This is kind of galling, for I am calling from the US. Is it at all possible to call 1-800 numbers at no charge with Ekiga? Yes, it is. Just get a free account on http://ekiga.net and dial : [EMAIL PROTECTED] It doesn't work for me. I do have an ekiga.net account, I do have a PC-to-phone account, I can use them both all right, but if I try the recipe above I get a fleeting message that says Security Check Failed. I notice that nobody has addressed this. Could somebody please confirm that these numbers can be reached as indicated in the reply above? Like I said, it does not work for me; in fact, all the recipes for 1800 numbers in the US listed in http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Fun_Numbers fail in the way I described. Since I have an account at ekiga.net and I can make calls to ordinary phones, I must be missing something that prevents me from using the 1800 recipes. Feedback on what might be missing would be most welcome. Do the other Fun Numbers work for you? ___ ekiga-list mailing list ekiga-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/ekiga-list

SIP access authentication is explained in Sections 26 and 22.3. This status code can be used for applications where access to the communication channel (for example, a telephony gateway) rather than the callee requires authentication. I just tested those numbers: sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (codec GSM, Pizza Hut Telemarketing) sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Colonial Bank sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Society Of Former Special Agents Of Fbi They work here. They do work all right for me as well. Not all numbers I tried do work, depending if they are connected to the network, or if I'm in the right area. But I get an error message (a vocal message) most of the time. It would seem that not all 1800 numbers in the US are equal. Other 1800 numbers I have tested (in particular, those I am interested in) all fail with the same Security check failed message printed out at the lower end of Ekiga's window. These are ordinary 1800 numbers that work as expected when using ordinary phones.
