Re: [DX-NEWS] Does anybody In Moldova QSL?

2002-09-22 Thread KIR

Until two weeks ago I was asking the same questions. In my case I worked 5
ER stations in the last 9 months with negative results. However, In the last
14 days I received 3 ER cards including ER1QQ and ER4DX. I each case I had
sent direct with an IRC. The lesson for me was patience. Hang in there. If
you re-send consider sending an IRC instead of a GS.

Hi folks,

OK, I'll admit sometimes I'm not the most patient guy in the world when it
comes to QSLing, but I'm really starting to wonder if anybody in Moldova
QSLs. Within the last year I've sent direct requests to 4 stations, and
re-sent to two. All had a GS--one went with two--plus an SAE in all and
every one was sent in a business-envelope with either plain 80-cent stamps
or post office meter stickers. I've tried to protect each mailing from
prying eyes along the way, but I have no knowledge if any of the cards get
through. The most recent one was 3 months ago, but a couple were from last
fall and mid-winter.

Has anybody ever had succeeded in getting cards from ER1QQ, ER1ZZ or
ER4DX? I hear ER1QQ on regularly, and a couple of times I've tried to ask
him if my cards have gotten to him, but all he ever says is QSL via
QRZ.COM (I suspect he doesn't understand my request, and I regret that my
only spoken language is English, alas). I'm about to try once more using
local mint stamps instead of GS's, but I was wondering if it's worth the
effort.

And on the same topic, any word on SSB cards from PW0T, K1B or CY9DH yet?

Thanks in advance.

ER1LW took 3 months for a card in 2001

ER1QQ sent one card on 3-9-02 and one on 3-31-02 and nothing yet.

ER4DX sent card on 2-7-01 for 3 Q's and nothing yet.

Yeah, and I was likely one of 'em. Like I said...it's nice to be able to
afford a killer signal like that, eh?

I think I'll try a couple of other ER's when I hear them (ones mentioned in
earlier posts), and see if I have better luck. I need 13 more entities
confirmed for 200, so I'm trying to clear up loose ends. I have about 18
worked but not conformed, and most I suspect will be in within a couple of
months. It's just the ones that have been on the list for over 6 months
that I'm trying to get. A6 and ZP are the other two entities that I'm
urgently trying to get a card out of.

spotted and told me about the BIG grammar error in OPDX.578. Probably
this error was caused by my hurry to finish OPDX.578 Sunday morning so
I could attend the Cleveland Indian's game that afternoon. The surprising
thing was that it got by the Chief Proof-reader (Linda, my wife and
teacher). Well, I can't blame her. She was editing the bulletin during
the game (and this was not the first time she did it at a Tribe game)!
Talk about dedication...

14.325 EMERGENCY NET. Charles Harpole, K4VUD, wants to remind everyone
that the USA Hurricane Watch Net is now active on 14.325 kHz handling
potential emergency messages. A clear frequency will be very helpful
during this important net.

7Q, MALAWI. Ely, IN3VZE, will be active as 7Q7CE from September 22nd
through October 8th. Activity will be on the HF bands, including the
WARC bands on SSB. QSL via his home callsign IN3VZE to the ARI Bureau
or direct to: Ely Camin, C.SO Tre Novembre 136/2, I 38100 Trento ITALY.

8P, BARBADOS. Dave/NT1N and Jim/W1UK will operate from here in the CQWW
SSB Contest as Multi/Single entry. Callsign is not known yet, and they
will be active before and after the contest (October 24-25th, and 28th).

9H, MALTA (IOTA Op). Gerd/DJ4KW and Gisela/DK9GG will be active from Gozo
Island (EU-023) between September 26th and October 8th. They are expected
to sign DJ4KW/p and DK9GG/p. Activity will be on CW and the digital modes.
QSL via their home callsigns.

9K, KUWAIT. John, W4NU, has been here since July and has been active
as W4NU/9K2. He only operates on Sundays (usually two Sundays per month
due to his job demands). John can usually be found after 1800z on/around
21250 kHz until about 2300z before moving onto 20 meters (14200 kHz) as
the band opens up to North America. He will be here until at least the
first of the new year. His QSL Manager is Nancy, NK4U.

C6, BAHAMAS. A five man team from the Magnolia DX Association will be
active from Treasure Cay, Abaco Island (IOTA NA-080) in the Bahamas
from October 21-28th. They will be participating in the CQWW SSB Contest
in the new Multi-2 catagory using the callsign C6ARB. Team members will
be active the week before the contest as homecall/C6A on 160-10 meters,
CW and SSB. Team members are: Randy/W5UE, Stan/K5NY, Bernie/KK5EW,
Joe/N5ID and Terry/W8JE. QSLs for C6ARB are via W5UE, and individual
team member activity are via their home callsigns.

C9, MOZAMBIQUE. By the time you read this, Babs/DL7AFS and Lot/DJ7ZG
should be active from here for the next two weeks as C98DC. They arrived
in Maputo on September 20th and were expected to head towards Bazaruto
Island (AF-072) in northern Mozambque. Activity will be SSB on the usual
DX frequencies and also on RTTY/PSK31 (watch 18101 kHz). QSL via DL7AFS.

Pete and all,

I apologize for my hitting the wrong button...did NOT mean to send to
all...I have been counting recently and that was the 34th QSL related
subject in the last 33 daysOne of the reasons I joined this list was
because it was quiet and had a FAQ that laid all the rules out. I don't
want to see QSL information that the owners have said belongs on the QSL
reflector and I over reacted. The mistake was mine and I apologize.

Doug,

It was and is not my intention to violate any long-standing rules
established on this list, but I think a politely-worded private note to me
might have served a better purpose. With a zillion DX forums in existence,
I chose this one as a good source of wisdom from the assembled multitude,
and the most likely source for an authoritative answer to my query. I
sought the wisdom of serious and long-time DXers and QSLers, and frankly
this forum is the alpha-list thereof from what I've read in the few weeks
I've been subscribed. I've always held that the best way to achieve success
at something is to listen to the wisdom from those that have already
achieved the success you seek. Hence the reason for my question here.

It honestly wasn't my intention to get on your--or anybody elses'--nerves.
I didn't even know of the existence of a QSL-specific list, or whether its
denizens are as well seasoned and knowledgeable as those here. Flaming or
publicly chastising isn't the way to Win Friends and Influence People, and
is consequently the reason I'm keeping this on e-mail rather than posting
to the list.

With all that said, I found the discussion that took place was extremely
enlightening and I received many answers to a question that has been
bothering me since this time last year, when I first took to the HF bands
again after a 22-year absence. If holding to protocol on a low-traffic
mailing list is more invigorating to you than helping a relatively-new DXer
out, then it's obvious where your priorities lie, and I feel sorry for you.
Really. In every endeavour I've undertaken in my 41 years, I've always
strived to help out those who are less savvy than I in a particular field
with positive words and actions. That you choose to demean, even in a
roundabout way, speaks volumes.

Somebody do my work for me and tell me what the QSL route is.
Apparently it was not
important enough to them to get the right information when the contact was
made.

Oh, and for the record, if you bothered to read my initial post and the
follow-ups thereto, you would know that wasn't the case. I *do* listen to
the DX's instructions. I use the 'net to find routes to even the most
difficult stations and rarely do I encounter problems. In this case, the
instructions from, several stations were QSL via QRZ.com and the DX
repeatedly stated QSL 100%. Fine. I took those words to heart, looked up
their addresses as instructed and sent a number of cards, SAE's and GS's,
only to get no reply. I'm likely not close to your level of DX success (I'm
sure you're honor role, 5B-WAZ, 5B DXCC and everything else), but to me
getting one more new one still means something, even from a relatively
easy country to work like Moldova. When numerous attempts--following
established protocols and the DX's rules--failed, I turned to this forum to
see if those more experienced that I had encountered the same problems, and
evidently they have. Therefore the harm being, what exactly???

Not just that, I'd love to see a list posted somewhere of known deadbeat
QSLers so folks like myself could save a few GS's or IRCs and go after
those who legitimately play radio in a fair and just manner.

we can always bother 1800 members and someone out of that group
will do the work for them. Steve and Urb both have preached till they are
blue in the face about this and it goes on and on...

I agree. How about providing a route to the QSL reflector so that those who
need to can sign in there.

It
has been pointed out on numerous occasions that this is NOT the QSL
reflector. It's like talking to the concrete sidewalk.

I've always held that the best way to achieve
success
at something is to listen to the wisdom from those that have already
achieved the success you seek.

If holding to protocol on a low-traffic
mailing list is more invigorating to you than helping a relatively-new
DXer
out, then it's obvious where your priorities lie, and I feel sorry for
you.
Really. In every endeavour I've undertaken in my 41 years, I've always
strived to help out those who are less savvy than I in a particular field
with positive words and actions. That you choose to demean, even in a
 roundabout way, speaks volumes.

Somebody do my work for me and tell me what the QSL route is.
 Apparently it was not
important enough to them to get the right information when the contact
was

I'm likely not close to your level of DX success
(I'm
sure you're honor role, 5B-WAZ, 5B DXCC and everything else), but to me
getting one more new one still means something, even from a relatively
easy country to work like Moldova. When numerous attempts--following
established protocols and the DX's rules--failed, I turned to this forum
to
see if those more experienced that I had encountered the same problems,
and
evidently they have.

Its like that STOP sign at the end of the street. Stop only means slow
down
as you downshift around the corner. We make our own rules as we go along.
Screw everyone else as long as I get mine.

[DX-NEWS] Here it is

2002-09-22 Thread Steve-KF2TI

The premier reflector for QSL information can be found at:

http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx-qsl

It is the one of the best resources for QSL information,

BUT wait there's more

A great resource is the GoLIST, now available in a 32 bit windows
format called GoWIN

http://golist.net/

OR

A great resource run by Kurt Brandsetter of Vienna, Austria
(excellent site)

http://members.chello.at/kurt.brandstetter/Page8/page8.htm

OR

A great site whereby you enter in a callsign and it checks multiple
callbooks at a single time...

http://www.ampr.spb.ru/multi/index.html

OR

Another great multiple check site called PATHFINDER

http://www.qsl.net/pathfinder/WebClient/WebClientControl.htm

These are all great resources and I can honestly say that all can
produce great results and should be the 1st place(s) that are
checked.

On behalf of the NJDXA, thank you for the kind words that have been
mentioned in the various posts. WEe have worked hard and continue to
work hard to maintain a truly unique DX'ing tool amongst the many
available.

Your comments and opinions are encouraged DIRECT (hint hint) to
either Urb or myself.

I am asking that Urb put the above links on the DXR webpage for handy
reference. A number of them can already be found on the NJDXA main
webpage

http://www.njdxa.org/links.html

IF!!! you have others, please send them to ME and I will compile
them, publish them and them have them linked to the DXR webpage

Thanks for helping make the DXR the #1 DX reflector.
