[DX-NEWS] P5 dupes

2002-04-17 Thread kss

I understand that Ed doesn't want dupes in his log...from CYØ we had +20%
dupes from a certain countryBUT...if he gets the incorrect call
originally your DEAD !!! I was copied as JA8JOC on one DXpedition and
had to appeal to the manager to check logs again. So...if WA8JOC gets
incorrectly logged as JA8JOC originally, and JA8JOC does contact
him..he's dead in this scenario.

I would much rather log the dupes, and sort it out later...just have him
say that this is a dupe QSO...QRZ...but log it anyway. It can be filtered
by the software later.

Just my dime

[DX-NEWS] IRC's...sorry!

2002-03-11 Thread kss

Sorry guys...from a of couple of directs I received from guys that know
me well, I didn't mean to give the impression that ALL the branches were
anti-IRC. I just wanted to point out that the bunches that I sold
locally were sold for that reason...it was easier to deal with the money
than the USPO (sounds like same as Joe W3HNK

Again..sorry for the bad spin, but I guess life doesn't get simpler,
but only more efficient(?)

[DX-NEWS] Eastern Eu/misc..etc...QSL's

2002-03-05 Thread kss

Thanks to all for the info...here are my stations routings
requested...managers??
UT7QF
UY5HF
UR5GK
UT5JAJ
YU1AU

Any info would be appreciated.6 meter QSO's aren't easy with these
guys from Ohio.

Thanks for the attempts thusfar...should they be buro or direct...to what
address???

As my usual procedure, about every 6 months or so I put out the list of
stations that I handle QSL's for(it seems to work)

J52US
9L1US
9L9DXG
0H0/K8MN
0H2/K8MN
A22MN
5H3US
K8MN/OH0
K8MN/OH2
CYØAA via WD8SDLnow W8RHM

The flow seems to be constant since I'm seeing at least one to 5 QSL's
per day, and POUNDS via the buro yet. Dave's stateside activity goes via
K8MN...NOT me !

The CBA should be OK for him...it is not 5875 Cedaridge Drive for K8MN.

Thanks for the time/space

 Dear Ken,
first of all, you should check that you are using the latest version

 of DXTelnet (5.0).
This can be verified immediately by looking at the startup banner.
If your version is not the latest one, then you can upgrade it from:
 http://www.qsl.net/wd4ngb/telnet.htm
 alternate download:
 http://members.tripod.com/dxtelnet/download.htm

If DXTelnet is not able to connect to any of the listed sites then
 you
probably have a system level problem.
For example, if you recently installed a proxy server, you would
 have to
setup DXTelnet for this, otherwise no site could be connected.

Try this: launch a connection to the CQDX-IRC node.
 Does it connect?
If it does, then it is probable that some of the sites you are
 trying to
reach have changed their IP address since when the latest DXtelnet
 version was
 issued.

If this is the case, please send me a list of the clusters you're
 specially
interested in and I'll return a list of their updated ips.
Or if you have a little patience, you can wait for the next DXTelnet
 version
(coming soon) which will have lots of new clusters and IP
 corrections.

I posted this article on the reflector in case some other users had
 the same
 problems.
Ken, if you don't see this article on the reflector, please post it
 for me;
 thanks.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need help

[DX-NEWS] YA5MM QSL's from the past !!

2002-01-30 Thread kss

In a QSO earlier this evening with EY8MM, I had inquired as to
availability of QSL's from his YA5MM optn from years back. This thread
had began from a conversation of several local hams regarding the
difficulty of now, once again, having YA stations on the air and getting
QSL's with the very unstable postal situation in that recovering country.

He had QSL'd me on several bands with no problems years ago, and now he
even has a manager stateside, with a still open log for this YA optn !
K1BV has the info/QSL's according to Nodir.

He had even mentioned bringing this info to the reflector for an update
to everyone that had worked YA5MM, but still needed a QSL.

I'm sure many will benefit from this bit of info for those lost QSO's
that are really tough to get now, but which are in your logs already.
Good Luck !!

Re: [DX-NEWS] K8MN operations dates/QSL's

2002-01-17 Thread kss

This information is what stations I handle for QSL's. Please note I DO
NOT reply to any incorrect, NIL, or duplicate QSL's via buro for any of
the following stationsalong with the dates of the operations

K8MN/OH2 1985-87
K8MN/OH0 1986-87
J52US 1988-89
9L1US 1990-91
9L9DXG 1990-91
A22MN1992-95
OH2/K8MN 1995-98
OH0/K8MN 1995-98
5H3US 1998-2000

There are MANY similar calls to these but not via WA8JOC. I've tried to
correct MANY listing locations, but errors in posting still are NUMEROUS,
but I guess there are still those rogue lists out there. I can only say
that the sender should do their homework before submitting a QSL to a
manager. I personally use the DX-reflector, QSL-reflector for info in
this area inhopes of getting the CORRECT routing.

Dave's direct address is NOT mine in Cincinnati, and no cards should be
forwarded here unless a LONG delay in response is anticipated. His
address is OK in the 2001-2002 callbooks, CD's...etc... in West Virginia.

All logs are still open

[DX-NEWS] K8MN's US address

2002-01-16 Thread kss

As Dave's manager since 1985 for all of his overseas operations, he has
now come back home.  His stateside address is Dave Heil; RD5  Box 232;
Cameron, WV 26033.

This address is OK in the RAC, etc...CD-rom, and on the internet sources
that we know of. I still get his QSL's for K8MN QSO's direct to my
address. This was used originally for stateside licensing reasons but
now has changed. PLEASE be advised of the new address. The old route to
me only delay's things a while.

I completely understand the 5BDXCC pursuit... been there, done
 that !! I
guess I look at the QUALITY of the QSL being received by any
 manager, or
individual first as the cause for these problems.

I had very little problems with my 5BDXCC because of the newness
 of the
verification of QSO's that I was asking for. All requested QSL's
 were
within 1-2 years to my recollection just for this exact reason.

Being Dave Heil's manager taught me that 1-3 years delay for a QSL
 wasn't
unusual, and mostly were responded to normally within days or
 weeks. I
have verified MANY QSL's that have been 10 + years that have had
 an
EXPEDITE request so they could file for some or other award this
 year.
Why should I rush at this point?? I continue to keep all logs
 open, but
would really understand if someone would close their own logs
 after such
a long period. The challenge of getting awards based on new
 requests on
old QSO's is a great one. Many times it's easier to rework, or
 find
another country to substitute than to spend time, and effort
 trying to
dig up ancient , accurate, information.

I have to support the station replying to the cardif you have
 an
ancient QSO don't expect an expedited QSL, and don't argue if you
 get a
not in log after all those years. Again, been there..done
 that.

I can't say that I'm TOTALLY innocent either, but I accept the
consequences, and don't gripe about time delays if I violate my
 own
rules. I was embarrased to even send for a 6O card that I had
 found back
from 20 years ago that was not followed up on. I did, and received
 the
card (Thank You)after about a year, through a foreign manager. I
wouldn't want anyone to not pursue an old QSO, through me or
 anyone
elsebut don't expect the QSL to fall into your lap within a
 month, 3
months, or a year, if you haven't made the effort to keep current
 either.

After 150 K + QSL's issued, you can tell that I enjoy getting,
 and
sending the cards, but I don't want to be held to someone's
 mis-guided
expectations that it is my DUTY to answer NOW, at their
 convenience.

  My opinion...
