[DX-News] Alternate to OH2AQ
When DX Summit (OH2AQ) is down, the JA cluster at http://www.dxscape.com/ is an excellent alternative. 73, John, NT5C -- Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems, etc DX-NEWS http://njdxa.org/dx-news DX-CHAT: http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40njdxa.org --
[DX-News] Who was he?
There was an interesting station on 40M SSB long path this morning, but I couldn't figure out his callsign. He was quite loud on 7070 around 1330Z, speaking Russian, running a big pile of mostly European Russians, and his suffix was **9AM. I'm virtually certain that the first letter of his prefix was not R or U which I would have recognized (i.e. it wasn't RX9AM or UA9AM or anything like that). Any ideas? Did I miss a potential new band-country? 73, John, NT5C. -- Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems, etc DX-NEWS http://njdxa.org/dx-news DX-CHAT: http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40njdxa.org --
[DX-News] YIs in ARRL/SSB Contest?
Does anyone have a way of asking some of our American service folks in Iraq to try 40M SSB around their sunrise (0322Z) on March 6/7 for the ARRL DX contest? Of course, they might have other things on their minds. Bob W8HGH wrote: Can anybody tell me if FR5DX responds to requests for QSLs? Have heard that some folks have seen his card. He sure does - but it pays to do something a bit unusual. Some years ago I worked Herik on the low bands, and found out that he was thinking about buying a new rig. I airmailed my QSL with the latest ICOM, Kenwood and Yaesu brochures (plus 10FF), and received his QSL back in about 10 days. GL! I have been trying to contact Gene EZ8BO by e-mail. Unfortunately, both addresses which I was given have failed (undeliverable): [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Does anyone have any better info? [DX-NEWS] Swain's Island
Re the news release from Kan JA1BK about KH8SI, which was just distributed by The Daily DX. Kan JA1BK sure knows how to make friends and influence people! If he feels so strongly that the facts support his case for American Samoa KH8 gaining IARU membership, why doesn't he go back to ARRL with supporting documentation and ask for the issue to be re-visited? Insulting Dave Sumner and the ARRL Board doesn't seem like a very productive way to proceed. That will just guarantee it won't happen, and hence KH8SI won't count for a new one. Note DXCC Rule Section I, Item #13, (d): Each applicant agrees to be bound by the decisions of the ARRL Awards Committee. It's their baby Kan! [DX-NEWS] The Hammurabi Net
I'm still looking for someone in Iraq who is interested in trying some skeds on 40M SSB. David YI9QWO has left the country, and Korey YI9VCQ is just about to. Korey suggested that I get in contact with the Hammurabi Net of American hams (military, contractors and civilian) based in Iraq. They meet every Tuesday at 1500Z on 7048 (too late for Texas on LP, hi! - but clearly they have 40M SSB capability). Does anyone have any leads about who is active on that net, and especially any of their currently usable e-mail addresses? Haven't been able to track down that info on Yahoo. Please reply directly. Kurt W2MW wrote: Just an FYI... I'm not impressed with the CW operation especially on 30m. Spots were poor on the cluster and there was no idea where he was listening. I sensed from quite a number of CW operators on the cluster their same frustration spending way too much time trying to find out where to transmit. H - I thought that was called DXing?? [DX-NEWS] 3C0M on Low Bands
Still no low-band operation by Elmo 3C0M. Seems to QRT around 2230-2330Z every evening. and not QRV until well after his sunrise next day. Perhaps power is switched off at night? Any info Europe? Central USA has a good 40M opening to W Africa from around 2230Z, well before our sunset, until 0200Z+. Too bad if Elmo can't stay on at least that long. [DX-NEWS] ZD7X visit to ZD9X
I have drawn a blank re getting an answer from Tom ZD7X (or from his manager Laurent W0MM) about Tom's upcoming trip to ZD9X. I assume it's still on? I'd just like to know more about Tom's low-band plans there, and to encourage him to try 40M, which I think could very well have the best propagation Stateside. I wonder if Tristan has power 24 hours per day, especially thro' USA evenings? Anyone have more info about this trip?
