If you look up the history cards for WHLO Akron, you will see that from the
time they moved from 610 to 640 they were licensed as 1 KW, DA-1, LT.? The LT
stands for Limited Time.? There is no mention of daytime only operation.? I'm
pretty sure you will find the same thing for the other stations that
Broadcasting Yearbook listed as (L-) for years.? In the power listings for
the stations in BY, they do not say anything like 5 KW-D, which would indicate
that they are licensed as a daytimer.? WJJD was listed as 50 KW, DA-1, LT for
years.

of a few of them right off, but maybe you know them already.? One of them was
finally granted full time status after the breakdown of the clears.? I am
thinking of WJJD 1160 Chicago, which was essentially a daytimer for years, but
they were a Limited Time station, meaning that they were able to stay on until

** GUATEMALA [and non]. 4055, continuing postal discussion:

Vince Ferme, Ottawa ON, replies: ``I remember when this was announced.
It likely went to the UPU as well. In this case, any competent postal
service would not accept this piece of mail.

Now, check the following links, nothing newer, so the current
situation is anybody's guess:

https://www.canadapost.ca/web/en/blogs/announcements/details.page?article=2017/10/05/guatemala=announcements=updates

https://www.canadapost.ca/web/en/blogs/announcements/details.page?article=2018/11/06/mail_and_parcel_serv=announcements=updates

Service on paper does not mean service in reality. The mailbags may
all be ending in a paper recycling facility in Guatemala City.
Regards, Vince, Ottawa, ON``

And from Leonardo Santiago, Mérida, Venezuela:

Hi Glenn, in a previous contact with Dr. Madrid at the end of 2019, he
told me the same thing; they cannot send out any postal correspondence
due to the lack of postal services in Guatemala since about a couple
of years (as far as I can remember). In fact, he sent me a scanned QSL
card instead of a printed one along various e-souvenirs for an
e-report on Radio Truth.

You also asked if there was another country in the world with a
similar situation, and I wanted to add my country. Venezuela is facing
a similar problem with the national public postal service known as
IPOSTEL, standing for Instituto Postal Telegráfico.

It happens that they are unable to send letters and packages out, but
they are handing out what enters to the country only. According to
them, it is due to the lack of transport, car parts and lack of
gasoline (this is what they have told me in my recent visits to the
local post office).

Notwithstanding, although dxer Jorge Medina in Punto Fijo, Falcon,
told me that he was receiving some QSLs in November last year, I sadly
say that I personally haven't received anything yet, although many
QSLs and packages were announced to me via e-mail even since June the
2019.

So, just in case somebody is reporting a radio station from Venezuela
attempting a QSL verification, my recommendation is to add his e-mail
address or WhatsApp contact for a more probable answer, although many
stations can be contacted via FB or e-mail. 73s, Leonardo Santiago,
Mérida, Venezuela``

Re: [HCDX] [abdx.org] KMMJ 750 Grand Island, NE History Question & Answer

2020-03-13 Thread Kit via Hard-Core-DX
If you look up the history cards for WHLO Akron, you will see that from the
time they moved from 610 to 640 they were licensed as 1 KW, DA-1, LT.  The LT
stands for Limited Time.  There is no mention of daytime only operation.  I'm
pretty sure you will find the same thing for the other stations that
Broadcasting Yearbook listed as (L-) for years.  In the power listings for
the stations in BY, they do not say anything like 5 KW-D, which would indicate
that they are licensed as a daytimer.  WJJD was listed as 50 KW, DA-1, LT for
years.

Kit, those are licensed as daytimer.. KMMJ is licensed as limited operation..

There was a recent discussion of Limited Time stations, and there were a few
of them, some of which probably still have that authority, but I don't know if
you mean that KMMJ was different than the others for some reason.  I can think
of a few of them right off, but maybe you know them already.  One of them was
finally granted full time status after the breakdown of the clears.  I am
thinking of WJJD 1160 Chicago, which was essentially a daytimer for years, but
they were a Limited Time station, meaning that they were able to stay on until
sunset at Salt Lake City.  There were some others like that.

KMMJ-AM 750 Grand Island, NE is licensed as “Limited Hours” and I was curious
what exactly this meant. I inquired, a search of FCC History/Archived Records
was made and yielded this answer:

Way back on September 19, 1968, KMMJ was issued a telegram for presunrise
authority to commence operation with its licensed facilities at the local
sunrise time of cochannel station WSB, Atlanta.  The authority was conditioned
subject to the outcome of a rulemaking proceeding (Dockets 17562, 18023, and
18036) relating to the “status of Class II stations [here KMMJ] assigned to US
I-A clear channels.”

Ultimately, the Commission settled on a 500 watt limitation on presunrise
operation nationwide.  That was less than KMMJ’s regular operating power (10.5
kW directional away from WSB).   It appears too that WSB opposed letting KMMJ
keep the higher power presunrise authority (see paragraphs 31 and 32 at
https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/FCC-69-844A1.pdf , July 29, 1969).

The solution the staff came up with was to issue the license for KMMJ with
“limited time” of operation.  In effect that replaced operation of the 500 watt
presunrise limit applicable elsewhere in the country.  See the Memorandum of
June 12, 1974:
https://apps2int.fcc.gov/admin/api/download/attachment/25076f9170b21d4a0170bfdedcc90169
 .

The changes on the license were included on the next renewal of license
authorization (BR-676, dated May 20, 1977).  The changes made KMMJ into a
“Limited Hours” station and specified the on-air times.  As a practical matter,
however, KMMJ continued to operate unchanged.    (This is the origin of the
comment in the AM Query:  LIMITED TIME OPERATION: SEE BR-676, MAY 20, 1977.)
BR-676:
https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/dataentry/api/download/attachment/25076f9170b21d4a0170c009b0480176

KMMJ is still licensed to operate in this manner.
It is likely that there is no other station in the country licensed in this
manner.

Minulle saapui tämä viesti viime yön aikana, lähetin viestin
postituslistalle liiteineen 6.3., comments? Myytävien tarvikkeiden
tilanne voi olla eri kuin 6.3.?

Saman sisältöinen "viesti" meni 6.3. myös UTE- foorumille:

Raimo Karjalainen kirjoitti 6.3.2020 21:30:

Jyväskylän SA- kaupan myymälässä on pitkästä aikaa muutama kela,
joissa jonkin verran parikaapelia, ei varmaankaan täyttä 500 metriä.
Kelojen hinnat 25 €/ kela. Samalla hyllyllä on myös kelaus/
kantolaitteita, hintaan 25 €/ laite.
