Tom,

I have been running DX4WIN with Win 7 64-bit for years. I have not had any
problems. I think there was an LPT driver (?) that had to be installed to
get the hardware CW keying working, but it has been so long ago that I don't
remember the details.

Re: [Dx4win] JT65 signal reports

2013-09-03 Thread Jim - N4ST
John,
I use WSJTX and JT-Alertx when working JT65a and JT9-1.
There is a configuration option to write the mode and signal reports to the
comment field.
I am using a different logging program and this works fine with it and then
I can import into DX4WIN the info in the comment field.
You might see if it possible to write the ADIF file directly with the mode
and signal report in the comment field which could then be imported to
DX4WIN.
Never tried it , so don't know for sure.

I'm running version 8.04 and maintaining a group log with imports from
various other logging programmes which include JT65 QSOS with negative
signal reports. However DX4Win wont accept a negative report and records a
default 599. I need to be able to record a negative report in the correct
field for QSLing

Has there been a fix or upgrade I missed?

Expensive, but fewer headaches.

Re: [Dx4win] Wish list

2013-08-01 Thread Jim - N4ST
Alan,

No debate that HRD has a learning curve, because it is very feature rich.
For the particular issue you raise, looking up a call, one merely right
clicks on the decoded call and select call and the window on the left will
be auto populated with QRZ data such as name, QTH and locator grid, along
with the current solar indices, and a list of bands if you have worked this
station before. You can do this even before you make the contact or log the
QSO. If you log the QSO, then from the logbook you can click QRZ and all
of the gory details such as QSL route, mailing address, operator age, etc.
will be filled in.

I have used DX4WIN for quite a few years, but have been riding the fence for
the last four, with most of my operating/contesting being done with HRD.
HRD is OK for the casual contester, but it is certainly not top tier for
that purpose. I primarily migrated to HRD because of the broad support of
digital modes that are built in.

I looked at HRD at the Visalia Intl DX Convention, even got a sample trial
CD. I was looking at a way to use RTTY and digital modes directly from HRD
where you could read what was being sent right within HRD and then send your
reply. But it seems really complicated. He was using 2 monitors full of
info. It would seem the learning curve would be big. When I asked how do you
do a lookup of a station that you have just logged or are presently in QSO
with it seemed like a difficult procedure on HRD whereas with DX4WIN you
just have to have the CALLSIGN/MGR LOOKUP window (F3) open and click on the
guys callsign and it takes you to his QRZ.COM lookup (or Buckmaster if you
have it so programmed). Very simple.

I'm not sure but is HRD both a contesting and a general logging program? I
am now using DX4WIN as my general logger and to track awards (DXCC, IOTA,
WPX) and printing QSL labels and N1MM as my contest logger. Jim has a FB
conversion program to convert a contest ADIF file to a DX4WIN.DXQ file to
import to DX4WIN. I just used it again after last weekend's IOTA contest and
DX4WIN now shows I logged a few new IOTA's.

three defects were reported last week:

Re: [Dx4win] ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge

2013-02-22 Thread Jim - N4ST
Alan,

The Diamond Challenge had a means to import an ADIF file to populate the
spreadsheet, but when I tried it last Fall, it did not work properly.
You might try it, to see if they got it fixed. If you can't find the link,
maybe they gave up on the implementation and removed it. (?)
It's a little painful, but I just did it by hand. Oddly, when you enter the
data by hand, less information is required.

The Challenge Award on your DXCC awards page is a completely separate award.
It is based on your number of band-countries. You need 1000 points to
qualify. You are getting close, keep DXing! :-)

If I am reading correctly you can still submit your application anytime

I have found the Diamond DXCC Challenge Award excel worksheet scorecard on
the ARRL website. I wonder if there is a quick way to import entries from
DX4WIN to this excel scorecard as is done with the CQ DX Marathon conversion
program. Has anyone found a simple way to get the info either to this score
card or some sort of a list that can be submitted as the Diamond DXCC
Challenge Award record sheet that is meant to be filled out manually?

I am also confused with what is the challenge shown on my LOTW account
status. On the bottom of the list in the awards column there is a challenge
line that shows AWARDED: 947, TOTAL---/CURRENT 957. I don't know what this
is. Is it related to the Diamond DXCC Challenge Award?

Subject: [Dx4win] ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge

Hi Folks,

I have been on vacation since 12/22 and just returned home yesterday.
It is going to take me a while to catch up on the E-mail I have missed, so
please be patient.

I understand that the ARRL has released a new DXCC award for 2012 called the
Diamond DXCC:

   http://www.arrl.org/diamond-dxcc

I have not read any of the reflector postings and have only skimmed the
award rules. I assume people want to know how to track this award in
DX4WIN.

The easiest way to track this award in DX4WIN would be for me to create a
custom award module listing all 231 Diamond DXCC entities.
This is similar to what I did for the Fred Fish Memorial Award (6 meter
VUCC). You will be able to set the custom award fields for the DXCC
entities you work that qualify for the award, but there will be no spot
filtering, etc. in DX4WIN. However, you could still generate a needed list
report, for example.

The ARRL also has an Excel spreadsheet you can download to track your
progress. I could do something similar to what I do for CQ DX Marathon,
i.e. a program to filter the QSOs from an ADIF file you export from DX4WIN,
into a similarly-formatted spreadsheet file that you could copy/paste into
the ARRL spreadsheet.

Either of these two solutions will take me some time to implement.
Please be patient and I'll try to have something before the end of the
month.

Re: [Dx4win] WPX LOTW versus DX4WIN

2012-07-16 Thread Jim - N4ST
Yeah, I'm only averaging 1 or 2 per day being added to my WPX Mixed total.
I did go in and manually add some just to see it work, but at 12 cents each,
I will get my WPX 1000 endorsement sticker via eQSL instead of paying $120
to LoTW.
I am a big big fan of LoTW, but not in this case. A while back you could
buy credits for your QSLs from LoTW and if you bought in bulk, the price
went down, now it's a flat 12 cents each.

My experience is similar. With over 100K QSOs, DX4WIN reports that I
should have over 2000 WPX confirmed on LoTW alone. The LoTW web site
shows 238.

A week after I wrote this, and my total is up to a whopping 252 mixed
prefixes. Wow. Something's going really slowly...

Re: [Dx4win] WPX LOTW versus DX4WIN

2012-07-07 Thread Jim - N4ST
Patience grasshopper.
WPX has just gone live on LoTW and it is crunching through the millions of
records in the background.
You can read that status message when you first log onto LoTW on the home
page.
ARRL will post when the WPX processing is up to date.
I currently have more DXCC credits than WPX credits.

I must be missing something.

I have uploaded over 73,000 QSO to LOTW and have 26,451 QSL records.

However, I only have 184 mix WPX. For that many QSL records, I would have
expected a ton of unique call signs.

DX4WIN shows 750 WPX confirmed.

Maybe I need to download the WPX file from LOTW and do a cross check?

Has anyone been able to get their version of 6.0 registered yet? I used
the online order form Friday night and haven't heard anything yet. I
more worried that my order wasn't received properly than anything I
know Steve said he was busy with the upgrades and I'm wondering if
others here on the list have had any luck...

Thanks Larry W0FLY
