evolve to sustain open repositories because of
generous contributions of time and resources by the global DSpace
community. Thank you for your continued support.

Thank you,

Maureen Walsh
