Hi Alan,

OpenSearch is using the dspace.cfg not discovery.xml and sorting options
are defined like that:

webui.itemlist.sort-option.1 = dateissued:dc.date.issued:date
webui.itemlist.sort-option.2 = dateaccessioned:dc.date.accessioned:date

The sort-option and the order can be defined with get parameters like this
&sort_by=1&order=DESC

Best

[Dspace-tech] New user registration reg.

2014-12-02 Thread ribin . jones
Hi all,

I have dspace 4 up and running in Linux 14.04 LTS. I need some customizations
to be done.

I need to collect more information from a person who is registering in dspace.
Right now, we just have First Name, Last Name and Contact Telephone. I need to
have more fields and also make it mandatory to fill in. Which is the file I
should edit for this?

Thanks in advance,

Ribin Jones S.B

I would not know how exactly this would look in dmesg, however, I found nothing
alarming.
Here is a short snippet I guess to be relevant.

[1.788926] sd 2:0:1:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through

This is VM-Ware ESX Virtual machine on physical host not under my direct
control. I havent ever noticed any resource shortcomings. There is either
sufficient disk space, RAM und cpu available.

The configuration has not changed within at least half a year (tomcat) or two
years in case of postgres respectively.

   Name| Owner | Encoding | Collate |Ctype| Access
privileges
---+--+--+-+-+---
 dspace| postgres | UTF8 | de_DE.UTF-8 | de_DE.UTF-8 |

Meanwhile, I have managed to reproduce the db connection error with this simple

The log4j.properties have been set to DEBUG for the A1 appender.
Huge amounts of DEBUG messages are found in the dspace log when issuing
something like bin/dspace filter-media or bin/dspace itemcounter.
Changing settings in the log4j-console.properties does not have an effect.
I also set the cocoon logging settings to DEBUG, but got no useful messages at
the same time in the cocoon logfile.

I does not make sense to me, that DSpace says everything is fine
while the database contemplates a stale connection, abandoned by tomcat.

I have checked that the current jdbc connector postgresql-9.1-903.jdbc4.jar is
available in /srv/dspace/lib,
where /srv/dspace is the working directory of my dspace installation.
I have also made sure, that this is the only jdbc connector there.
I mention this because there was an elder connector
postgresql-8.1-408.jdbc3.jar besides the current connector.
I dont know the rules how connectors are matched, but I just wanted to be sure.
I checked the same two conditions within each WEB-INF/lib under
/var/lib/tomcat7/webapps/*.
I restarted completely after cleaning out the old jdbc connector files.

I lowered and raised the db.maxconnections setting from 30 to 5 and to 80.
I restarted tomcat7 each time and did my test running bin/dspace itemcounter
and checking the postgresql logfile afterwords.
I had the "unexpected EOF on client connection" messages in the postgresql log
regardless of this sett

I included an echo of the my "dspace import" parameters. I did not include
"dspace" in the echo.

In your contents file, try using "bundle:ORIGINAL" instead of "Bundle:

[Dspace-tech] Database Query: list of Communities, Collections and Items

Hi,

I need to obtain report with a complete list of the Communities with their
respective Handle number, and for each Community I need a list of their
Collections, with their respective Handle number, and for each Collection I
need a list of their Items, with their respective Handle number.

Ej:

Community 1, 123456789/1

- Collection 1, 123456789/3

- Item 1, 123456789/40

- Item 2, 123456789/41

- ...

- Collection 2, 123456789/4

- Item 3, 123456789/43

- Item 4, 123456789/44

- ...

-

Community 2, 123456789/2

- Collection 1, 123456789/10

- Item 5, 123456789/45

- Item 6, 123456789/46

- ...

- Collection 2, 123456789/11

- Item 1, 123456789/47

- Item 2, 123456789/48

- ...

-

I understand this is only possible with a direct Query to the database.
I've reviewed the ER database model, but I've difficulties to figure out
how to design the query. I'm not an expert and need to get this report as
soon as possible.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

[Dspace-tech] Issues with OpenSearch sortFields and sorting order

2014-12-02 Thread Alan Orth
Hi,

I'm playing with OpenSearch in DSpace 4.2 and I'm having a couple of
issues. I see OpenSearch uses the Discovery configuration, so I'm
investigating `discovery.xml'. Here are two related issues I'm having:

1- I've added a custom sortField for dc.date.accessioned and added it to my
bean's sortFields, but I can't figure out how to use it. OpenSearch has a
`sort_by' parameter which only takes an integer; how do I know which
integer to use?

2- If I use `sort_by=2` it appears to be sorting by dc.date.issued, but in
ascending order, even though `discovery.xml' lists "desc" as the default
sort order everywhere in the config.

We're trying to piggy back on OpenSearch to build custom RSS feeds for
certain terms, so we can use a feed aggregator to send email alerts when
there are new items. Unfortunately it's quite pointless if we can't
customize the field to sort by or see the newest items first in the feed!

Our application stack is: DSpace 4.2, Tomcat 7, Oracle Java 7, Ubuntu 14.04.

Thank you,

Alan

Re: [Dspace-tech] How to develop manually for importing an item to collection

2014-12-02 Thread Pottinger, Hardy J.
Hi, just to add to Claudia's response, you don't have to "go it alone" when
creating this SAF (Simple Archive Format) structure, there are several very
nice tools to make this task much easier. Here are two, but I'm sure there are
more:

http://georgetown-university-libraries.github.io/File-Analyzer/
https://github.com/peterdietz/SAFBuilder
File-Analyzer is very handy if you're in need of a desktop application to help
you visualize the process, SAFBuilder is a good fit if you're already in the
habit of using CSV files for working with metadata.

Hello,

the item importer expects a certain structure for the source (-s) to be
imported. The source specified must contain one directory per item. Your
/home/administrator/dspace-ingest contains the files belonging to a
single import item.

e.g. just create
/home/administrator/dspace-ingest/001
and move the files contained in
/home/administrator/dspace-ingest to
/home/administrator/dspace-ingest/001

Then run the command as you've listed it below an it should work.

Hope this helps

Re: [Dspace-tech] How to develop manually for importing an item to collection

2014-12-02 Thread Claudia Jürgen
Hello,

the item importer expects a certain structure for the source (-s) to be
imported. The source specified must contain one directory per item. Your
/home/administrator/dspace-ingest contains the files belonging to a
single import item.

e.g. just create
/home/administrator/dspace-ingest/001
and move the files contained in
/home/administrator/dspace-ingest to
/home/administrator/dspace-ingest/001

Then run the command as you've listed it below an it should work.

Hope this helps

Claudia Jürgen

[Dspace-tech] Urgent: database layer spontaneously closing connections(…)

2014-12-02 Thread Christian Völker
Hello,

the impact of this issue seems to be severe in our case:
Please have a look at this item:

compared to any other item in our DSpace, such as:

Obviously, we have lost most of the metadata for the first item during
insertion in our database!

Even required fields got lost like dc.contributor.author or dc.type. This means
that the item will not be indexed, not be shown e.g. while browsing by type or
when using faceted search. Obviously with this little metadata, it will also
hardly be visible when searching by Google.

So far I have lowered drastically the cycle of thumbnail generation, but
honestly, this is solution is neither sufficient nor satisfactory. I think
whether I should close login to avoid partial input altogether. But as I have
no idea as of how to fix the issue, it is also a tough decision to spoil our
users timetable, especially, when they have promised to fulfill a certain
amount of work until the end of the year.

My postgresql logfile looks like this:

2014-12-02 04:00:10 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 08:00:05 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 08:00:05 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 08:01:15 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 08:01:15 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 10:00:09 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 10:00:09 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 10:00:11 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 10:00:11 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 10:01:14 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 10:01:14 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 12:00:05 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 12:00:05 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 12:01:13 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection
2014-12-02 12:01:13 CET LOG: unexpected EOF on client connection

Four entries every even hour means that I have two interruptions in database
connection for each run of filter-media and itemcounter. Six such events at ten
o'clock are caused by a third batch running at that time, generate-sitemaps,
while update-discovery-index at four o'clock causes a single interruption.

I dont know exactly when this has started. I dont look to these logs routinely
and removal of old logs follows default rules. I can see now that it was at
least the case since September, but nobody ever noticed any malfunction.

Although my postgresql is in standard configuration running autovacuum
regularly, I did a manual vacuum full and a reindex database and reindex system
for the dspace database yesterday. These jobs finished fast without problems.
The snippet of the logfile above was recorded after this maintainance.

Please suggest on appropriate measures.

Thanks, Christian

Actually, looking at these error messages a bit more closely, this may
be entirely unrelated. It could be an XMLUI specific issue, rather than
a database layer issue that you are seeing.

Re: [Dspace-tech] ant fresh_ install

2014-12-02 Thread helix84
Please, don't cross-post. This question belongs only to dspace-tech.

In the first screenshot, the DB server is not listenting on the
hostname and port you specified in dspace.cfg or may be blocked by a
firewall.

In the second screenshot, it's supposed to be "ant fresh_install", not
"ant fresh_ install" (remove the space).
