[DX-NEWS] DX Marathon Update-21Dec2007

2007-12-20 Thread John, K9EL

RE: [DX-NEWS] Special event callsign 4U1WED and 4U30VIC by 4U1VIC

For anyone chasing countries in the CQ 2009 DX Marathon, the ITU Vienna
International Center counts as a separate country. 4U1WED, 4U30VIC and
4U1VIC all count for this entity in the Marathon.

[DX-NEWS] 2009 CQ DX Marathon - Important Information!

2010-01-10 Thread John, K9EL

Submissions for the 2009 edition of CQ Magazine's DX Marathon will be
accepted until January 31, 2010. All participants are urged to review
their scoresheets carefully as many submissions already received have zone
errors, especially with regards to Zone 2. Please also watch submissions
for Zones 3,4,5 as the prefix for US stations is not necessarily an
indication of the actual station's location. Please check the zone
carefully for any Antarctica QSOs as well.

The DX Marathon website (www.dxmarathon.com) provides details on countries
and zones, including a special page just for Zone 2 stations. If errors
are discovered, revised scoresheets may be submitted until January 31st.

The callsigns of submitted logs will be posted on the DX Marathon web site
and updated on a regular basis until January 31st. High claimed scores will
be posted after January 31st.

2010-09-17 Thread John, K9EL
DX Marathon Update, September 2010 - Just a few months left to build your
country count for the 2010 DX Marathon sponsored by CQ Magazine. In
addition to the two plaques for the winner in each category, attractive
certificates are awarded for the top score per country, top score per single
mode submission, top score per single band submission and top low power (10
watts or less) score.Certificate winners and their scores for the 2006
through 2009 Marathons are listed on the DX Marathon website (
www.dxmarathon.com ).The DX Marathon
website now includes helpful hints to avoid common errors and also includes
a list of known pirate stations that will not likely count for the 2010
Marathon. In addition, the DX Marathon scoresheet is now available as a
template on Google Docs which eliminates any need to have Excel or
equivalent on your computer. Updates for the DX Marathon due to the

[DX-NEWS] CQ DX Marathon Update, October 2010

2010-10-16 Thread John, K9EL
DX Marathon Update, October 2010 - As recently announced by CQ Magazine,
Competitors in the 2010 CQ DX Marathon will have a unique "double-dip"
opportunity in working the islands of the Netherlands Antilles for Marathon
points. Those who worked any of the islands before 10/10/10, get credit for
either the Windward or Leeward Islands, as appropriate. Hams who work them
again on or after 10/10/10 will get additional credit for the new entities,
providing a maximum of six country credits for working the islands in 2010.
Version 2010.2 of the DX Marathon scoresheet that incorporates the four new
PJ countries is now available on the DX Marathon website: www.dxmarathon.com
Instructions to convert version to 2010.1 to
the new 2010.2 are available on the website. However, participants can
also send their existing scoresheet to
sco...@dxmarathon.com and we will convert it and send it back to you.

Congratulations to the team which helped to reintroduce
Amateur Radio to Kosovo, and welcome back to the
airwaves to the returning Hams.
As of this time Z6ØK, and/or any other Z6 station, will not
count for any entity for DXCC awards purposes as they do
not qualify under the DXCC rules. Any future change in
Kosovo's DXCC status will be announced by ARRL.

[DX-NEWS] DX Marathon Update

2013-01-08 Thread John, K9EL
DX Marathon Update - January 2013

The 2012 DX Marathon ended at January 1, 2013 and the 2013 Marathon
began immediately! Yes, everyone's country and zone count reset to Zero
and the race for the most countries and CQ zones for 2013 is underway.

Everyone can participate in the Marathon - details and complete rules are
available at www.dxmarathon.com <http://www.dxmarathon.com/> .

The deadline for submission of 2012 logs is January 31, 2013. We know an
earlier date was published, so the date was extended to avoid any confusion.
Next year's deadline will be January 10, 2014.

To submit your score, use the latest Marathon Score Sheet (2012.5) that can
be downloaded from the DX Marathon website. If you use computer logging,
see the website for links to tools that simplify the submission process.
Please note if you are using the ADIF to DX Marathon tool created by Jim,
AD1C, make sure you are using the latest version. The tool changes each
year in response to DX Marathon changes.

Double-check your submission for errors, making sure all information is
filled out at the top of the form, BAND data was used instead of frequencies
and MODE is either CW, Phone or Digital. SSB is also accepted. If you are
entering in Formula Class, be sure to include a detailed description of your
antenna. And don't forget to add your comments on the Marathon at the end
of the form.

The Marathon offers special awards for single mode and single band
submissions. Simply enter only QSO's for a particular band or mode and the
computer will classify your submission accordingly.

The DX Marathon website offers additional information on pirates and other
helpful hints. If you have questions, feel free to contact me at
j...@dxmarathon.com.

Once your submission has been computer validated for all required
information and proper formatting, your callsign will be listed on the
received logs page on the DX Marathon website.

High claimed scores will be published in February and the complete results
of the 2012 Marathon will be in the June 2013 issue of CQ Magazine.

[DX-NEWS] FS/K9EL

2005-01-23 Thread John, K9EL

Hi!

I plan to operate FS/K9EL from 16-26
February 2005.   I will be on holiday with my family, but they are
very understanding of my need to be on the radio!   I will be active
during the ARRL DX CW Contest to hand out multipliers, but not a serious
entry.  I will be using a vertical for 10/12/15/17/20 meters and will
string some wires for 30/40 and if possible 80 as well.  160m operation
very unlikely.  100w, no amplifier.  No PSK or RTTY. QSL
home call.  Skeds are OK via email - [EMAIL PROTECTED]

For publication in your DX bulletins if you
choose!

I will be operating as FS/K9EL from November 30 through

and vertical antennas for 10 through 80 meters.  No PSK or
RTTY.   160m operation unlikely.  QSL to home call.
Skeds are OK - see QRZ.COM for email address.   All QSLs
received to date, including bureau cards, from my last FS operation have been
answered.

[DX-NEWS] CQ DX Marathon Web Site

2006-03-21 Thread John, K9EL

The CQ Magazine DX Marathon is a
cross between an award and a contest. It runs for a full year at a time, with
competitors trying to contact as many countries and CQ zones as possible within
the year. There are no carryovers from year to year, however, and everyone
starts fresh each New Year's Day.
The year-long DXing competition began on January 1.
A new Web site has been established and dedicated to the DX Marathon - www.dxmarathon.com
Please check it out and let us know what you would like to see on the web
site. We will publish your stories and your accomplishments. Send us your score
to date and we publish it. You will also find the complete CQ Countries list in
various formats.
Good luck!

John
