If you are not aware, at least on my keyboard, you can print a Ø by holding down the ALT key and typing on the number keyboard 0216. That is ALT0216, as in NØMLW/KHØ.

No real problem, we all understood what you were saying.

2003-09-24 Thread Htorr

I agree. Sounds too political to me.

 Tom Orr, W6HT

Charles,Without further information on why the entity formerly known as Burma is nowknown by another name, I don't follow how your logic. Some countries, or if you prefer DXCC entities, have been renamed to reflecttheir traditional or "native" name (ie many of the JA entities) rather thana name dating back to a colonial power. We don't say "Ceylon" anymore, wesay "Sri Lanka;" we no longer have "South West Africa," we have "Namibia;"to say nothing of "Rhodesia" becoming "Zimbabwe." I could come up with manyother examples, but I trust you see the point.Yes, the current government has changed the name of the country severalyears ago. But I fail to follow the logic that says that we must refer tothe country by the old name if we love democracy. For all we know, theycorrected an old injustice, and that correction will remain in place afterthe next change of government. What's next? A suggestion that we reactivate Tibet as a separate entity insupport of the Dalai Lama? No, I say leave things be. The name of the entity is what the rulinggovernment says it is. No one says we individually or collectively have tolike that particular government.Besides... how many amateurs still refer to the entity as "Burma" instead of"Myanmar?" I'll bet that a lot never knew... or cared.73, ron wn3vaw46th Annual Pennsylvania QSO Party October 11 12!www.nittany-arc.org/paqso.htmlLook for N3SH - Allegheny County, WA3SH - Fayette County, and NP2SH -- USVirgin Islands! For more information see www.washarc.org- Original Message -From: "Charles Harpole" [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2003 7:42 PMSubject: [DX-CHAT] Burma nameWith the duely elected leader of Burma now held and perhaps injured, it ispast time for we hams to call that nation by the name she prefers, BURMA.DXCC or anyone else calling it anything else is a slap in the face to loversof freedom and democrary everywhere.73Charles Harpole[EMAIL PROTECTED]_High-speed Internet access as low as $29.95/month (depending on the localservice providers in your area). That is rather interesting as the letters "I E" with a smaller space between the I and E mean "C" in the old American Morse.

 Tom Orr, W6HT

The long established practice for checking a frequency on cw is to send the letters I EPerhaps one of the really OTs can provide the history for this. The letter C in response means "yes."73, Steve WB6RSESubscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-chatTo post a message, DX related items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED]This is the DX-CHAT reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

I don't know. It sort of reminds me of the "I want it all now" mentality that is rather prevalent today. I have seen some fairly young extra class licenses --- some much younger than 12 years old.

There was a time when you had to be licensed for one year before you could become a class A (Advanced Class), or two years before the Extra Class. I got hit by the first one (class A) because I lacked less than two months before I was eligible to take the exam for class A. I don't remember anybody feeling sorry for me because I could not get on 20 or 75 phone.

Perhaps I should have written 'not (then)' instead of "not (yet)".
Sorry for the confusion.

I can't help but wonder if he could copy 40 wpm and had a general class

It sounds like Timor Leste is East Timor in another language.

I undestand that name change does not make it a new entity as long as everything else stays the same --- Ceylon vs SriLanka, Burma vs Myanmar, etc.
