Re: [Dx4win] Speaking of /0
John, First time I've ever heard someone state to drop the /#. I once questioned one of the major contest sponsoring organization on this. They told me they strip the /# before doing the call checking. Reason is too many people are inconsistent in signing with the /#. I've experienced this many times myself when you can work a station on multiple bands. Generally I log what is sent. Then after the contest when I prepare the file to load into DX4WIN, if the exchange includes me a location, like NAQP, I will strip the /#. Then during the import process I will load the location info into the appropriate field. This way when I do a search I can see all the different locations I've worked you without having to include the /# or a wildcard. (I dislike wildcard characters mainly due to no two programs seem to use the same character so I am constantly trying to remember what character to use with what program). Actually, that person was not correct in that some contests specifically state that the call zone must be indicated if different from the licensed call zone. The station I was working refused to add the /8 after my call, so I guess it won't count for one of us, probably him as he won't report the correct call. As many of you know, I have operated from a number of states and have used /7, /8, /9 and /0, mainly to differentiate between the operating locations. If I were only to give my name and state (with a variety of states such as OR, IA, MT, NE, WY, ND, SD, WI, IN, OH, MI, etc. from which I have operated) I'm sure that the correct state would be questioned many times. Am I not correct in this thinking? I sure don't want to make it more difficult for the receiving station to copy the correct info the very first time. In all the operations that I have made, this is the very first time that I have been told to drop the /8 suffix. 73, John W9ILY __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Dx4win] QSO confirmed status (not) on ADIF export.
Dave, # 1 May be a Windows problem. I've had the same problem in the past with DX4WIN and other software specifically with help files after an update. Windows is not giving DX4WIN permission to open the help file. There are a couple ways to fix. Easiest is to find the help file in the v7 folder. Double click on it to open it up. A pop up box may appear asking if you want to open the file (or something like that), click yes or okay. Now you can close and it should work from DX4WIN. This might help my main problem if I could get at the help... Do I need to do something to activate the Help? Question 2) I think the ADIF field that gives the QSO confirmed status is called qsl_rcvd:1 Is this correct? Question 3) I exported my log a few weeks ago with V6 and the the few QSOs that I have card confirmations for were apparently exported correctly as the receiving application shows them as confirmed. I have since upgraded to V7 I have now created a dummy log and done 4 exports a) No confirmations in DX4Win b) card confirmation c) upload confirmation d) both confirmations I have changed the QSO preferences each time accordingly The DXCC summary report shows the correct data for each case. But all four ADIF exports have the item..qsl_rcvd:1Neor So if I am looking at the correct ADIF item I am not getting any Yes confirmations exported in any of the cases. Group numbers work good as long as you have fewer than 254 contests to enter. Once you exceed that you need to find some other way of differentiating the different contest groups. I have exceeded that point and am still trying to find a way to separate out individual contests that is as easy as using the group numbers. [Dx4win] FW: LOTW d/l file
I had a similar problem with QSO's upload from WriteLog, however I my case those QSO's were also imported into DX4WIN. RE: [Dx4win] Printing Label Directly on QSL Card
Depends on the finish of the card stock. Those with the glossy or semi-glossy finish the ink will have a tough time sticking to the finish. The cards with a flat finish or I think they call it a matte finish I've had pretty good luck with the ink sticking. I found a few references to this in the archives, but I am having a couple of problems. One is getting the label to print in the correct spot (which, in my case, is the center of the card). I suspect it's just a matter of me playing around with things before I find the right location. The more serious issue is that the ink from my laser printer (HP P2015d) doesn't seem to want to stick to the QSL card. I'm using an inexpensive W4MPY stock card for the trials, but have also used a sample from the QSL Shop. I am wondering if there is a coating on these cards prohibiting the ink from adhering. The card also creates a paper jam if it is placed in the printer in an orientation perpendicular to the envelope feed direction. I'm interesting in hearing from anyone who has made this work. Re: [Dx4win] HELP - Multiple QSOs on one QSL label
Another option is to use a taller label which will allow more lines of text to be printed. The standard 15/16 tall label doesn't end up with many lines for QSO data once Call Sign and header information is printed. [Dx4win] Comparing Log Files
Does anyone have solution for comparing 2 DX4WIN log files to find entries that are different? Short version of the story. Somewhere along the line a lot of the state data was deleted from many of my U.S. entries. By the time I discovered it was too late to go back and use one of the back up files as they all had the same change. Plus I also have added many more entries between when the incident occurred and when I discovered it. Up until now I had been manually going through each log entry to correct. However, last night I found an older log file that is still intact with all the correct state data. Now if I can just find some way to compare the files and make notes of the differences it would help speed up the process of fixing the file.
