[DX-CHAT] Size of Yaesu FT-1000 MP ??

2005-04-02 Thread James Nipper

I have the FT-1000 MP, but right now it is at a vacation location. I
am trying to fine a suitable box or case to transport it in, and I don't even
have my manual to see the specs.

If anyone here has this rig, I would appreciate it very much if you would
measure it for H/ W/ D so that I could find a suitable box in which
to transport it back and forth.

Also, if anyone has any good ideas of what box, suitcase, or other
carrier (as small as possible) that the FT-1000 would fit in, I would
appreciate it very much.

Thanks !!!

[DX-CHAT] GD4UOL or G4UOL email address?

2005-04-02 Thread Bill Barr

Does anyone have a good email address for Steve,
G4UOL? The addresses shown in QRZ.com and Buckmaster are different, but
neither is good. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Once you get your dimensions, look up this link for just the right case.
It is excellent for travel. It is rugged, watertight and foam filled. Lots
of choices.

If u want the best, and why not for an MP? get a Pelican case. But it the
item is going out of ur hands, have at least two inches of closed cel foam
around it (the white stuff, but not peanuts) in all dimensions regardless
of where it goes. Also, maybe u can purchase an original box from a former
owner or even Yaesu.
My Mark 5 is 16 X 16 X 7 including knobs, but u gotta allow beyond that, of
course.

2005-04-02 Thread Paul Playford
We used Pelican cases (with Pelican provided foam inserts) on FT-1000MP's
that were shipped to the Maldives. The radios move around a lot in those
cases. One radio's RF connectors were pushed in and another radio's tuning
knob assembly was pushed in. The tuning knob broke the printed circuit
board in several places (I think it was 4 breaks but it's been a long time).

I am preparing a Pelican case for my Alpha 76A and among other things there
will be a padded wooden panel with cutouts to fit over the knobs and buttons
to protect the front panel controls and another padded wooden panel with
similar cutouts to protect the connectors there. Of course the power
transformer and tubes will be removed during transit.

Remember the ape that used to demonstrate the ruggedness of luggage on
television? That ape is alive and well and works at every airport in the
world as a baggage handler.
