David, if the driver you are using is different than the one Neil posted

Thanks David and Dennis. I will try the drivers. I am just using whatever
DX4win includes and Winkey driver in SmartSDR. Will post my result here. After
spending major portion of 2 days working on this and the new rig I had planned
to take a day off. From radio. Not gonna be easy now :-).

Re: [Dx4win] HELP dx4win on new win10 computer

2015-11-08 Thread Howard K2HK
Thought I would post my progress. Thanks to Bob and Rick I did work out the
problems in DX4win. I tried each alone and learned a bit about the action of
the serial ports for one. A little trickier when you don't have a native serial
port. I found a nice FTDI converter that has 4 ports which after some
experimenting worked well. The other problem was that Windows 10 wants to use
Classic Window's theme in which case entries into various preference boxes were
not visible giving the impression that nothing was happening. Use of any other
theme corrected that problem. All OK now. BTW, I did try another program and was
impressed but needs a few more days of trial.Thank you again for the help
guys.73,Howard..K2HK

Good advice Rick. Will try it one step at a time. Comports work with other

[Dx4win] FW: [Elecraft] Can't interface Dx4win to K3

 From: Howard K2HK ho...@hotmail.com

 Subject:( K3)Can't interface Dx4win to K3
No response from Dx4win reflector so trying once more.K3 does not change
frequency when using Dx4win 8.05. Simply times out when a spot is selected. It
had been working w/o problem.
My setup: Win7 computer, native serial port (com1) , P3, Pigknob, Winkeyer. I
am using LP bridge for virtual serial ports. All programs respond as normal,
i.e.,keying, kkey macro program, K3 utility. However, when selecting a spot on
DX spots screen I receive the radio time out, interface disabled. So far as I
can tell the DX spot screen updates and all other features function normally. I
have tried the cable directly to K3 and with another K3 with similar results. I
have also changed serial ports.

Bob, Bryan,Thank you for response.
Runs normally until I select a spot which should send the info to the K3. I
can see updated spots in the spot window. Selecting a spot disables the radio
interface. Although it resumes indicating incoming spots. FRUSTRATING. I
believe it is independent of the LP Bridge because I have connected a native

I am using lp bridge and having trouble staying connected to dx4win

get a time out. Maybe it is the lpt bridge.

 Hi Folks,

I've started work on DX4WIN.CTY #89 which I expect to release in early
January 2011. You can read the release notes here:

 http://www.country-files.com/dx4win/release.shtml#89

After reading this, you might be saying to yourself, Wow, that's a
lot of changes! Well, it is (almost 200 if you really want to know).
After doing some earlier work checking the last date a callsign was
used, I added checks for the starting date (by comparing to old DX
Cluster spot data). What I found is that many calls in the database
had no start date (and probably should have), or the callsign was used
BEFORE the date in the DX4WIN database. I prefer to keep the start
dates accurate, since I don't want to disturb any QSOs with the same
call that may have occurred BEFORE the start date (and for which I
have no information). All changes were inspected visually in addition
 to the automated (program) checks.

Please inform me of any changes before the new year. I probably won't
work on this again until then.

 Thanks 73 - Jim AD1C

Thanks guys for the responses. I should have noted I am using a DX Doubler. I
believe there may be an additional switching problem with pin 14 on the LPT
port for the second radio with the DXD. I have used DX4Win for so long that I
am reluctant to go another route for DX'ing and casual operating but I
undoubtedly will for contesting. I would like to hear from anyone using Dx4win

  Ctrl-Shift F12 actually.

You need to set up the interface for both radios and you can use a pin
(pin 14 I think) on an LPT port to supply a signal to automate the
switch between radios if you have the hardware. Set up is on the CW tb
  of Preferences.

Guy has some hardware that supports SO2R operation. www.on4aoi.be

You can also find SO2R hardware at arraysolutions.com

Try Radio from the main menu, there is a key sequence to switch
  between radios (I think it's F12 but I don't have a radio connected in
the home office, so I can't see the choices). You can probably figure
out which section in the manual to find more details.

DX4WIN beam headings are referenced to the geographic North Pole - 90
degrees North Latitude. There is no way for DX4WIN to know the heading
to magnetic north from your particular QTH. I am not aware of ANY
 program that can do this.

What DX4WIN should have, and I can't find it at the moment, is a way to
program an offset into the rotator control. Then if your antennas were
aligned to magnetic North, DX4WIN could compensate for this. Maybe Guy
ON4AOI knows if such a feature exists.

I operate from several positions in my Multi-2 shack as well as from another
geographical site about 100 miles from the main QTH.

I would like to use one, single log file at all the positions and use
different groups to differentiate stations or positions. To keep an
updated, current log at each station/position, I've come up with the
 following scheme:

I use the free program, Dropbox, to hold files that I want to share between
computers and keep files updated on each computer. I operate and log QSO's
to a Master log. I then copy this log to Dropbox. When I start operating
from another station or location, I copy the Master log from Dropbox to my
SAVE folder. I operate and start the process over again, copying the new
log to Dropbox and allow the program to make updated log files available on
each of the station computers --- for that matter any computer on the
 planet.

Is this a safe, reasonable way of have one, current, updated log shared by
several positions and stations? Is there a better way?

 Thoughts and ideas appreciated.

 Thanks,

Re: [Dx4win] Help file

2009-08-06 Thread Howard K2HK

Yep been doing that. If it is a bug waiting to be fixed I can live with that.
Just thought it was a problem here.

Tnx Jim.

When attempting to open Help file, I get dx4win help file not found. Do
you want to locate it yourself? It exists in the executable dir as
dx4win.chm as a compiled file but does not open from program.

 Subject: [Dx4win] CPU Excessive Use

Just connected my new Elecraft K3 transceiver to computer and my computer
indicates DX4WIN is using my entire CPU time. My preference settings are:

 Radio:

Type Elecraft K3 (also tried Elecraft K3 X4)
 Address 00
 Baud Rate 38400

 Notes for radio blank

 Com Port Com5
 Poll Rate 1000 (ms)
 Max tries 6
 DTR high unchecked
 RTS high unchecked

There is no second radio. My previous Kenwood TS-570D when connected does
not cause excessive CPU usage. Suggestions please!!!

[Dx4win] Failure of # increment in contest mode (CW)

2008-12-27 Thread Howard K2HK

I'm sure I am missing some important point but I can not get my QSO number to
increment in contest mode. I have contest ON in QSO window. I have set date and
starting number. In the macro box in the CW Keyboard window I have used the
symbols %#. The number remains at 001. What am I missing?
