By the time all this discussion is over the transaction could have
 been completed.

Is the time lost worth less than the cost of a online transaction I
 wonder?
SNIP

Admittedly the time lost is not worth the cost of an online transaction, but
deliberating on one transaction is often made in order to follow it up with
many future transactions. However, it would be nice to be able to
retrospectively take Claude's advise and do the transaction last week at the
higher gold price, AND to make another 20 percent day trading! (Hindsight is
better than foresight.) ;) Who can predict where the gold price is going
next week?

2001-09-04 Thread Ian Green

Hi John-Paul,

ACH transfers are free. Certainly outside USA I have offers well over unity
(1.5%) but without the benefit of an ACH transfer.

Thinking in a different way, those people who wish to buy trivial amounts
(is USD$750 trivial?) of e-gold who otherwise have to pay 3 to 8 percent,
should be highly willing to pay over unity for e-gold. On the otherhand,
for larger amounts I would expect *less* likelihood of getting over one
percent extra for my e-gold.

Certainly, those people in the goldenagents list (which includes people
willing to buy or sell small amounts cheaply) are those likely to be most
obliging in this matter. However, If nothing else happens I will probably
take Claude Cormier up on his offer. (Unity, and a free ACH transfer.)

Cheque is useless regardless of delays or not, because of the cost of
banking it in Australia, and then wiring it back to USA for the Datek
account. Datek do not accept third party cheques for deposit to Datek
accounts. (But ACH and wires are okay.)

It's unlikely you'll get over-unity for trivial amounts, Ian, and
it's also unlikely you'll get anyone to wave a wire fee for a trivial
 amount!

I suggest you just have one of many fine retail cambios (eg,
gaithmans, whatever) just send a check. who cares if it take one
more day? Something to consider! :) JPM

Ian,

As you know, gold exchange rate varies everyday, often by more
than 1%. In fact they lost 1%+ since last Thursday/Friday high. On
occasions, exchange rates variations can make the difference
between a good deal and a bad deal.

Hi Khurram,

Yes, it's actually an ACH transfer that I mean.

I really don't know of any back that has zero fees to send a bank wire.
CompuBank used to offer this, but they got bought out by NetBank and now
charge for a bankwire. However, ACH transfers are still free, as far as I
know.

Datek have an arrangement whereby the ACH routing number and account
actually translates to the Datek account holder's account with Datek, via
Datek's account at their bank. :)

They are close to free... but I am not sure if you can gives details...
maybe only a routing number and account which is not good when
the money goes to a third party sub-account.

Surprisingly, there still has been no offers to do the ACH transfer
from *anyone* with US domestic banking facilities. Normally I would
be perfectly happy to get a wire (to Australia) from someone outside
the USA, but in this case, as Datek charge USD$15 to receive a wire
from outside the United States, and zero for domestic wires and ACH
transfers I really want to get this from a US bank. It's okay if you
are yourself outside the USA, so long as the money goes via ACH from
your American bank account. (Maybe Canada, and Mexico (therefore,
NAFTA) is in that as well? I don't know.)

Just to recap what the original request was:

The amount: USD$750 worth of e-gold (at the current price), I do
have
some spare for a little floating in the price. Starting bid: 1
percent over the value as indicated in the e-gold system (which is
close enough to $272.90 right now). Indicate your fee for bank wire
(if any). [ It should be zero if you have a good US bank. ]
