[DX-CHAT] Fuel Pump Noise

2006-06-16 Thread Steve-KF2TI
Good afternoon, since losing the Jeep (15 mpg) for a Subaru Wagon
(28+ mpg), I hve reinstalled my setup:

Icom 706/turbo tuner/Little Targheel antenna (using Tri-Magnet
mounts..I had to, no place to mount antenna brackets and I don't like
those ball mount thingies, as the car washes keep yanking them off)

What I would like is some advise as I have definte fuel pump noise,
primarily on 20 meters about every 3-4 kc about S4 that goes away
when you turn off the engine

K2BJ's site is down or off completely and he had some great ideas
posted there. I went to K0BG's site and he mentions fuel pumps but
oiffers no fix (unless I missed it)

Anyone have experience in either eliminating or reducing fuel pump
noise..short of getting another car that is

Thanks

Steve KF2TI

Steve, the RFI reflector at Contesting.org recently had a thread on this topic.
http://www.contesting.com/FAQ/rfi . [Not so recently; I just checked. See next
PP.]

[Saved you some searching. Here's a summation of fuel pump noise topics:
http://lists.contesting.com/archives//cgi-bin/namazu.cgi?query=fuel+pumpsubmit=Search%21idxname=RFImax=20result=normalsort=score

Nothing specific on Subaru, but it'll give you some ideas or maybe you can join
the reflector and ask.]

I'd go back to the Jeep. My Grand Cherokee gets up to 23 mpg, no RFI. Too many
front end problems with Subarus with which I have been associated; offsets the
savings on gas. X;{
