I recently upgraded computers and would like to move
my DX4WIN over from my old computer to the new one.
Unfortunately, I didn't save a copy of the version

file. Since version 6.04 is no longer available on
the website, can someone send me a copy of 6.04 so I
can install on my new computer.

BTW, I contacted DX4WIN support directly (Steve

said it is about 6meg so a broadband should handle it
with no problem. Thanks in advance!

HI all

Two things.
Maybe in future it would be posible to implant that when you are typing a
call in the qso window the bacground of the call gets the same colar as in
the packet spots window.
Yellow for new country etc. The program can get the info out off your log
database.
It happens now also. There is now a w or c in the country window etc.

Also I mis a commando like alt wipe.

There are two confirmed flags in each QSO entry. One for confirmed using paper

I thought I had this working last week, myself, and nearly sent a reply to
Erik. Then I had the same observation that Erik Did.

If the checkbox is unchecked, then I get %% on the label.

However, when it is checked, I get nothing !!

I just looked at it some more, and found the answer.

If the Group number is zero; then no name is printed despite the fact that
the first group has a name defined.

If I change the number to 1 or 2, then it behaves correctly!!

So; this is a bug. I don't know if it existed in previous versions of
DX4WIN.

The workaround seems to be to change group numbers through the QSO menu;
Multiple QSO operations, Set Group Number Command .

If you have multiple operations; I guess you will have to do some exporting
of logs, alter the groups and remerge? That sounds very involved for me

Erik,

I just printed labels here and it works fine. I did note that on the print
labels screen that you have to check the Use Group Names checkbox--those
settings do not import.

Tony, there are two schools of thought.

1. Always install/upgrade into the existing DX4WIN directory

2. Always install/upgrade into a new DX4W### directory

I prefer #2 but #1 certainly makes upgrading easier. Either way should work.

One think to keep in mind, at least this was true of older versions, if you
want to uninstall the old versions, do that FIRST before installing the new
version. Why? Each version installs a common port driver on your C:\
drive somewhere. If you install 6.04, then uninstall 6.03, that common
port driver will be uninstalled, and you'll have to install 6.04 again to
get it back.

The calendar should only pop up if there is calendar data. The option is
Preferences - QSO - Show Calendar at Startup. Paul may have forgotten to
delete the GOLIST data from the program before he released it :-)

 2. It took several tries until I figured out that I needed to copy my .key
file over too. Not mentioned in the 'Upgrading from Previous Versions'
 section.

This is mentioned on my web page:

  http:://www.ad1c.us/dx4win/

I agree that it should be mentioned in the on-line help.

 3. I keep getting this little popup every time I start up DX4WIN:

Master File C:\Program Files\dx4w604\DX4WIN.MAS not found. No calls loaded.

I did a complete search on my hard drive and did not find anything.

Search in the index for Master in the on-line help. If the Master Calls
window is closed, you won't get this error.

 6. I would have thought that Merging the .INI file would save your windows
that you had open. Not a biggie, just that I had to click on them and they
came up in the previous spot where I had them. The Biggest grief was that
the Log Window did not retain my custom filter; i.e. It had fields on it
that I did not want to see and vice versa. Only took about 10 min. but it
 was a minor inconvenience.

The window positions are retained, but not their open-ness. This has always
been the case. This is also mentioned on my web page cited above.

Dear All,

Some general advice when upgrading. As the months and years have gone by I
have many sub-directories with each versions files. If I upgrade this latest
version right on top of the previous version then this would upgrade all
files??

Beforehand I would save all files from the save directory. After upgrading
the latest version on top of the previous version, I would then merge the
various files or simply replace all files with those saved??

Is this correct method?

Many thanks to the beta testers, but especially to Jim, AD1C. Not only is

we all appreciate his efforts he puts in maintaining the country database.
Thanks Jim!

If you are disappointed that MMTTY is not in this version, be reassured
it will be in the next release. It still needs some work and I did not want
to delay this release any longer.

[Dx4win] Version 6.04 - My comments :)

2005-01-20 Thread Rick Graham
With apologies to Tony for sending him this when it was supposed to go to
the entire group :)

Hi all,

After following the instructions I have 6.04 up and running almost. Here
are some observations and questions:

1. I had to figure out what the calendar thing was and how to turn it off. I
did figure it out after a bit of playing. Not in the quick start though. I'd
have to read more on that to decide if I like that feature of not.

2. It took several tries until I figured out that I needed to copy my .key
file over too. Not mentioned in the 'Upgrading from Previous Versions'
section.

3. I keep getting this little popup every time I start up DX4WIN:

Master File C:\Program Files\dx4w604\DX4WIN.MAS not found. No calls loaded.

I did a complete search on my hard drive and did not find anything.

4. The Call lookup is different than before. I have a QRZ CD that I have in
F:. It finds the CD, but instead of putting up the call's address, a box
pops up asking about DX Managers and something else. I need to play with
this a bit more, but it would be nice to figure this one out.

5. I notice that when I use a smaller then 8pt font, that some of the
Preferences option windows appear blank.

All in all, it went smooth and I look forward to playing with some more
features this weekend as the snows fly ;)
