[DX-NEWS] I.C.P.O. Bulletin (coverage: Aug 20 - Sep 20, 2003)
I.C.P.O. Bulletin (coverage: Aug 20 - Sep 20, 2003) Islands, Castles & Portable Operations - "I.C.P.O." Operations are listed by start date (Day/Month/Year) = 20/08/2003: Look for I0NNZ, IZ0EAC and I0EUQ to be active as IA5/IQ0VT from Pianosa Island (IOTA EU-028, IIA LI-016) between August 20th and 24th. QSL via operator's instructions. [Tnx 425DXN] 20/08/2003: Look for Mario, IZ8DBJ/p, to be QRV August 20th to 31st from the lighthouse at San Vito lo Capo (WAIL SI-026, ARLHS ITA-155). QSL via home call, direct (Mario Pesce, P.O. Box 15, 80070 Bacoli - NA, Italy) or bureau. [Tnx 425DXN] 20/08/2003: Based on information from Alexej, UA1PAC, starting from August 20th (weather conditions permitting) RM1P will be QRV from Mestnyj Island (RR-06-29 New One). QSL via operator's instructions. [Tnx WRC/RRA Bulletin] 21/08/2003: Ewald, 9A5ID/p, plans to visit the island of Oruda (IOTA EU-136, IOCA CI-080) and activate that island August 21st OR August 22nd. His boat will land on Vele Orjule and Ilovik island after Oruda island and we expect his activity from the island of Vele Orjule (CI-137, EU-136) also. He promised to be QRV on 40 and 20 meters. QSL via home call, direct or bureau. [Tnx DE0MST] 21/08/2003: Aniko, 9A/HA5TAA, and Feri, 9A/HA5AZZ, will spend their holiday at Rogoznica area (mainland) between August 21st and 30th. They plan to acitivate some Croatian islands - Smokvica (IOTA EU-170, IOCA CI-212) and Jaz (Not IOTA, IOCA CI-460), for the first time. QSL via home calls, direct or bureau. [Tnx 9A6AA] 22/08/2003: Ewald, 9A5ID/p, and Emir, 9A6AA/p, plan to activate the island of Palacol (IOTA EU-136, IOCA CI-284), for the first time, between August 22nd and 23rd. QSL via home calls, direct or bureau. [Tnx DE0MST] 22/08/2003: Glyn, GW0ANA, reports that many Amateur Radio operators may be aware of the significance of Flatholm Island (EU-124) located in the Bristol Channel in the UK. The island has a very historic link in connection with our hobby as it was used by Marconi when he demonstrated to the British Post Office that his theory that radio waves would travel across water. He made the link via radio from Lavernock Point in south Wales to the island on Thursday, May 13th 1897. To pay homage to Marconi, the Barry Amateur Radio Society (South Wales) erected a monument on the island and each year make an annual visit to operate a special event station using the callsign GB5FI (Flatholm Island). This years'visit will take place between Friday, August 22nd and Wednesday, August 27th. The society will activate this very rare WAB square ST26 and operate mainly on the amateur HF bands to follow in the footsteps of the historic event. This year they also plan to operate via satellite using AO-40 and also Oscar 14 (subject to access in the short pass time). Their priority will be mainly SSB operation, but they may operate on the digital or SSTV modes. This is a very rare opportunity to add to your QSL card collection a MARCONI EXperiment location, Flatholm Island, via satellite! This operation will also count for Flatholm Lighthouse (WLA LH-0007, ARLHS WAL-006). QSL via GW0ANA direct CBA or via the Bureau is no problem. [Tnx OPDX] 22/08/2003: Look for Mac, K7LMM/p, to be QRV August 22nd to 24th from Fremont Island (USI UT-003L, Box Elder county), Utah. Tentative operating times: 22-23 August 18:00 UTC to 04:00 UTC, 23-24 August 14:00 UTC to 04:00 UTC and 24 August 14:00 UTC to 18:00 UTC. Activity will be on 20 and 40 meter CW, SSB. Weather may force us to operate from Antelope Isladn (UT-001L, Davis county), Utah. QSL via home call, direct or bureau. [Tnx USI] 22/08/2003: Look for Jakob, OZ7AEI/p, to operate on 20 and 40 meters from the following islands (all count for EU-029) and lighthouses between August 22nd and 24th: Eno (DIA SJ-028), Ore (ARLHS DEN-122) on Sjaelland (SJ-001), Masnedo (SJ-023), Orehoved (DEN-135) on Falster (SJ-016), Lolland (SJ-015), Bogo (DEN-138 and SJ-023), Mon (DEN-025 and SJ-017), Nyord (SJ-026), Gavno (SJ-027) and Glaeno (SJ-013). QSL via home call, direct or bureau. [Tnx 425DXN] 22/08/2003: In honor of 10th Aniversary of the RRC Foundation, Gen RU3BY (ex UA6LGW), Toly UA6NY, Max UA6LGR and Ivan UA6MF will be QRV August 22nd and 28th from Chechen' Island (RRA New One RR-18-07, RDA DA-01) and Chechenskij lighthouse (RLHA New One, ARLHS ERU-293), and, possible, from Tyuleniy Island (RRA RR-1801, RDA DA-30) and Tyuleniy lighthouse (RLHA New One). Possible calls: RI6WCI, UE6WTI and R3RRC/6. Also, it's possible they will use homecalls/6. Activity will be on 40 through 10 meter CW and SSB, with 2 stations. QSL via operator's instructions. [Tnx WRC/RRA Bulletin] 22/08/2003: Haruki, JH9URT, will be active from Palau (OC-009) as T88HO and this will be his first DXpedition. Activity will be between August 22nd to 26th and on SSB only on all HF band and 6 meters. QSL direct to his home address below or JARL bureau. His direct

I got a card via the buro for a 10m QSO in 2000. I still have one outstanding for 80m from 2002, but I wouldn't expect a buro card back yet. You may want to try the cheap and slow route...
