NIVA is looking for a Research Manager to head the Section for Freshwater Ecology (http://www.niva.no/en/fagsenter-for-ferskvannsmiljoe#freshwater-ecology).
Applicants should have a research background in one or more of the following scientific fields: Fresh water biology, ecology, limnology, ecosystem services and water resource management. Research managers are responsible for the personnel and scientific leadership of a section comprising 20 researchers and research assistants. As Research Manager you will report to Research Director Thorjørn Larssen (http://www.niva.no/en/se-ansatt?navn=Thorj%C3%B8rn%20Larssen) and be part of a managerial team of 7 fellow Research Managers. Main assignments As a Research Manager you will be responsible for implementing NIVA’s strategies and position within core areas of the Section for Freshwater Ecology. You will be responsible for the Section’s personnel, scientific development, HES, general project and quality assurance, as well as fulfilment of financial objectives within the section. You will also conduct and further develop your own research, follow up your own projects and contribute with your professional scientific competence in relevant projects. Formal qualifications and experience You have a PhD or comparable competence and have experience in a relevant research field. You have a comprehensive network and potential to lead initiatives in funding of basic and applied research. Managerial experience from similar activities or applied research is an advantage. We expect you to have excellent written and oral skills in English and preferably workable knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. Abilities We are looking for a person who is creative and has the ability to initiate and coordinate new research projects, preferably of an interdisciplinary nature. You are proficient in conveying ideas and knowledge and communicate well with employees and colleagues as well as customers and partners. You are an inspirational leader who can make decisions, implement priority assignments and delegate tasks. Your abilities and aspirations for leading outstanding talented researchers are decisive.
