[DX-NEWS] Spam protection
If anyone receives a message something like the following: I'm protecting myself from receiving junk mail. Just this once, click the link below so I can receive your emails. You won't have to do this again. http://spamarrest.com/a?48214807:38012http://spamarrest.com/a?48214807:nnn don't respond. This particular one (spamarrest.com) is on several large spam black list because they are suspected of harvesting the email addresses of people answering. In addition, I would appreciate if you would forward a copy to either Steve, Ron, or me, and we will unsubscribe the person who originated the message. I am totally against spam but there are much better ways of filtering without exposing innocent people to address harvesting. One again folks, please do not post test messages to the DX-NEWS list. There is absolutely no reason for anyone other than an administrator to post a test message. [DX-NEWS] DX-NEWS Contingency Plans.
DX-NEWS Contingency Plans. The provider hosing the DX-News reflector is have financial problems. Should the list's provider go off the air please be assured there is a contingency plan in place. Steve, KF2TI, is backing up the subscription list on a daily basis and we can have a new list set up within a few hours. If we do set up the reflector on an alternate source you will receive a welcome message as if you were just subscribing to the list. Please note the address for posting messages. The same rules will apply and the DX-Chat list will not be affected since it's already hosted by njdxa.org. Let the bickering stop, immediately. This is the dx-reflector and postings are restricted to DX items. This is an extraordinary and unprecedented time. Emotions are controlling the thought process of otherwise rational people. Emotions do need to be expressed, especially at a time like this. However, this is not the forum. Although it's not DX move the WTC topic to the DX-CHAT list if you choose to continue the discussion. One thing about this tragedy is certain. The WTC was a communications hub. All of the NY TV stations, save one, were located there. There were only three cities in the US having more telephone exchanges than the two towers. As a consequence there is not doubt hams will be disproportionately represented in the final total. In respect to those SK please refrain from personal attracts on other hams if this discussion does move to the DX-CHAT list. As of now there will be no further postings concerting the tragedy on the DX-NEWS list. Why does it take so long for a message to be posted to this List? My Hoax message took about 40 minutes from the time I sent it until it was posted, quite slow for a List of this type and activity. Matter of perspective. We are getting a free ride with this list and mail from the list is low priority. Count the number of daily messages and multiply by 2,000 and you will see we are generating a lot of traffic.
