[Dx4win] DX4Win Label Printing Problem

2022-11-16 Thread Eric Rosenberg
I've been using DX4Win for ages, but have recently had problems printing
QSL labels.

I can't get it to print to my Brother QL-550 label printer.

I can print a test page from the Win 10 "devices" set-up page, but when I
print from DX4Win, I get an error message saying that labels in the printer
don't match what the application is calling for. The weird part is that the
size of the label cited in the error message is the same as what's
specified in the software and what's in the machine.

I corresponded with Paul about this issue a year or so ago with no
success.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Eric W3DQ

[Dx4win] Label printing problem

2013-03-29 Thread Dusty Chapman
I am using Avery type 5160 labels. DX4WIN 8.05.
Printer is a HP photosmart 7900 series.
3 QSL's have been selected
I hit Print QSL labels
Print via manager is selected
QSL method - tried ALL DIRECT
Then, Edit - Then Preview
It shows the heading and 3 QSO's on the label
With lines and no commercial
(the lines appear to extend past the right
end of the label, but do not show that way
on the printed label).

Problem: only two QSO's are printed on the label
And the third QSO is on a separate label.

I used to do this and have another line with 73 etc
de K3WC on the bottom and it all fit on the label

PREFERENCES - tried Rep/Lab at 10 8
and no Messages.

I have read all 5000 pages in the help file on
QSL printing and cannot see/understand where
my problem lies.

Any help sure would be appreciated

I believe the label height is too small for 3 qsos. Try to make it
bigger or make smaller the used fonts. Double click the name of the
fonts to change the size (and the fonts).
Maybe my notes help you also... See
http://users.otenet.gr/~sv1dpi1/en/dx4win/printqsos.html

and better this picture

understand better how it works.

[Dx4win] Label Printing Question

2013-03-14 Thread Eric Rosenberg
I have four log files that each have 1-3 QSO's I want to print labels for.

Is there any way to merge them together into one file to print? I'm not
sure how one prints to file

The other option is to run the same sheet of labels through the printer
four times, but I don't remember how to set the offset to skip past the
labels that have been removed/used after each pass through the printer.

Any/all help is appreciated!

Re: [Dx4win] Label Printing Question

2013-03-14 Thread Kostas SV1DPI
If you want to print all together you must make a new file and separate
every call in groups. You must name every group with the call you want
to print and after that in filepreferencesRep/Lab add a %%. Also when
you go to print, you must have print group names box checked.
Easier if you go with your second option. When you go to print (qso
windowQSLsPrint QSL labels) a window opens. Notice the Missing
Labels box in the middle. Here you are. Note that if have a sheet with
more than one column with labels, dx4win prints by column. So if you
have missed the first column (8 labels for example) and 3 labels in the
second, you must write 11 in that box.

You can merge the DX4WIN logs using Files | Import/Export then in the
new window, File | Merge DX4WIN log.

Or you can export the 1-3 QSOs from each file to, say, a DX4WIN8 file.
Create a new DX4WIN log and import those little files into it. Then
print from this new log.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4win Label printing

2013-03-02 Thread Dan Violette
Doyle (and DX4WIN list),

Yes, those are the labels I use. You can even specify where the first label
is (skip blanks) if you have used some and there are more on the sheet.
Last purchase of cards (I had them printed/cut at office store) I left 3 of
4 on each sheet with a blank space instead of an information box. I can
stick the label there and nothing to show through. I actually set up the
laser printer to print directly on the cards which I can do now instead of
labels.

Re: [Dx4win] Label Printing Not Aligned

2013-01-07 Thread Kostas SV1DPI
When you go to print (QLSsprint qsl labels then in the print qsls
window, then print) then setup) finally you are in Report Setup window.
Then if you go setup you can choose (among other things) Printer's
paper. When you make experiments with a sheet, printer knows you have a
sheet. If you want to have the same results with avery labels, go there
and tell printer that you have a sheet agn even you really have labels.
The other way is to make your experiments with labels.

See my notes abt printing here

I believe the sum of the labels' dimensions you gave are bigger than a

When you are in the Print QSL window, then select Print, the Report
Setup window will pop up before anything is actually printed. If you
then select Preview instead of Printer in the Destination pull-down, you
will get a preview screen where you can see exactly how many pages of
QSLs will be printed. Not exactly what you ask for, but pretty close.

are you sure that your label has the space for more than 1 qso? I use it
always at 0 (it means print as more as you can). So i have not tested if
other numbers work but 0 works for sure.
Try to change the label height and make a preview on the screen. Otherwise
double click the fonts and reduce the font size. I remember that there is a
problem with the commercial (it comes back on). Probably a bug...
Feel free to ask agn if you still have more questions.

Re: [Dx4win] Label printing problem

2011-07-15 Thread Jay Hainline
I am not sure how to make it more easy to understand. I had 2 QSL cards from
2 different stations that I needed to print a label for. After placing the
Y in the label field and saving it with the F10 key for each of the 2 log
entries, I went to print my 2 labels but DX4WIN would only show 1 label to
print rather than 2 even though both log entries had the Y in the label
field. I was not printing by groups. I was printing ALL.

Jay i can not understand whta you mean abt different callsigns.
Have you them in different groups? Then dx4win normally will print different
label for every group. Do you want group's name to be printed? Anyway happy
you found a solution.

No let me try to clarify. I am trying to print out multiple labels for
different callsigns but the program will only show 1 label to print.

I ended up hitting F9 to go back to logging real time and then went to the
QSLs drop down menu to select print QSLs labels. For whatever reason, that
time it worked and I was able to print out the labels that I needed. Still
had to uncheckmark the options and the commercial but at least I got what
I needed done. Still scratching my head however.

are you sure that your label has the space for more than 1 qso? I use it
always at 0 (it means print as more as you can). So i have not tested if
other numbers work but 0 works for sure.
Try to change the label height and make a preview on the screen. Otherwise
double click the fonts and reduce the font size. I remember that there is
 a
problem with the commercial (it comes back on). Probably a bug...

Then you probably had different qsl method in each qso. For example buro in
the first qso and direct in the second one. If you have the same qsl method
then both qsos will be printed in one label, if qsl method is different then
two seperate lables will be printed.

[Dx4win] Label printing format for standard QSL (4x6) card

2011-04-03 Thread William Spickler
Is there a format for printing directly on a QSL card. My cards have
standard boxes across the middle of the card. I've tried editing one of the
custom reports to print a label for the 4 x 6 card but it still printing the
basic 1 label in the middle of the card. I'm sure there must be a format
for this as it is a pretty standard card layout, but I haven't been able to
find it.

Thanks for any info.

Forward :  I do not print labels with DX4WIN.

I have received several QSL card with printed labels that NO LONGER will stick
to their appropriate QSL card.  I have secured them with (Scotch brand
tape).  Those labels that have have come loose from the QSL do indicate the TO:
and FROM: call-signs.  I am glad both callsigns are listed on the printed
labels that clearly defines the To: , From:  on the labels.  Please
ensure your labels format(s) provide the same TO/FROM info.

Re: [Dx4win] Label Printing

2010-12-22 Thread R.T.Liddy
Hi Alan,

Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I missed it when it first came in and
a bunch of others caused it to scroll way down to another page.

Well, I tried putting various numbers into the Missing Labels box
with various results.

If I put 0 in there, it prints a label and scrolls to the bottom 11 down.
If I put 1 in there, it scrolls down 1, prints, then scrolls to the bottom
  of the 11 page.
If I put 11 in there, it scrolls down 11, prints, then scrolls another 11.

I don't need/want it to scroll anywhere, period.  I merely want a choice
to print a label and line feed to where the next label would start, then STOP.

Perhaps, if the program wouldn't issue a Form Feed after printing a single
label and the Missing Labels was set to 0, it would work. (???)

I've ruined so many labels already playing around with different options. And,
if I send it to my tractor feed line printer I get the same results and waste
lots of sheets of paper. (Darn Form Feed!)

Until I get some kind of actual fix, I'm just going to go back to my old DOS
computer and DXBase 4.5 and print the one or two labels or addresses I need.

Thanks for the suggestions.  If I give up on ever using the tractor feed label
printer and use my inkjet printer, I'll try your suggestions there.

73 MX,   Bob K8BL

P.S.  I used your suggestions with my inkjet printer and was able to put labels
anywhere I wanted on plain paper by adjusting measurements with the
   Custom 1 formatter option.   :O)

I can understand you wanting to use a continuous roll of labels for only a
couple of labels, BUT, DX4WIN does allow the use of sheets of labels for
just a few labels. In the label print window there is a box MISSING LABELS.
So let's say you have a sheet of labels that you have already printed 5
labels from. So you put 5 in the missing labels box and it will start with
the 6th label which should be the first blank label on your partly used
page. I use type 8160 labels, 2 5/8 inch long and 1 inch high. They fit FB
on my QSL cards.

My only problem is the latest version 8.04 does not remember my preferred
settings as previous versions did. It always goes to the default of PRINT
QSL MANAGER LABEL, PRINT VIA MANAGER, PRINT METHOD LABEL being selected and
PRINT GROUP NAME not being selected. I always change it to PRINT METHOD
LABEL being deselected and PRINT GROUP NAMES being selected but it won't
remember these settings. Anyone else have a problem with this??

Subject: [Dx4win] Label Printing

Hi All,

Just installed DX4WIN and am trying to learn its many features.

I've run into a couple problems that I can't find discussed in the
Help files.  I'll deal with them one at a time so as not to get too
 confusing.

Labels:

I don't often print more than a few labels.  Many times it's just one
to respond to an incoming QSL. I can see how to do sheets of labels
on my inkjet printer but can't imagine doing that many (a sheetfull).

I have an old tractor feed printer where I printed my labels from my
previous logging program. It's merely one across. The labels are
3 1/2 in. X 15/16 in. They are also known as Avery 4013 style.

I've tried numerous setups in the Label Editor and can get a label
to print OK. BUT, after it prints the label it appears a Form Feed
is sent to the printer because it feeds out a whole page length of
labels. That's a real waste of a lot of labels since rolling them back
peels them off and makes a mess.

I tried Custom5 and set the Page Width to 3 1/2 and the Page Height
to 1.0, but it still feeds out like an 11 sheet. I set them to Zero and
I still get a form feed to 11.

There is a choice for Label Name 4013, but it still feeds out like an 11
 Form Feed.

Any suggestions?

TNX/73, Bob K8BL

[Dx4win] Label Printing Problem..

Using version 8.02 DX4WIN and have problem printing labels with this version.
The only info that is printed is the Pse QSL etc but nothing re the dx station

appreciated. Our interest is for individual qsls', not for a specific group.
Our previous approach has been using Avery 8460 labels on letter size label

[Dx4win] Label Printing/Callsigns

2010-10-17 Thread Carl Mason
Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to add an extra line when printing QSL
labels? Using 'File- Preferences-Set Parameters-Labels Greetings' you get two.
I
have been using L7160 labels for a time but there is a lot of wasted space on
them which could be put to good use with the addition of an extra 'optional'
line!

Also, there are a few 'special event' stations running these days with long
callsigns i.e. SQ200CHOPIN/4 which will not fit in the callsign window. Would
it
be possible to increase the size by a few characters?

[Dx4win] Label Printing

2009-12-14 Thread Carl Mason
Hi,
Has anyone had problems printing custom labels in v8.02? For whatever reason I
cannot get the programme to recognise an A4 page with 30 labels on it - 70x30mm
- 3 across/10 down with no spacing between labels. I have changed the font
sizes and removed 'using lines' etc but DX4WIN will not recognise this custom
label. If I switch to Avery standard labels L7160 or L7159 it prints well.
However, if ''Uses lines' is selected the date 'box' line prints the last numer
in that filed no matter what font size is selected!!! The 'Label Editor' also
prevents me choosing the number of QSO's per label. Any help appreciated.

I have just installed the 7.02 ver and all looks fine until printing out
labels.

I have just done like b4, but it will not print.

Instead of printing it starts to “Generate millions of pages”.

I cancelled the generating at about 6 million pages.

The generating comes up what ever I try.

One thing to consider is some methods will also print the address label
and others will not. I forgot which methods does what but using PREVIEW

[Dx4win] Label-printing question

2008-05-10 Thread Garry Shapiro

Problem and question:
Because I have been cavalier about checking the LABELS box, Q's I need
confirmed and TNX for all the JA's and others all have the LABELS box
checked. Is there a way to pick a subset for printing (e.g. needed
topband counters) without erasing all other LABELS checks first? I
really do not want to print 2000+ labels all at once and then go fishing
for the ones I want to process right away. I also do not want to lose
track of the JA's and others who QSL'd via the buro and to whom I
therefore owe cards.

[Dx4win] Label Printing

2005-10-01 Thread Paul van der Eijk
Andy,

The program will print QSOs that have been flagged for printing.
In the QSO window, this field is marked as Label.

You can clear this field for all QSOs: QSO Window | Labels | Clear print flags.

[Dx4win] Label Printing

2005-07-09 Thread Skip Caswell
Hi All

I recently down loaded my log from a different logging program into dx4win. I
would like to print labels for QSO's after a certain date, not confirmed.

Prior to printing I got a print count and it turned out to be my whole log. I
tried different ways of filters, but did not get good numbers there either.

Can someone help me out. Thanks

Create a Date Filter using Filter - Selection

Then using that filter, use F8 to search for unconfirmed QSOs. At this point
you should be able to print the labels you desire.

[Dx4win] Label Printing Problems: 6.02 and HP 1100A

2004-02-08 Thread Eric Rosenberg
This is an old problem that kept me at v5.02.

I can't print cards or labels correctly using my HP1100A printer.

1- No matter what I do, the labels (Avery 5160) come out LANDSCAPE and
2 colums per page.
2- My custom configurations to print directly on cards is ignored.

What now? I don't want to have to go back to v5.02 (If I even have it).

[Dx4win] Label printing query

2003-03-27 Thread Barry
Pete,
I believe it will do what you want, though indirectly. AFter
selecting Print, select Preview (rather than Printer) as Destination.
It will show you exactly what will print and how many pages will
print.

I print mass QSLs about once a year. One of the issues I face when
approaching the task (I print using a custom label definition, directly on
sheets of uncut QSLs, 4 to a page) is whether I have enough sheets
pre-printed to handle the task. I reason, perhaps incorrectly, that if I
do the whole thing in one flight and run out of sheets, I will be unable to
mark as QSLed those I have actually printed, while cancelling the
rest. Since it may take a few days to get more printed, I face the
prospect of either having to leave DX4WIN paused at that point or starting
over and figuring out manually where to restart.

In the past, I have usually handled this by printing 25 sheets at a time,
but it would surely be nice to have the software tell me not only how many
QSOs it intends to print, but also how many labels will be required, given
the current label definition. I believe BV does this -- could DX4WIN be
 taught to do it?

[Dx4win] Label Printing Question

2002-12-14 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED] (John Bednar)
I played around with the program and suspect that this
is a bug. If you tell the program to put those without a
buro into Other and then decide to print Other, it doesn't
show any labels.

Subject: [Dx4win] Label Printing Question

I went to print labels today and found the following:

 1. If I print all the number is 263.
 2. If I tell it to ignore those who where a bureau is not available, I
 print 243.
 3. I haven't found a way to print those other 18 after reading over the
doc and trying various things with the options available in label
 printing.

Clearly I have missed something and would appreciate help. I have saved
the log with no labels printed so I can come back to it any time and do
 it again.

 Thanks 73

Just have a look on the net for the latest up-date.

Subject: [Dx4win] Label Printing Problem

I just installed DX4WIN on a new computer (still using same printer...
Old HP LaserJet II+). I'm noticing a problem I didn't have on the
previous setup. The last label on each column of labels does not print
out the PSE QSL 73, WI5A line. Doesn't matter if there's one QSO on
the label or several. I'm using the defaults for Avery 5351 labels. Any
 ideas?

[Dx4win] Label printing problem

2002-05-06 Thread Paul van der Eijk
David,

I have seen this bug with a HP1100 printer; downloading the latest
driver for your printer may solve the problem. If you use the latest
version already, you can try to define a label format using a custom
page size of 8.5 x 11 (It was the letter size that caused the problem)

Looking to solve a small problem with DX4WIN (ver 5.03), which I just
installed on a new computer in the shack. I'm an experienced DX4WIN and am
totally frustrated that I cannot figure this one out!

The problem is in the QSL label printing routine. I use Avery 5161 labels -
two labels across each sheet, 10 down each page. Going to Labels/Print QSL
Labels/Edit, I have 5161 selected. But when I select Preview, what I see on
the Preview Editor is 1.5 labels across, with the page only 5 1/2 inches -
rather than 8 1/2 inches - wide. That results in only 1 1/2 labels across the
sheet, rather than two.It prints that way, as well.

In the label editor, the paper specified is Letter, which is 8 1/2 x 11
inches, although, of course, it's grayed out a result of selecting 5161.

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Dave, W2PK
