Jim - I am sure others would agree that your efforts with the country
database are above and beyond superb!I know that 1% concern you have is
bugging you, but the rest of us are just so happy that you do this, that we
would never complain.

THANK YOU JIM!

Here's a longer explanation:

I have software that runs automatically once a week to download the latest
callsign changes from the FCC database. It specifically looks for callsigns
like this: KH6 call in lower-48 states, non-KL7 call in Alaska, etc. This
only really works well when the callsign is used by one ham.
The two things that the software doesn't do well are a) recognize canceled
callsigns, and b) recognize re-issued callsigns. KH6KW failed on both
fronts.

Every now and then (once every month or two), I will look for re-issued
callsigns. It's a semi-automated process. The software looks for callsigns
that were canceled (like KH6KW) to see if they have been re-issued after the
cancelation date. But it only looks for re-issued callsigns if the callsign
had previously expired or been canceled. KH6KW was not identified as a
canceled (or expired) callsign in my master database, so the process to
identify re-issued callsigns never checked KH6KW.

Someday when I have lots of free time, I am going to rewrite my FCC program.
I don't have that time now. The program is a little fragile, so I'm
reluctant to try to make small changes to it. It works 99% of the time, but
KH6KW fell into the other 1%. Plus, as I have discovered over the years,
the weekly data that the FCC provides has some idiosyncracies that are hard
to explain.
