I'm trying to use Ekiga as a VoIP program (much better than Skype)

is at

http://www.penguinproducer.com/Blog/2011/09/bridging-the-gap-using-jack-with-non-jack-apps/

The thing is, I can listen to audio from Ekiga, but the capture is not
working. Ekiga lists a device as Loopback (PTLIB/ALSA).
I can use the loopback in Audacity, but the capture channel I have to
use is jack_capture_1 (an ALSA name) This device is not available in
Ekiga, and if I select the device called Loopback (PLIB/ALSA) for
capture, it does not work

Any ideas? Can I manually, in some config file, change the name of the
ALSA input device for Ekiga and use one that's not being detected?

Hi Hugo,

Sorry to answer so late, I thought I can find some useful information in
the meantime. But not. I do not know how to make loopback available in
ekiga.

I don't know what Hugo want to do but I did find a way to send an audio file
with Ekiga. Perhaps this could help Him a little bit:

1) Launch snd_aloop module
# modprobe snd_aloop

2) Look for what soundcard has been created
$ aplay -l
(in my example it is card 4)

3 or 4) set audacious for using hw:4,1 as output device, canal de mélange
audio hw:4 and start reading the audio file (mono, 8000 samples/s)

4 or 3) set ekiga for using Loopback as input device and establish the
communication.

Hello Pablo,

It's the first time I receive this message. It seems to me Ekiga is not the
culprit since efax-gtk fails in establishing communication with your
fax-modem. (If I understand the first error message.)

Here is an example of what I get as soon I clic on Send fax:

efax-0.9a: 16:54:39 opened /dev/ttyS0
efax-0.9a: 16:54:40 using OLITEC Speed'Com 2000CONEXANTAC/K56 in class 2
efax-0.9a: 16:54:40 dialing

You can load efax-gtk in such a way that error messages are in english:
$ LANGUAGE=en_us efax-gtk

Would you be so kind as to send to me *privately* your efax-gtk

this in the fringe subject, so I don't ask other questions here.

How do you know there is no outbound sound ? Do you have a bargraph

Perhaps change your audio codec ? Ekiga echo test can only use few ones. I

I have just found one or two simple ways to do this on Linux:

3) Set audacious or other sound reader to use hw:4,1 for playback and start

4) Set Ekiga to use Loopback as capture device and start a call.

One time I also succeeded to use monitor function of pulseaudio, but don't

When you (or Ekiga, or the sound card) took samples at 8 kHz and transmit

0.7 dB down at 1 kHz
3.0 dB down at 2 kHz
8.3 dB down at 3 kHz
12.6 dB down at 3.4kHz

Attractive hypothesis! Only developpers know if samples are averaged this way.

Another possibility is down-sampling from 44.1kHz sound card but I have no idea

[Ekiga-list] Bad frequency response with Ekiga

2013-05-04 Thread geo cherchetout

Hello,

Using Ekiga v.3.9.90 and the line input of his soundcard, and PCMA codec,
Foo sends white noise to Bar who receives and records this sound with
Linphone v.3.5.99.0. (Recent versions of Linphone make recording easy, the
recorded sound being extracted from rtp streams, not from soundcard.)
Then, using Audacity, Bar displays the spectrum of the recorded sound. You
can see it here: http://pix.toile-libre.org/?img=1367698438.png

Now, the same experiment is made with Foo and Bar using the same Linphone
v.3.5.99.0 softphone, and the spectrum is much better as you can see there:

http://pix.toile-libre.org/?img=1367698567.png

Perhaps there is something like a wrong equation in Ekiga's or some
library's code ? Or this is a feature and not a bug ?

I am able to compile Ekiga but not to modify the code by myself...

Hum, I am not sure what it was really. This simple command is what I found
in config.log, but I see now that config.log doesn't save the really used
command. After using that command :

PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig ./configure

this is the begining of config.log:

This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by configure, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.68. Invocation command line was

  $ ./configure

-

This evening, to be sure, I have reconfigured and reinstalled ptlib and opal
with:

PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig ./configure

then reconfigured ekiga like on last time with:

PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig ./configure --disable-eds

then run make. Resulting seems better but not complete:

[Ekiga-list] Error about units in french comments of gconf-editor

2011-09-03 Thread geo cherchetout
Hello dear Ekiga developpers and/or translators,

For a long time there is an error about data throughputs in french comments
I get with gconf-editor. In section codecs, video, when selecting the
variables maximum_video_rx_bitrate and maximum_video_ts_bitrate I get these
comments: Débit maximal de la réception vidéo, en ko/s and Débit maximal
de l'émission vidéo, en ko/s.
In french, o is the abbreviation for octet, which means Byte. So the
right comments might not be en ko/s but en kbit/s.

Thank you to correct this very confusing error.

 Hi,

I am trying to get Ekiga to work with a Thomson TG585 v7 wireless router,
which I share with my neighbor.

I don't know the TG585 model but I assume it is not very different to my
ST716v5 since they are built with Broadcom chipsets. In that one I had to
modify the default settings as follows, using telnet:

1) connection unbind application=SIP port=5060

(source : http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Routers+SIP+ALG)

2) connection bind application=CONE(UDP) port=3478

Then Stun works for Linphone and it is not needed to NAT any port. Ekiga
seems to be a bit more exacting however but I am not able to say more.

With network detection enabled, ekiga always gives me an error message,
requesting manual prot forwarding setup which doesn't help. Otherwise it
says that registration with the SIP provider (both ekiga.net and
iptel.org) failed. Trying to use one of the services of ekiga.net (echo
test etc) gives me a Security check failed error.

Ekiga echo test is very often down...

[Ekiga-list] Errors when making ekiga-3.3.1

2011-07-19 Thread geo cherchetout
Hello,

My distribution is Mandriva 2010.2. To-day I have installed ptlib-2.10.1 and
opal-3.10.1. Then, I have configured successfully ekiga-3.3.1 with this command:

$ PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig ./configure --disable-eds

But there is an issue with make:

...
...
...

  CXXroster-view-gtk.lo
  CXXcall-history-view-gtk.lo
  CXXpresentity-view.lo

What can I do ? Perhaps disable some feature when configure ?

Since with PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib/pkgconfig ./configure it works, it
means that on your system pkg-config does not look in
/usr/lib/pkgconfig, so it was somewhat wrongly installed.

Thank you for this information. So this is a bug I could report in Mandriva

Sorry, the path I had to specify is /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig while most of

When I call sip:robot@127.0.0.1:5064 I only get this message after some time
at the bottom of main ekiga window: Impossible de se connecter au

To-day I dumped streams on lo interface with wireshark while calling
sipomatic robot.
The main difference I see between Ekiga's calls and Linphone's ones is that,
using Ekiga, rtp streams go from 127.0.0.1 to 127.0.0.1 while, using
successfully Linphone, rtp streams go from 192.168.1.6 to 192.168.1.6.

Perhaps this is the beginning of an indication ?

In this dump, Stun is disabled and Ekiga-3.3.0 isn't registered anywhere:
http://www.cijoint.fr/cjlink.php?file=cj201106/cijo0zGqht.txt

In that one, Stun is enabled (stun.ekiga.net) and Ekiga-3.3.0 is registered
only at ekiga.net:

Do not you do it for the other SIP software?

With Linphone, I hear Simon's voice without (or with) being registered anywhere.
Same thing with Twinkle.

With Ekiga 3.3.0 I can't register this evening to ekiga's registrar (perhaps
because stun is actually disabled) but I can register to Linphone's one.
Then I don't hear Simon's voice. After 20/30 seconds I get the message :

Sipomatic is running on the same computer than softphones.

I found that libedataserver-devel provides libebook-1.2.so but urpmi says
this package (and libnspr-devel) can't be selected because they depend of
packages older that installed ones. What ones is not indicated. :-(

Is it relevant to force installation with --allow-nodeps option ?

libebook is not essential, it is about integration with evolution. Add
