step 1 compile
step 2 fix missing dependancies
step 3 repeat step 1 and 2

Hi,

I am a trainee. They want me to port ekiga to osx. I have about 2 months to
 do this.
Could u people point me at the right direction? I am reading a pdf about

I don't know anything about MacOSX but there is a port of gtk [1] to
OSX already, I believe PTLIB and OPAL is (or at least use to be)
supported on OSX but there were issues with at least video support
from memory but as the latest release of ekiga has at least beta
support for audio/video input/output via gstreamer and thanks to
songbird and a couple of other projects gstreamer is fully supported
on OSX it should be possible.

Well, first you should open your own mail-thread (lookup mail thread
etiquette if you don't see what I mean).

And then, I guess trying compile ptlib, then opal, then ekiga is a
good start.

Fine. But as I said, You get more efficient help here If You write some
analysis+design spec together, Trainee.
The effort (under)estimation has Your mentor already done for You ;)
Don't hesitate to ask for more.

Insufficent project specification for support, sorry.

Speculation, he said port, not cross-build, since They have him hiding behind M$ hotmail
their management behaviour implies to me they want to convert Ekiga to OSX GUI+A/V-APIs
and so I doubt They will contribute to us with any patches nor with a compatible
license, will They?

In regards to this I assume you are the same Hannes De Backer that
contacted me today via my blog about porting Ekiga to Osx..

I say this not to discourage you; this will take more than 2 months
and even if you could do it in 2 months which would be impressive
you'd need some serious infrastructure and help. Even if you just
worry about doing everything through gtk and gstreamer.

There are many things that would possibly need to be implemented so
that everything works properly on the osx stack; of course I need this
so i'm willing to help if you are seriously going to roll up your
sleeves. There are going to be issues with webcams and possibly the
quicktime layer and all of that stuff would need to be rewritten from
 scratch.

On a sidenote, the XMeeting project has already all we need, so we could
reuse their video stuff. I think that except video, the rest should
work. PTLIB already has native support for Mac Audio (or whatever it is
named).
