Re: [EDI-L] Generic Import Business Model

2005-02-08 Thread William J. Kammerer

Retail? Logistics? Hmm. Have you looked at VICS? The same folks who
the UCC VICS Retail EDI standards are named after? At
http://www.vics.org/standards/ , there's a swell logistics model that
would cover an entire conference room wall.

I am looking for a generic business model showing import relationships
in retail. Ideally, it would contain the following:

Offshore

1. Manufacturer

2. Expediter/Consolidator

Carrier

1. US Customs

2. Public Warehouse

Domestic

1. De-consolidator

2. Intermodal

3. Retailer

Someone please throw me a bone. Thanks, Jim

Re: [EDI-L] Generic Import Business Model

2005-02-08 Thread Jim Contre

It is excellent for what it does, but it does not touch on imports. I dont
need anything complex, but I do need something that shows the communication
(inc doc types) from start to finish. NRF is also out. What I need to do I
guess is find someone who's been in the import game for a long time, fly there
and just pick their brain for a day or so.

Dinner and booze are on me if you are that person.

Dinner and booze? Why didn't you say that earlier? I know a guy who
likes dinners and booze. You need Robert R.T. Crowley, of Research
Triangle Software, Inc. in NC. This guy's seen it all and done it all
with respect to the import game. He's so famous that he even appears
in online encyclopedias, like
http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/R.-T.-Crowley. R.T. is at X12
today in Nashville, but I'm sure you can track him down somehow.
