Re: [Dx4win] any upgrades?

2023-03-30 Thread Dan Violette
I also was a great fan of DX4WIN for many years (version 5.xx or late 4 is
where I started). I even slugged through the long delay to V9 from V8. I
have moved on after a year or so of V9 when no further real updates were
expected. I also would never recommend a newer ham to use DX4WIN since the
items that most would find almost necessary these days are LoTW integration
(upload/download confirmations within the program), and notification of
award needs in the WSJT window. Keeping LoTW in sync with one button and
seeing color coded FT8 needs in WSJT receive window sure is nice.

Hi John, you hit the nail on the head. I am 78 years old and I have been
using Dx4Win ever since version 6.XX. The last thing I need is a big
learning curve with a program that may not be as good as Dx4Win when I
finally figure it out. With a little work you will find out that Dx4Win will
do more things than you can imagine. I wouldn't give up Dx4Win if someone
paid me.

When ever a new ham joins our radio club I suggest Dx4Win for their logging.
They are all happy because is is very easy to get started using it. As time
goes on one can add more and more knowledge of the use of the many features.

I believe most DX4Win users who also operate FT8 would like full

integration. Most likely that would require adding UDP communication and

Paul says that is not likely to happen, at least not anytime soon.

Fortunately, it is not difficult to add FT8 QSOs to DX4Win. I create a

shortcut to the WSJT-X (or JTDX) .adi file. I import that file and it

imports very quickly. Not ideal, but very easy.

If you need a logging program with real time uploads to Club Log, LOTW, full

integration with other software and other fun things, DX Labs software may

be your choice. But the learning curve is steep and the number of settings

and options is significant. DX4Win is very straight forward and so easy to

use. I want to focus on making QSOs, not spending tons of time on the

logging program.

Re: [Dx4win] any upgrades?

2023-03-30 Thread Courtney Judd
ok I want to make sure I have this straight! In the microHam router
software I have for DX4WIN CAT COM 8 and PTT  COM5; so now I could do
for WSJT  2nd CAT COM 9 and 2nd PTT COM 10 and this will allow both
programs to run at the same time. Under this setup will WSJT populate
the log window in DX4WIN or do I still have to manually move info?
thanks, Cort K4WI

Re: [Dx4win] any upgrades?

2023-03-30 Thread Courtney Judd
well, I pretty much agree with all of you that DX4WIN is a great program
and I have been a user since it first came out and have over 160K qso's
in the log. I have it running over two 24 inch monitors with MMTTY,
winKeyer, cluster running and it works great what ever band or spot
I see i can jump there to what ever band/mode I want. Now comes FT8 and
WSJT. To run it I have to save DX4WIN, close it, max microKeyer3 router
and change settings for FT8, then open WSJT. Now I am blind to all the
other activity going on the bands. I want to be able to run DX4WIN and
WSJT  together with out any rig control arguments. All the other logging
programs that I have been looking at on line have this ability so I
think that this should be made available so that DX4WIN is on par with
other programs. Yes, I don't want to change and have to go thru all the
work of getting a new program to play nice with all my stuff, but looks
like I don't have any other option. Hope this clarifies what I want to
accomplish thanks, 73's Cort K4WI

Just my 2 cents

I am just sorta on the fence here now since I finally have made the jump to

FT8 and just wondering if DX4WIN is going to be upgraded to handle WSJT-X

like it does with MMTTY. I have been using DX4WIN for many years and now

have 160K+ q's in the log. There are several minor changes I would like to

see but integration of WSJT-X is one that I would like to see. So while I

have been looking at all the windows logging programs now available I don't

really want to move away from DX4WIN if something is in the pipeline. If

nothing coming then I guess I'll be looking at other options. Thanks for
