Hello Joe, The big project is up and going I will let you know in few days the final decision, but at this point it is a fact.
You have made a very interesting comment and I quote you " providing better ways to handle DX sign-ups", you are absolutely right, last December, and to satisfied the many petitions I have received to upload my logs to LOTW, I decided to go ahead and try to register but after the initial steps I found out that the process was not as simple as it should be, for starters it requires DX stations to hard mal copies of some documents, wait for an approval etc..., I contacted the ARRL and try to explain them that 100% Internet registration should be available for DX stations but their answer that is not possible, so my decisions is that I will not register as a LOTW user until registration is simplified and I can do it all via Internet/email, the use of regular mail, as unsafe as it is out side the US and some European countries, should be a secondary option for those without access to internet services, and primary registration method should be Internet/email, LOTW is not more important than my bank transactions and I do them online, I paid my utility bills, loans, taxes...and much more via Internet, I expect the same for my hobby, I expect ARRL to make LOTW registration a less cumbersome process, to make it simple. I know that the main concern is license forgery, but since what you will sent to the ARRL is just a photocopy of it, how say you are not sending a copy of a forged license? So why not jut accept and scanned image sent via email? I feel more secure emailing a copy of my license than sending it via regular postal services. I have been in the computer business since 1976, 40 years, and I know that the purpose of any system such as LOTW should be to make things easy for the end users, not to make it so complicate that you simply drive potential users from it. 73/DX Jose M. Bud, Maybe if they had used the system and experienced the frustrations you complain about, they would have approved the resources necessary to fix those problems! 99 and 44/100th percent of the complaints about LotW could be resolved by fixing software problems, improving the end-user documentation, increased marketing/awareness of LotW domestically and internationally and providing better ways to handle DX sign-ups. ARRL Officials & Officers should be supporting/promoting LotW as much as they are out there talking about Spectrum Defense, "the Big Idea," and other programs. To "dis" their own product does not set a very good example. 73, ...
