It depends. If your 1.4.1 instance is just a test intance that you won't
use any more, then using it for 1.4.2 instead will be fine. If this
isn't the case, you should probably just make a copy of the database and
use that instead.

[Dspace-tech] Timeline for v1.5

2007-05-18 Thread Eric Luhrs
Hello all,
After testing v1.4.1 for a few months, and going through all of the
planning steps, my institution will run a DSpace pilot program in Fall
2007. We also plan to use Manakin to customize our UI. Since I have
heard that v1.5 will include Manakin, I'd like to wait for that
release if possible. Can someone give me an idea of when v1.5 is
expected? Also, is there a URL that lists expected feature changes?

With many thanks in advance,

Yup - not a problem. 1.4.2 is a bug fix release only, so will run over
the same database with no problems. Just ant update.

Hello!

We're going to test DSpace 1.4.2 and we're wondering if we can configure
it against the same DB that 1.4.1.
Has anybody try it?

Thanks!!

Re: [Dspace-tech] UpGrade Question

2007-05-18 Thread Monika Mevenkamp

I am not really sure what you want to do.

If you simply want to move the dspace installation directory, you need to
#1 of cause move the whole dir
#2 edit the config/dspace.cfg file in the installation directory
and change dspace.dir, log.dir, ... property values to reflect the new
location, simply search for /var/local/whereIhadpermissions/dspace and
   replace
#3 cd to the source directory, remove the build subdirectory, and recompile:

   ant -Dconfig=NEW_DIR/config/dspace.cfg update
#4 copy war files

Revisit the Installation instructions on the DSPACE
site.
There is also a DSPACE HOWTO
GUIDEthat might be
helpful.

If you actually want to upgrade to a new version, the latest is 1.4.2 with
1.5 somewhere around the corner, you will have to download the new source
code and merge the changes you did to your installation into the new
version. New code is available through
sourceforge

managed to get the system administrators to grant me necessary permissions
to install to /var/local/dspace.

So the question. How to I upgrade? If I copy the current instance from
where it is to where I want it, all the paths will be wrong (and I suspect
that the upgrade routine won't correct that). Any thoughts or suggestions
would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: [Dspace-tech] database_error

2007-05-18 Thread James Rutherford
Sounds like your database server isn't running, or isn't configured
correctly. Check the following settings in your dspace.cfg:

db.url
db.username
db.password

If they are all set correctly for your postgres server, then you need to
make sure that the server is running and accepting TCP/IP connections.
If you're running linux, you can check this by running the following as
root:

lsof -i tcp:5432

If it gives no results, then postgres hasn't been started correctly.

Cheers,

Jim
