You need to add the bin directory of all these tools in your system PATH.
ie: for JAVA see this one: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/path.xml

Accordingly, set the path for the other tools as well.

Hi Eric,

it's not clear from your message which OS you're using. You should
have also included the exact error message. I'm asuming it's bash:
java: command not found or equivalent.

On Thu, Jan 16, 2014 at 10:38 AM, Eric Martyns martynse...@gmail.com wrote:
 i ran the command
 java-version
 ANT-version

Firstly, there has to be a space between the command and its parameter:
java -version
ant -version

Secondly, UNIX-like systems are case sensitive, so you can't type
ANT, you have to type ant. Windows is case-insensitive.

Assuming you're doing that correctly, you most likely haven't added
the path to these commands to your PATH environment variable. How to
do this depends on which OS you're using, that's why you must include
all this information when asking questions.

Did you intend to change working directory?

C:\Userscd \dspace-4.0-src-release\dspace

Anyway, the directory you must run mvn package from is now
dspace-4.0-src-release, not dspace-4.0-src-release\dspace. This
was corrected after the PDF manual was made.

[Dspace-tech] Migrate community with AIP?

2014-01-16 Thread Alan Orth
Hi,

I've got a development instance where we uploaded a few hundred items
(in one community and several collections). Our editors spent some time
manually uploading bit streams to many of these items. Now I want to
migrate the community and its hierarchy to the production instance. We
can't use the CSV via Export Metadata because of the bit streams, so
I've been looking at using AIP, ie:

dspace packager -s -a -t AIP -e m...@us.org -p 10568/0 33474.zip

This works great, but the resulting items now have two of each of the
following fields:
- dc.date.accessioned
- dc.date.available
- dc.identifier.uri

I can't figure out a work flow that doesn't produce this effect...

Thanks,

Re: [Dspace-tech] Customize messages.xml files

2014-01-16 Thread Carlos Walter Blandon Alvarez
Hi Oscar.

Currently we have the same problem. In the initial installation of DSpace 4.0
with XMLUI interface and Mirage Theme, was with Spanish language (es) but after
restart TOMCAT it changed to English language (en). I modified messages_es.xml
file and then I rebuild DSPACE but still with the English language by default.
In dspace.cfg is configured with the options to the Spanish language (es).

could you fix this?

Hi all,
I install Dspace 4.0 and for now it Works well, but when I try to customize the
i18n messages files the application set its default to messages.xml (default
English language). As a proof, I only modify the parameter:
message key=xmlui.dri2xhtml.structural.head-subtitleRepositorio Dspace
versión 4.0/message in the messages_es.xml. Also create a locale
messages_es_CR.xml and do the same change. The result is that the Mirage
interface returns to English version of the messages.xml file.

Does anybody know what is happen?

Re: [Dspace-tech] Migrate community with AIP?

2014-01-16 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Alan,

On 1/16/2014 9:10 AM, Alan Orth wrote:

 following fields:
  - dc.date.accessioned
  - dc.date.available
  - dc.identifier.uri

I can't figure out a work flow that doesn't produce this effect...

These three fields are unfortunately auto-generated by DSpace whenever
you treat an AIP as a submission information package (SIP), which is
what the -s option. Essentially, the '-s' option assumes this is new
content, so DSpace defines these fields as:
 * dc.date.accessioned - the date this new content was added to DSpace
 * dc.date.available - the date this new content became available in
DSpace (i.e. finished approval workflow)
 * dc.identifier.uri - the assigned Handle for this object

For your situation, you may need to consider some metadata related
questions.

* Does your development instance assign proper Handles? If not, then
you *need* Production to assign a new dc.identifier.uri. This may mean
that you'll have to unfortunately do some post-metadata cleanup (perhaps
via the Bulk Metadata Editor) of the invalid development handles in
the dc.identifier.uri fields. DSpace never overwrites or removes
existing metadata.

* Do you want the date.accessioned and date.available fields to be
set to the dates the Item was added to *development* or to *production*?
If the latter, again, you may unfortunately need to do some
post-metadata cleanup, as DSpace specifically *never* removes/overwrites
existing metadata fields.

Depending on your setup/answers to your questions, there are three
possible AIP import options I can see:

1a) Use Restore/Replace option instead (-r) when migrating to Production.

If you treat this as an AIP restoration then DSpace will skip creating
date.accessioned, date.available and identifier.uri fields and
assume that the provided values in the AIPs are correct (as it assumes
you are restoring a set of deleted objects). WARNING: If the
'dc.identifier.uri' in the AIP does NOT correspond to a valid Handle,
then you will end up with invalid Handles in Production! (See next option.)

More on Restore/Replace:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC4x/AIP+Backup+and+Restore#AIPBackupandRestore-Restoring/ReplacingusingAIP(s)

1b) When using Restore/Replace, you may want/need to override some of
the default options. For example, restoration will always assume the
'dc.identifier.uri' is a valid Handle (so a new Handle will not be
assigned). Restoration will also always attempt to restore an object
under the *specified* parent object in the AIP -- so, this means if a
Collection was under a Community with ID 123456789/1 in your
development instance, then it will be restored under a Community of the
*same ID* in Production

Luckily, these defaults can be overridden. See the 'ignoreHandle' and
'ignoreParent' Advanced options documented here:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC4x/AIP+Backup+and+Restore#AIPBackupandRestore-AdditionalPackagerOptions

2) The other option is to still use Submission (-s) option, but use one
or more of the Advanced options (in 1b) to tweak the defaults.

I know this is a lot of info, but hopefully it gives you some ideas to
go on.

- Tim

Re: [Dspace-tech] BROWSE INDEX

2014-01-16 Thread Kostas Stamatis

Hi,

Assuming that “dc.reportno” is a valid metadata field in your dc schema,
dspace.cfg looks fine, but after you did the changes you need to re-index
browse.

You can do so by moving to path “{dspace_installation}/bin and execute the
following command: dspace.bat index-update”. According to your space.cfg file,
the path must be something like: D:/Dspace/bin

index-update will update browse and search index for you. And this is needed
since you have updated the browse configuration in the dspace.cfg.

Regards,

Kostas

Re: [Dspace-tech] Diacritics and DSpace 4.0 and 3.1

2014-01-16 Thread Thomas Misilo
I looked a t it and I believe that those configuration changes were included in
DSpace 4.0, via the pull request https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/287.

Though I haven't had any luck. I made sure JAVA and TOMCAT both have the UTF-8
flags, and reindex everything, and it still isn't working.

Thanks again for the ideas/help.

 Good morning,

If you're using Discovery, this ticket may help:
 https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1152. For the previous default
search, this email thread may help:
 http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=29655187.

I've been wondering if these solutions might not be in the default set-up.
Are there other types of character encodings it would be a problem with?

We've experienced the same problem (although UTF8/Unicode was
activated within DSpace), and decided to do away with diacritics
completely (in titles and surnames). End-users so far have not
complained. I suspect they seldom use diacritics when entering search
terms. It would be interesting to know how Google addresses this issue.

I did not have that attribute but I did add it to both servers, and

2014-01-16 Thread Brian Freels-Stendel
Good afternoon,

Maybe taking a step backward, do you have an AJP connector set up in Tomcat's
server.xml? If so, does it also have URIEncoding=UTF-8? I don't remember if
that point has been addressed

Re: [Dspace-tech] Migrate community with AIP?

2014-01-16 Thread Alan Orth
Thanks, both Tim and Helix.

Yes, I initially looked into the -r mode, but then realized that, as
Tim mentioned, our development instance doesn't necessarily create
proper handles. Our development instance is more of a code-testing
ground, and we don't sync the content very frequently. Also, the
date-related meta data isn't necessarily correct either, as the
accession into the development instance (for quality assurance) isn't
necessarily the accession date we'd want.

I think I'll have to rely on a two-step approach: first ingesting via
AIP to get community/collection hierarchy and bitstreams, then meta data
cleanup of the resulting community to clean the old URIs and accession
dates etc.

Thanks for bouncing some ideas around!

 Hi Alan,

 * dc.date.available - the date this new content became available
in DSpace (i.e. finished approval workflow)
 * dc.identifier.uri - the assigned Handle for this object

For your situation, you may need to consider some metadata related
 questions.

 * Does your development instance assign proper Handles? If not, then
you *need* Production to assign a new dc.identifier.uri. This may
mean that you'll have to unfortunately do some post-metadata cleanup
(perhaps via the Bulk Metadata Editor) of the invalid development
handles in the dc.identifier.uri fields. DSpace never overwrites or
 removes existing metadata.

 * Do you want the date.accessioned and date.available fields to be
set to the dates the Item was added to *development* or to
*production*? If the latter, again, you may unfortunately need to do
some post-metadata cleanup, as DSpace specifically *never*
 removes/overwrites existing metadata fields.

Depending on your setup/answers to your questions, there are three
possible AIP import options I can see:

1a) Use Restore/Replace option instead (-r) when migrating to
 Production.

If you treat this as an AIP restoration then DSpace will skip
 creating date.accessioned, date.available and identifier.uri
fields and assume that the provided values in the AIPs are correct (as
it assumes you are restoring a set of deleted objects). WARNING: If
the 'dc.identifier.uri' in the AIP does NOT correspond to a valid
Handle, then you will end up with invalid Handles in Production! (See
 next option.)

 More on Restore/Replace:
 https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC4x/AIP+Backup+and+Restore#AIPBackupandRestore-Restoring/ReplacingusingAIP(s)

1b) When using Restore/Replace, you may want/need to override some
of the default options. For example, restoration will always assume
the 'dc.identifier.uri' is a valid Handle (so a new Handle will not be
assigned). Restoration will also always attempt to restore an object
under the *specified* parent object in the AIP -- so, this means if a
Collection was under a Community with ID 123456789/1 in your
development instance, then it will be restored under a Community of
 the *same ID* in Production

Luckily, these defaults can be overridden. See the 'ignoreHandle' and
 'ignoreParent' Advanced options documented here:

 https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC4x/AIP+Backup+and+Restore#AIPBackupandRestore-AdditionalPackagerOptions

 2) The other option is to still use Submission (-s) option, but use
one or more of the Advanced options (in 1b) to tweak the defaults.

I know this is a lot of info, but hopefully it gives you some ideas to
 go on.
