This CPU power draw reduces battery life on laptops, causes higher heat

I needed two patches for opal corresponding to the two open wishes above
and two for Ekiga (all contained in ekiga_build-3.2.1_1.tgz ).
ekiga_exit.diff lets Ekiga shutdown semi-gracefully. ekiga_ldflags.diff
seems to be needed by my cross compiler (Debian based install), to get
the entry point right. Michael Cronenworth on Fedora got that right with
the -mwindows flag from the Win32 Makefile.

I've built 3.2.1 and the NAT and CoE issues are gone. Yay. Yet, I still
don't see VfW devices.

Your 3.2.1 release works with VfW though. How is this possible?

Notes:
-Your installer uses GTK-Runtime instead of embedding the GTK DLLs. This
would conflict with Pidgin users. You should have it detect if it is
already installed.
-The option to start Ekiga at the end of the installer does not work. I
have to start Ekiga manually. I've installed it on two Windows XP
machines without it starting automatically.

Fix those two issues and lets put your package up on the wiki.

P.S. You did use git correctly.

I rebuilt the current trunk of ptlib, opal and ekiga. All patches needed
for compilation have been applied, see my latest built in
http://wwwuser.gwdg.de/~mrickma/ekiga . Personally I use two additional
patches - they are work in progress or temporary.
1) ekiga_win32auto.diff: Make ekiga a true win32 program with entry
point set to WinMain. Windows resources are handled by autoconf and
libtool.

This patch is completely unnecessary. Set the -mwindows flag and be
done. This has been detailed in my previous postings.

2) ekiga_winstdbuff.diff: Set stdout and stderr unbuffered to get debug
output when ekiga crashes.

That's great, but this sort of patch should be kept in-house and not
committed upstream.

Yes, it compiles, but you cannot use it. (register/crash bug) I can
provide you the installer if you would like.

VFW support is still not visible even though ptlib is built with VFW
enabled. - I suppose this is still true...

Yes, VFW is still not showing up in the drop down box. PTlib is showing
enable VFW... yes so I'll have to spend more time when I can on why
PTlib is not actually compiling VFW stuff. It may be looking for
additional configure flags or WinDDK/WinSDK defines/includes that are
not provided by the Fedora MinGW environment.

Fails to register: Could you send us a -d 4 output? (I haven't seen
any, sorry)

I may have mistaken it for the crash on exit bug. I'll compile a output
dump this evening, but 3.0.2 still works fine on the same box.

Crash on exit: The only remaining bug (to my knowledge) is
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=577640.

[Ekiga-devel-list] 3.2.0 Win32

I've made an initial build of 3.2.0. It's just like my previous trunk
build. It will not register and crashes on exit. VFW support is still
not visible even though ptlib is built with VFW enabled.

I had to perform just two new patches to get it to build. The PTimeParse
issue is still around... one of these days I'll take time to figure it
out. I'm attaching the patches. The ptlib patch is to move the IPv6
define around another struct since MinGW doesn't have the IPv6 include
headers. The ekiga patch is to let the icon file be found since it was
moved.

I can make the build available to people who want to try and help debug
figure out why it's not working right.

was in the Makefile and also included new packages that added SDL
support. In order for this to all compile, link, and run, I had to make
a few changes.

ffmpeg
The libavdevice/vfwcap.c includes vfw.h stuff. The Fedora one is more up
to date.

ptlib
1. The svcproc.cxx source is not compiled on mingw. Why?
2. The vfw.cxx source included vfw.h stuff. The Fedora vfw.h includes
most of the things defined in vfw.cxx.

opal
When SDL is enabled, the configure script runs invalid checks. The m4
files need to be updated to use int main (int argc, char *argv[])
instead of int main().

ekiga
When the ekiga.exe binary is being linked, an error is thrown:
ptime.cxx:(.text+0x363): undefined reference to `_PTimeParse'

For some reason the getdate.tab.c source is not being recognized by the
linker. I verified the source was in libpt_s.a and even grepped the
strings output and the symbol is inside. I created a stub of this
function in ptime.cxx for now. Any ideas on this one?

I have made patches of the source file changes if anyone is interested
in them. I will also be refining the wiki page once I get some time.

If anyone wants my new shiny package, let me know where to put it, or I
can host it (for a limited time) if necessary. I have tested it in a
Windows XP virtual machine and it installs and runs.

Compiled versions:
Ekiga 3.0.2
Opal 3.4.2
PTLib 2.4.5
GTK+ 2.14.7
mingw32-gcc/g++ 4.3.2
expat 2.0.1
libxml 2.7.2
iconv 1.12
SDL 1.2.13

[Ekiga-devel-list] Win32 building tools

2009-02-09 Thread Michael Cronenworth

Hello,

I will attempt to build the Win32 package for you guys, but first I'd
like to know if there is any place where I can grab the NSIS installer
script or the list of packages that were used during compiling. I can
fair enough on my own to build it, but I'd like to match the feature set
of the current build.

Thanks,
Michael

It is not (yet) possible.

If Ekiga for Windows is being built with mingw, then they need to add
-mwindows to have it output a Windows application instead of a Console
application. This is a two second Makefile and recompile. I'm not sure
why they didn't compile it this way.

If they are not using mingw... then I guess they are on their own.

We have no one to maintain the WIN32 version. Any taker ?

Uh... :P

If all it involved was compiling and packaging then I wouldn't mind. I
don't have time to actually do development. I'll checkout the source and
mess around a bit. It'll be a few days or so before you'll hear back
from me most likely.

Hi,
Is it possible to reach a frame rate of 30fps on Ekiga 3.0.2 with
H264 enabled on Ubuntu 8.04 ( kernel 2.6.24-23 )...?

I am using the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro 2Mpixel camera. I
have observed a range of transmistted / received frame from 21/9 to
26/46 with and average of 24/12 most of the time. If there is some way
of achieving a ratio of 30/30, please let me know.

On wiki.ekiga.org http://wiki.ekiga.org, it is mentioned that using
setpwc tool, we can set the philips webcams to support 30fps. But this
is limited to philips webcam only..!!

Please suggest a solution for logitech camera.

First things first. The numbers you see are for TX and RX (transmitting
and receiving). The first set of numbers are the TX values. This is the
frame rate that you are sending. The second set are the RX values. You
can only control the TX values. The RX values are dependent on the
person you are calling.

Secondly, webcams require *LOTS* of light to have high frame rates on
their automatic settings. We're talking sun light's worth of light.
However, you can adjust your webcam manually. Modern Logitech webcams
use the uvcvideo kernel driver and therefore can use the libwebcam
library for access to your webcam settings.

I have created a GTK+ 2.x interface[1] to the libwebcam library. This
will allow you to manually configure your webcam even in real-time
during a call. You may also wish to visit the official Logitech
website[2] for the library.

Actually, I think you do not run the real OPAL 3.4.4 and Ekiga 3.0.2

I've reopened it with screenshot proof. What more do you need? Should I

Should I call you on Ekiga and use my webcam to show you I'm on those

To all interested parties: The bug was with the Fedora ptlib package. It

filed a Red Hat bug on the matter.

If you receive an empty NOTIFY, you can not see that icon. You see that
icon only if you do not receive a NOTIFY for that contact. If it is not
the case, then you probably think you are running 3.0.2 with OPAL 3.4.4,
but it is not the case.

Read my debug log. I am running 3.0.2 with OPAL 3.4.4. It says so right
in the log. Here... I'll even link you to the RPM of OPAL 3.4.4 from a
Fedora mirror:
http://mirror.hiwaay.net/pub/fedora/linux/updates/10/x86_64/opal-3.4.4-1.fc10.x86_64.rpm

The impossible is happening. Sorry to bust your bubble.

I guess I will file a bug report then. Bug# 569837

If you receive an empty NOTIFY message, it means the server did not
receive any presence document for the corresponding SIP peer.

I am attaching a screenshot from my work computer as I don't want to vnc
home right now. It will only have the Echo Test contact, but this will
show you the icon I see next to my contact's names. I always see this
icon no matter what. I can even call the people on my list and video and
voice chat and the icon remains the same. I never see a different icon.
My contacts also report seeing the same icon. They never see a green
icon next to my name or any name on their contact list.

Yes. They are also using Fedora 10 and the Ekiga 3.0.2 package. I can

That shouldn't matter though as I should be seeing at least offline
icons for everyone shouldn't I? Plus the Echo Test user doesn't show

[Ekiga-list] presence support has never worked

2009-01-27 Thread Michael Cronenworth

Hello,

Does presence support really work? I'm using Ekiga 3.0.2 under Fedora 10
and all of my contacts show up as little blank people icons. I don't see
the green button(online), or gray button (offline), or any color or type
of button. I'm behind a properly configured Linux (Fedora 9) server
acting as a router. I can successfully call out AND receive voice AND
video calls. I can also send and receive text messages. I know it's not
a NAT issue.

Example: http://www.ekiga.net/status/presence.php?user=mooninite
It says I'm online... however I'm not online!

I have a debug level 4 output saved that shows I'm receiving NOTIFY type
messages, but they are empty (Content length 0). That does not seem right.

Thanks,
Michael

How did you get audio to work?

I've tried uninstalling Pulseaudio but still no luck. If I test the
audio setting the little indicating bar shows the mic is picking up
sound but on a call I get hear nothing and the caller cannot hear me
either. Thanks in advance.

You need to update your Fedora installs. There is an
alsa-plugins-pulseaudio that you will be looking for:

Fixed version: alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.18-2.fc10

There was a bug in it that prevented any ALSA apps from recording.
Skype, Ekiga, etc. were all affected.
