CALL FOR PAPERS

The European Network for the Philosophy of the Social Sciences (ENPOSS)
invites contributions to its 8th Conference to be held in Athens, organized
by the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law of the National
Technical University of Athens. Contributions from all areas in the
philosophy of the social sciences are encouraged. Moreover, contributions
from both philosophers and social scientists are welcome.

SUBMISSIONS

Contributions can be either of individual papers or of special-theme panels
and they must be submitted through EasyChair
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=enposs2019[1]. Only one contribution
per person will be considered.

- Deadline for submission: 17 March2019

- Notification of acceptance:1 May 2019

For individual paper submissions, an abstract between 800 and 1000 words
suitably prepared for blind reviewing should be submitted.

For submission of panels on a certain topic, comprising 3 to 4 papers, a
single document for each panel must be uploaded. It must contain the
title/topic, the name of the organizer(s), the names of all the authors and
titles of their papers, a general abstract of the panels topic (between
400 and 500 words), plus an abstract of each single paper (between 500 and
600 words each).

Each submission, whether of an individual paper or a panel, will be blindly
reviewed by two members of the Scientific Committee. Priority will be given
to those who did not have a paper accepted at the ENPOSS/RT 2018 conference.

Citizen science: new epistemological, ethical and political challenges

International workshop, Université de Lyon, France

June 6-7, 2019

Description: This one-and-half-day international workshop is organized in the 
framework of the PartiSCiP project (www.partiscip.com) 
, which focuses on the impact on scientific 
objectivity of public participation in science. The opening of the very process 
of production of scientific knowledge and expertise to non-professional 
scientists benefits increasingly from institutional and political support. This 
development of “citizen science”, “participatory science” and other forms of 
science involving in one way or another lay people raises various new 
epistemological challenges. How does public participation influence the 
epistemic properties of the research process and its outcomes? In particular, 
how objectivity is affected by this participation? The workshop will also 
explore, more broadly, ethical and political challenges raised by citizen 
science, by bringing together philosophers of science, jurists, sociologists 
and scientists involved
  in citizen science programs.

Possible topics of contribution include: theoretical and empirically informed 
analysis about objectivity as a social, intersubjective process; issues about 
conflicts of values and biases, dissent and consensus formation; epistemic 
responsibility; issues of under-representation in participatory science; 
deliberative practices in science and in democracy; feedbacks on past or 
ongoing citizen science programs.

Deadline for submissions: 10 April 2019. Notification of acceptance will be 
send within ten days. Participants who do not give a talk are also welcome and 
are asked to register in advance. There is no registration fee.
